Title: anybody know a good ring modulator thats good for noise and isn't stupid pricy?
Post by: dumphump424 on October 23, 2022, 09:13:50 PM
I've got a decent amount of pedals, but i haven't really considered getting a ring mod yet. Of course I would absolutely love to be able to get5 something like a Ring Stinger but thats obviously out of the question due to its ridiculous price. Anyone know of a good ring modulator for noise purposes perhaps comparable to the Lovetone Ring Stinger? except for a decent price? Sure would appreciate any feedback.

FTelettronica in Italy makes a Ring Stinger clone called Transformer Matrix (https://www.ftelettronica.com/product/transformer-matrix-ring-modulator/). It is not dirt cheap but it is also not insanely expensive like the original.

Wasn't sure what you meant by expensive until I looked up the Ring Stinger... but much cheaper than that you have the Fairfield Circuitry Randy's Revenge, which is the most musical and sonically pleasing ring modulator I've used, and then the Pladask Elektrisk Feber. The Feber has more features but is more metallic sounding and less warmly resonant than the Randy's Revenge. Both served me well when pursuing that ring mod sound.

I have a Heavy Electronics Saturn ring mod which is way more simple but also less expensive. I'm not using it a lot, to be honest, and I thought I had way more use for a ring mod than I actually did. I thought I'd run vocals through it, but as it turned out, I have used it on one track to spice up a synth drone. I'm running vocals through synths instead which I find give way more satisfying results. So basically - you might find that spending a lot of dough on a ring mod isn't really worth it unless you know exactly what you're going to do with it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxRNefXGxjM&ab_channel=MrExcane

I've got a bunch of pedals of ftelettronica.
They are totally worth.
And not so much expensive.
Highly recommend

I'm gradually6 working my way to modular. I've only recently gotten into synths so i got a common beginner synth- the MS-20 mini. But I fully intend on going full eurorack eventually when I'm more financially secure, and also more versed in synthesizers in general.

DOD reissued the Gonkulator which is a weird crusty ring modulator hybrid.
