TERMINAL EVENING #8 | LITTLE BIRDS HAVE FAST HEARTS

A selection of works by the late Peter Brötzmann in collaboration with a variety of international luminaries. Needless to say there's no way a figure of this stature can be squeezed into such a small space as this, but I've attempted to represent as much as possible the breadth and diversity of Brötzmann's work over the years, with a focus on relatively recent recordings, as I do very much believe he was only improving with age. Play at maximum volume, naturally.

TERMINAL EVENING #9 | STRAY APPARITIONS

Which in this case can refer to, among other things, fleeting movements in peripheral vision, memories and thoughts which surface (or resurface) unbidden and unwanted, anything that floats through perceptual space without warning (especially when barely sensed), failures of absence marking out the borders of various uncanny valleys and the aimlessly drifting occupants of any number of supposedly empty spaces... To be listened to in total darkness without distractions.

TERMINAL EVENING #10 | CHAPTER AND VERSE

As has become abundantly clear in recent times, the human being will wander down a vast number of unlikely, if not often incomprehensible, paths in search of some sort of framework to make reality liveable – artefacts of some of these, and refutations and/or critiques of same, can be found herein. No border is recognized here between so-called 'legitimate' and spurious or even fraudulent belief systems – all are symptoms of something else entirely that underlies the entire edifice, and no overt attempt to editorialise has been made. Includes documentary material of diverse origins, real and fake religious and ritual music and sound from around the world, at least one piece of sacred choral music composed by a strict atheist, testimonies from various people as to various alleged facts of existence, and more besides.

Sound and text by Con-Dom, AS11, Fanaticism, Jonathan Briley, Les Archives Sonores Sub Rosa, Crass, Janis Mattox, Akn, Current 93, The Gelugpa Sect, Okkulte Stimmen, - Delta t, Sufi ritual recordings, David Toop, ethnographic recordings from the Amazon, Capricorni Pneumatici, Yahowa 13, Tongues of Light, Shoko Asahara, Elizabeth Clare Prophet, Metgumbnerbone, Zero Kama, Hermann Nitsch/O.M.Theaters, Tibetan Bonpos ritual, Phurpa, Gyuto Monks, Ana-Maria Avram, Augur, György Ligeti, Column One, U.G.Krishnamurti.

TERMINAL EVENING #12 | LIFE DURING WARTIME

You're looking
straight into my eyes so that I may
dispatch teenagers to the army
and shape their future.
Here I am armed on street corners,
inside tanks, on the roofs,
staring into space, omnipresent, constantly working,
dispossessing slumber from its lids,
causing panic, caprice, unintended murder.
Can you address me
with reason, without it all falling apart,
your adages, myths, and creeds?

Updates... as always to be listened to in the dark with minimal distractions (high-quality headphones recommended)...

FREQUENCIES FOR COLLAPSE #14

Suspicious ideas about bodily infiltration and numerology; the embodiment of the unembodiable; complaints about the weather; presences where absences would be more appropriate; the difficulties of coming to grips with recording technology; entreaties to speed things up a bit; sightings of eminent personnages in not-so-distant places; concise statements of intent; affirmative negations; homages to the little and not-so-little known; studies of heritage buildings; negative or at best neutral commentary on solitude; border crossings and re-crossings; observations of various creatures in natural and unnatural habitats; exaggerations of unpleasantness and further at least vaguely related matters.

Similes of social organisation, thoughts on the elusiveness of signifiers, international treaty violations in remote areas, yet more family disputes, literary oddities, mythological osteology, the moments before the disaster, miscellaneous forest and mountain wanderings, memories of nonexistent places, discomforts at high altitude, simultaneous arrivals and departures, and many other phenomena without precise category.

Wordless monologues, trouble with the wiring, possibly misplaced expressions of pride, recommendations for improved health and welfare, unequivocal voicings of diverse frustrations, quotations well out of context, ersatz psychogeographical and epistomological studies, advanced cleaning techniques, obsolete sources of light and heat, indications pointing to absent centres, attempts gone quite badly wrong, jeux de mots terribles and the usual miscellaneous tangibles and intangibles.

Amongst other matters: doubtful dinner suggestions, appropriate and inappropriate descriptive language, theories about motivation, wedding preparation tips, calls to unknown recipients, naive statements of the obvious, the disappointments of the known, thorough internal and external housecleaning, the slow decay at the end of the line, openings into vague spaces, the disappointments of the unknown, questions about change and the absences of the unidentified.

FREQUENCIES FOR COLLAPSE #19

Botany for beginners, ethnomusicology well past its expiry date, obscure namesakes, doubtful renditions of the classics, precise measurements, figures from likely invented mythologies, overused literary references, the side effects of meeting snakes or possibly eels, singing to and with yourself, yet more mismatched metaphors, attempts to go back again (even if you can't), overidentification with this and that, mixed sonorities both above and below ground, dedications to invented personnages and the (probably expected at this point) overseasoned stew of ambiguities.

FREQUENCIES FOR COLLAPSE #20

Useful feedback, attractive colour schemes, sightings at incorrect locations, suspicious miasmas, clear explanations, unhelpful juxtapositions, brief episodes of melancholy, historical and/or hysterical portraits, observations of mundane happenings, sentimental musings and critical comments thereon, the practical use of prohibited cargo, presences both constant and ephemeral, movements taken far out of context, lost objects and/or people, guest appearances by the living and the dead, annoyed interruptions, interminable journeys, unique experiences with optical magnification and much else to irritain your frontal lobes and/or amygdala.
