Title: NORWAY
Post by: bogskaggmannen on January 26, 2010, 04:27:52 PM
OK - what's going on in Norway besides the obvious things surrounding Lasse Marhaug and Roggbif?

Would be interesting to hear if there exists some small and/or new projects?

I know pretty much nothing. It is strange, since there has been pretty big other music scenes and surrounding countries are quite active. STEN OVE TOFT, various Origami... I guess they are there "roggbif" surroundings?

Hardly noise or industrial but I quite like some Deathprod. Usually fairly epic and heavy, minimal stuff.

Of course, Golden Serenades is rather connected to Marhaug but I think they don't get the attention they deserve so better take it up, once again.

Wasn't sure which topic to comment, but recently just finished the SONIC NORTH book. It's small, A5, was it perhaps 100 pages or so. Book format edited, with pretty large font. Most interesting being Lasse Marhaug and Fe-Mail interviews. Done live face to face and discoussions feed themselves into pretty nice conversation. This in already from... 2004 or something, so ain't new info there, but always nice to read some insights from Lasse, even if they would circle along kind of "mundane" subjects of noise.
His reference to noise being like pet (a'la cat) is amusing. Just willing to let something into room, while you don't have to fully focus on what they do. But still get certain satisfaction of them being around.

ZWEIZZ might be mentioned, the Yawn Of The New Age was slightly too wanky/spastic for me, but split/collabs with WINTER IN OSAKA and RU-426 (486?) apre pretty nice. He's not too active though, but he does play live.

Seems like Norwegian noise is slightly cleaner, more art show and electronica than pissed on in sewers. Jazzkammer?

as far as my (limited) knowledge goes, i would agree. there's a documentary called "norNoise", which deals with norwegian noise / experimental artists (jazzkammer, fe-mail, tore honoré, o.melby, golden serenades, crazy river, domestic purpose etc.) but also features people such as merzbow, otomo yoshihide, francisco lopez etc. non-norwegians. most of the nor-material was to my tastes perhaps too tame (also the documentary is a bit slow), but jazz and fe-mail deliver as usual.

The last release i put out on my label was some damaged, feedback drenched noisecore from Norway.  They go by the moniker TxQxB.
