Title: Finnish PE, and where to start.
Post by: EyeSquared on September 14, 2020, 04:30:43 AM
I am already an admirer of Finnish PE acts such as Grunt, Bizarre Uproar, etc...I was just wondering which other specifics bands/releases any of you would recommend. The nastier the better.

For extra nasty, I'd go for: early SNUFF, Sick Seed, XE.
For heavier, sonically more adventurous, but especially thematically brutal: Contortus.

Sick Seed for sure. If you really want to treat yourself, go for the most recent album Power Play.

Halthan also worth checking out (RIP)

I second this (specifically Victory by XE and III and "Male Supremacy" by Snuff).

I would add Golden Rain, for their wonderful use of minimal synths.

Also, the Degenerating Finland live dvd is a great watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvDf7msK0XQ

SADIO !!!

basically Filth & Violence and Freak Animal are the home for that kind of thing. There are many many gems to find in both catalogues.

I'd also argue that Clinic of Violence is PE even if it's instrumental. It's certainly nasty and always satisfying!

You can't get much nastier then Nicole 12.  If it doesn't make you walk away feeling dirty then you should probably be kept away from children.

Of course, every project that was mentioned before.
And I'd like to add these:

Unclean
Dark Session
A.B.N.T.R.
KSNK and Manic/Depressive
Chloroform Rapist
Pain Nail
Whiteswan
Whitewater Orgasm
Circle of Shit
Kovana
Feuertaufe
Iron Clad
Edge of Decay
Rotat

Not everything from this list is the Finnish PE you are searching for, but still worth mentioning.

Maybe you should also look for the Nyrkki & Kyrpä tapes/CD compilation, which also have a good amount of Finnish PE filth.

Iron Clad

Did Iron Clad do anything besides the tape on F&V?

Dogs of Total Order by STROM.ec is the most essential Finnish power electronics/industrial album

Masterpiece!

Maybe not so 'filthy' PE in the vein of Snuff etc, but Cloama: Revisionist knowledge is also great album. Love the dark atmosphere in that, and there are some sewer dwelling scenarios too.

Again, thank you all for the replies. I'll be checking all this stuff out. Feel free to drop non-Finnish stuff as well. Deathpile and Grunt are my current favorites, so anything in that vein.

Strom.ec, Pain Nail and of course Grunt are great. Some Cloama stuff gets into PE territory as well. You know, the standards.

Once you've understood Power Electronics and are ready to move on to pure noise, you make sure to look up Jaakko Vanhala.

Filth is great and all, but purity is sometimes even better.

Funny enough, I came to PE via harsh noise and black metal. I looking into Jaakko now.

The first volume was kindly included in my recent order from FA. Killer comp, so far the Contortus track is my favorite.

indeed! It´s such a complex and articulated - yet brutal, direct and dark work.
