Title: How to get a specific Harsh Noise sound
Post by: iPerson on September 14, 2021, 07:36:24 PM
So I'm looking for every note I play on my guitar to sound like the screeching highs from "Experience The Magic" (Borbetomagus), this sorta thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BPbaSwbcL8
Note that I also have a Fender Rumble Bass Amp, 2 Contact Mics (that I always max out) built into 1 of my guitars, and I got some microphonic pickups installed into another one of my guitars, which I've been using a lot for noise-oriented stuff, and for pedals I have a: Boss Bass OverDrive ODB3, Boss Compression Sustainer CS3, Boss Digital Delay DD8, Boss Line Selector LS2, Boss MetalZone, Boss Noise Suppressor NS2, Boss Reverb RV6, Boss Super Chorus, Boss Super OverDrive SD-1, Catalinbread Belle Epoch Tape Echo, Danelectro Fab Flange, Danelectro Fab Tone, Danelectro Fish and Chips EQ, Digitech Grunge, DOD BuzzBox, DOD Death Metal FX86B, DOD Envelope Filter FX25B, DOD Gonkulator Reissue, DOD IceBox, Dunlop JH-1B Wah, Electro Harmonix Bad Stone, Electro Harmonix Holy Grail Neo, Electro Harmonix Memory Toy, Gob Instruments High Pass Filter, Orgeldream Twinn Swegan ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPicz_dteh0 ) & an Ultrasonic Ring Modulator ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00jMbMudfKo&t=4s )
So with all that stuff in mind, how do you think I could get that sound with the gear I've got right now? Try and be as specific as possible (Pedal Order, Specific Settings (like 'Level at 9:00'))

Sorry for the longer post, just wanted to get some advice & opinions, hear what people have to say

Maybe you should try experimenting with your gear. Making noise is 90% just fucking around with gear

That's a big ask and you have a lot of gear. Most of the fun for me is experimenting and figuring stuff out myself. I don't know the origin track you are referencing so I'm not much help either way.

Just keep playing, photograph each setup and record everything in case it suddenly clicks.

Try one or two distortion pedals in series with an open wah in the chain. You may want an EQ pedal in there as well.

Also, less is more.

Just use stufff for sound production on Unix system as LMMS-host with all that open-source LADSPA plugins and/or fork of vcv DISTHRO/CARDINAL.

Sounds kind of counterproductive idea, if you got that amount of gear as the OP have in his possession.

Late to the party... That guy uses a distortion and what seems like an expression pedal or wah with a slide.
