Having used quite a lot of time studying gear forums lately I came to think:
Shouldn't the SI board have it's own Gear Section. The one on Troniks/Chondritic Sound forum is damn good. Easily the best thing about the board, but sometimes the topics get to technical for my understanding and the focus seems to be on another kind of equipment than most people on here would be interested in.
So I propose a Gear Section on the SI Board, were people can Discuss what gear was used on recordings, recommend effects and the likes and ask technical questions, and last but not least, IMO it would make perfect sense also to post Gear Classifieds/Trade/Wants in this section
Hope people is into the idea. It would be great to have our own little PE orientated gear corner. Than wouldn't require a science degree to follow.
I think people should experiment more themselves rather than discuss "how to make noise/pe" in internet forums.
After all Noise is experimental music.
Agreed. But discussing gear doesn't necessarily has to be "How to obtain exact synth sound of GR"
I don't think it's necessary. As you already pointed out, the Gear section at the Troniks/CS forum is already pretty good, so why another one? Plus, there's also another one here: http://www.noiseguide.com/board/
I think keeping the amount of subforums to a minimum is a good thing.
I have a feeling it wouldn't be used much here anyway.
please don't.....it would be a waste of space to see endless pages & pages full of "analog vs digital", "where to find blank cassettes", "what's the perfect synth for deathindustrial" or "does my mac make me less true" etc etc
Plus the fact that I'm enough of a gear fag to be sucked into all sorts of anal discussions about the gear I use, what shit I want and why. I have enough self criticism to know that I would bore the pants of almost everyone in 5 minutes. I'm best out of it.
chronic has a great gear section. who needs to muddle up this board? I go here to talk of Industrial Culture, not if DOD pedals are comparable to Digitech.
Doesn't interest me personally but I see no reason why others shouldn't discuss it. I think the consensus is against, though.
I agree with the gear section being an unneeded idea. Somehow it brings me an image of some tired blues forum where guys can trade their licks.
But on a tangent, we already have a this nice thread here: inspiration & influence of surrounding & conditions in creation of sound (http://www.special-interests.net/forum/index.php?topic=60.0).
Huh, Guess that didn't fly too well. So be it.
I'm considering buying a Korg Poly 800, and to have been able to ask for advice and opinions without drowning in Schematics and Feedbackloop talk as I probably would on the Troniks board would have been nice, same goes for trading/selling/buying gear in a pool of people trying to cash in on there F&V tapes. But as Andrew said, the consensus seems to be against it.

There's a gear section at
I Hate Music (http://ihatemusic.noquam.com). Might help...
My personal opinion would be, that classifieds can be used for selling or buying gear, as much as it's used for selling and buying records.
As for section for gear, I think those before mentioned forums are just a one mouse click ahead. In same way, as much as I could enjoy talking random BS or random music, I won't be inserting "misc" or "misc music" in this board. There are plenty of places to talk and I hope all the boards will have their own identity of some sort. Even after all the confusion recently, I don't think noisefanatics is there to stay and perhaps even grandmaster Greh is about to return? So:
-purely technical gear talk -> Check Noisefanatics gear for plenty of people who know what they're talking about.
-Ideological, spiritual and artistic gear talk = welcomed general sound discussion!
