Title: Subgenres of Noise Episode 3: Pure/Literal Harsh Noise Wall
Post by: Aether on April 07, 2024, 11:55:29 PM

Giving my top 10 favorite pure HNW albums as recommendations for those interested in the genre.

Harsh noise wall (HNW), in it's most pure absolute state, consists of a singular static noise texture for a given amount of time with no variation whatsoever throughout the entire track. This particular approach is very polarizing within the noise community, as some disregard the genre as being lazy and lacking creativity. I find that the best examples HNW, despite their apparent simplicity and monotony, can be very entrancing and conducive to meditative states. It can also just be good background noise for sleeping or doing chores. While much of this genre can certainly be called redundant and not worth listening to, I hope starting with some of my recommendations here can help people understand the appeal of HNW.
