I've noticed more and more labels moving from facebook to Tumblr lately. Does any of you have Tumblr, and if you do, in which ways do you use it?

I would assume one thing is that there is no such cencorship in tumblr, although they made some strict rules some months ago concerning hatred and underage/violence etc. Also if you ask me, those blogs work better as "archive" or replacement of website than FB profiles.
Not having a label, I just use Tumblr as a kind of picture blog for my own photos and the odd link to articles and videos I like. It seems pretty well disposed to visuals.
To me, Tumblr is just a modern extension of the kind of websites like Angelfire etc. that were around the late nineties, early zeroes. Just a bit more gracious to the eyes and a lot easier to use. But there's all sorts of online resources and I never really understand why one format becomes more popular than another, other than obvious ease of use.
Facebook's virtue is its immediacy - a label can make an announcement that'll reach a lot of people. It seems to have replaced email for a lot of people these days. I don't use it anymore, though - got sick of peoples' cats or what they had for dinner, among other things. Mind, if people started posting photos of their cats as dinner I might have stayed interested.
We use it as a sort of blog for smallish updates, pictures relevant to the label and other associated endeavors. Depending on the theme thats chosen, I think its a pretty good, straightforward alternative to a website and/or facebook.

This is exactly why I'm considering my options. Last thing I want to see is my releases floating around in a stream of rubbish.
Tumblr is a great platform for noise/pe type of music promotion. No strict rules about pornography etc.

I love tumblr!! It's great. My favorite blogs are the ones about brutalist architecture, some noise blogs, one of vintage pics of Pink Floyd, right now my favorite one is "composersdoingnormalshit" and I also like "thedailynylon" for tasteful yet sexy pics.
I hate Facebook.... I just got one for my band and it's so stupid. Everyone can go die.... Etc....

there used to be a decent amount of fucked up type shit on tumblr. 13 y.o. girls posting pictures of their own self-mutilation or whatever. not so much anymore. i think they got stricter with their ethics.
edit: but as far as label promo goes, i think facebook is the preferable alternative. more capacity for the 'business' side of things, where tumblr is catered towards aesthetics/presentation.
Here is an article about a "social network" site I joined today http://www.zdnet.com/article/new-social-network-tsu-signs-one-million-users-in-just-five-weeks/ They aim to give 90 percent of there profits to there users (profits from advertising) It is an interesting idea because it is the user who creates the content. FB doesn't really produce anything if I take and upload a photo onto FB then by agreement they will own it and if someone then goes onto there site to see that photo FB is the one earning money from my content but giving me nothing for it.
