Title: Strict
Post by: ballerinainblood666 on September 13, 2023, 09:56:34 PM
One of my favorite PE projects of all time.  I own every release of his.  That being said, I know nothing about the guy.  Many New York PE artists have a lot of information out there about them.  Some of them, like Solotroff & Eddie Giles, have become friends of mine over the years.  But I still can find next to nothing about Strict.  Anyone wanna enlighten us?

Not much else to say, except as far as I know, official reissue box under work. No details yet, but hopefully to happen in future.

Thanks Mikko!  I see that there is actually a thread about him already.  I should have looked before cluttering up your forum.  I'll keep an eye out for the reissues.  Feel free to delete this thread if its superfluous.

Anyone have his contact actually? I lost it many years ago.
I have an old DAT ep of his that I need to discuss with him.

I think he lives in Peru now. Not sure though. He has a youtube channel with Peruvian hookers and soundtrack by Ramleh or other PE artists (or other genres) but can't find it right now

That would be awesome! Who would be releasing it?

There seems to be very little information about the project indeed. Kiss is an awesome release, with brutal Jügendian violence wrought with excellent texture work and overall perfect craftsmanship. I don't recall where I read something about the project being from Ecuador, but am not sure. If it is from Peru, then it is probably the first Latin american PE I've ever came across. Wonder if anyone happens to know more from this side of the world.

i thought i had heard somewhere (maybe here) that Keith Brewer thought the man behind Strict was a "sketchy" person... don't know what that means, but makes the project all the more interesting to think about that. don't quote me on this though, i could be mistaken.

phenomenal project by the way.

I think he referred him as "sketchy" in some other occasion. I think it was in context of "not completely safe". That there will be some rough, unexpected, unplanned things happening - or NOT happening.

A friend of mine who used to be Parfrey associated knows him from Chicago, said he very much walks the walk, so to speak. As far as him being "unsafe" I don't know. Knife wielding fentanyl fried schizos in San Francisco are unsafe. Strict is just a guy and I don't think men should spend their time worrying about another man's proclivities.

I've met him several times years ago. Indeed in Peru last I heard, but originally another wacky Ohio boy. He is actually a nice guy with some interesting tales to tell. To put it mildly...

I was in touch with him several times and he's always been very cool, nice and enthustiastic. I lost him after my IG died

He's a true pervert, that's for sure. But if you make music like he did and you're anything but, then you can fuck right off, pal. Hung out with him a couple of times over drinks and tits, and like the greatest of all perverts, he's also a good-spirited, stand-up guy.

One night at a bar in Chicago, I asked him if he was sitting on any unreleased Strict recordings and the answer was yes. And if I remember correctly, it was a fair amount of them (there was also a fair amount of drinking involved on my part, so this last detail is murky). We talked very briefly about doing a release together, but I didn't want to be "that guy" at the table and then I never followed up and figured maybe it was all just drunk talk. That was over a decade ago. It'd be great if some of this stuff popped out into the world someday because we need these "real deal" projects more than anything (especially when the sounds are so fucking good).

Oh, and I wonder if we'll ever find out what Stricter is (or was) all about. There was supposed to be a "live" collab with Puce Mary under that name at a basement in Chicago, but the show got kiboshed by Covid.

An interesting project though I wish he had more material. Finally been blasting through whatever is available out there (Kiss, In Preparation, Taint split) but has quickly jumped into my top 5 for Pervert Electronics. Pure maniacal vocals and grating noise, the way it should be.

Strict seems like an interesting project, but I can't say that I've heard enough material to pass any sort of opinion or judgement, outside of the split with Taint, unfortunately. It would be nice to hear more of this material. A box set or some sort of collective of this material would be nice to see indeed.

I thought I read somewhere that it was planned along with a split (maybe just a collab?) with Slogun. What could've been...

Some stories about this circulates, so lets wait if something will be eventually finalized!

Yeah, there should be a box; it wouldn't even be that big. I lost my emails to him a long time ago and can't get a hold of him anymore. I am sitting on, what I assume to be, an unreleased DAT tape that should probably see the light of day in some form. But obviously would never put out without permission, of course.
