Title: Are there any Richard Ramirez dark ambient albums?
Post by: MkB on December 08, 2023, 06:12:00 PM
Hi

I was wondering if anyone could tell me of any Richard Ramirez/or related albums that are more ambient and less harsh noise?

Something like this? - https://moonmystmusic.bandcamp.com/album/dwellers

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers.

sure
his first release Medusa (1990) is dark ambient
https://richardramirez.bandcamp.com/album/medusa
Remains Left In The Chapel for deathbed tapes is also dark ambient
https://deathbedtapes.bandcamp.com/album/remains-left-in-the-chapel
all Kourei' relesases are dark/drone ambient
https://richardramirez.bandcamp.com/album/thoughtform
Giraffe Detaching A Suitcase is dark ambient project
https://richardramirez.bandcamp.com/album/nurse-declining-in-the-corner
also some of his early solo stuff like Tragic Birth Forming or Trace + Research is what i call "minimal noise" - "normal" noise, but recorded on low volume, which has almost-like-a-HNW textures

I don't really know of any project that Richard has done that could be considered dark ambient, but there is a really cool track from the Magnified Healing album (T.E.F./Prurient/Richard Ramirez) split CD. Richard Ramirez has this cool collaboration with experimental/dark ambient project called Ze'rØ-sum. Track is called Begin The Revelation and Magnified Healing is a great album too, especially if you've never heard it before, it's worth it for the T.E.F. tracks alone.

This collab between Ramirez' Nuits Rouges and Edward Ka-spel of the Legendary Pink Dots might fit?

It fits nicely and sounds very good. Thank you.

Cheers for the tip.

I haven't been able to track it down yet, but this thread has provided me with plenty more to listen to ;)

Because this thread was started with an Autopsy Experiment release and asking for more recommendations in that vein, I thought I would add the new Autopsy Experiment LP that was just released from Deathbed Tapes:

https://deathbedtapes.bandcamp.com/album/televised-death

There are also some older releases still available on Richard's Bandcamp:

Kourei - Suicide Beauty

Came across this one recently and think it's a very strong release. One long 56-minute track. Low-end oscillations paired with ambient metal scrapes. Could listen to stuff like this all day. Gradually becomes more active than just synth or synth-like dark-ambient drifting tones. At some points gets quite aggressive. Some of the other stuff under the Kourei project is a little too minimal for my taste, but this one hits a sweet spot and is a bit more ambient-industrial thanks to the metal sounds.

Highly recommend.

Definitely, this might be some of the most dark ambient type of material to be heard by Richard Ramirez yet, thanks for sharing this one!
