Does anyone know what happened to M.I.A.? I just tried going to his Bandcamp (mianoise.bandcamp.com) and it's gone. The page for his label, Neons Publishing, is gone too. Did he get banned or something? He's one of my favorite artists.

I've noticed the Neon's Publishing page has been down too. I can't recall when I first noticed it, but I think it's been down for sometime now. I was checking into the page periodically, but like I was saying before, I can't recall a timeline of when I first noticed the page was down.
His Instagram was still up, last I checked.
I sent an email to the address on the @neonspublishing Instagram and quickly got the following response:
Hey man, merry christmas
Yeah a dork flagged ALL of my bandcamp pages and they got taken down. I will do a Neons and MIA bandcamp page again soon
"Dork" is putting it lightly.

Wow, I'm glad to have snagged those downloads when I had the chance.
Ominous Recordings bandcamp was also taken down. I am guessing that bigger bandcamp gets, this is a trend that keeps growing. Also, when the "dorks" realize it can be done effectively, I guess it will simply increase reports.

I agree with you, but i think also algorithm works with "nasty" artworks, like all social media and once he spotted more than one in the same page, he automatically takes down the account.
Very true, but also so many examples of bands being taken down while there is nothing wrong with content or artwork, but there has been some sort of polemic and people click the report button. Those reports may get merely algorithm / AI reacting on them.
I know IG algorithm seems very quick to rate something "nudity", even if image would have nothing related to nudity or violence. You get the option for manual check and people tends to see what's up, algorithm doesn't.

I wanted to post to this topic to start a conversation around the actual work of M.I.A.
The material I've heard so far from Raph is really impressive and quite diverse under the project name. Just to go through a couple to get started, "Mutants" is really interesting - has whispered lyrics, heavy bass, destructive feedback but each track has a different take on those elements. Beautiful lyrics (featured on the CD) and piano on "Wrinkles". I find the bass tones similar to R.A by B.U, specifically on "Reason For Insanity". Interesting samples as well like on track 2, classic punk sample (happy to find Neons Publishing mixtapes that feature rap/hip hop and classic punk)
The "I Love You" tape features other versions of same bass and feedback, really interesting electronic bass sounds on the track "I Will Kill You". That tape also has a similar ambient-ish track to "Wrinkles", if that's even the right word: "the exapnding void".
Aesthetically speaking, he can have perverse imagery, softer track names or aesthetic but also harsh imagery like on "White Devil", "Scum" or "There's A Market For Everything". But none of it feels out of place, each new noise or PE style feels like it should be there. Maybe that doesn't make much sense, but in conclusion, everything from him has had a confidence and authenticity to it. Every branch of the tree grows leaves.
Not to mention that he's done some splits like the two with B.U as well as the one with Vancouver's Mass Marriage (Heavily recommend mass marriage).
There's a lot of nuance and diversity with M.I.A yet still feels like he's pulling from classics and personal tastes. Not to say, nuance or diversity is everything or the opposite is negative in any capacity but it is always interesting to see someone do it so well! The undercurrent of sadness is in each project, complexity of sex and love is personally what I see and hear when I put on M.I.A. Great stuff!
Picked up a copy of M.I.A. - One Man's Trash Is Another Man's Pleasure tape that was recently released by A.S.K.E. Hoping my order gets mailed soon as I'm stoked to check out that tape!
