Title: +Dog+
Post by: Balor/SS1535 on February 13, 2026, 06:42:26 AM
One of the noise albums that started 2026 off strong for me was +Dog+'s The Family Music Book Vol. 4, which is a fantastic set of piercing synth shrieks and heavy, low end grinding---apparently all recorded live!  I have a stack of other +Dog+ releases that are waiting to be listened to as well...

I realized, however, that there is no thread here for this long-running American noise project?

The lack of discussion and the apparent incompleteness of the Discogs listing (I see that some of the recent albums, at least, have not been added) leave me feeling curious as to what releases are considered favorites, as well as any other stories or thoughts that could be shared.

In my interactions with him, Steve Davis is a very exciting and extremely generous person.  While he is obviously the main driving force in the project, the project also features the likes of Eddie Giles, Bobby Almon (Cut is a fantastic project---especially live!), and others.

Confessions:

1. I never heard of them until now. (That's on me.)

2. I sampled lots of The Light Of Our Lives, and I would absolutely buy a CD of that. (With the bonus track?)

I love how Noise often arises out of guitar theatrics.

Steve is a true gem.  The devotion he puts into giving more under the radar acts a chance to have their music released on physical format is second to none.  +DOG+ itself rips as a project though.  At 70 years old(!!!), he still can deliver the goods in the live arena.  May be hard to keep up with the recorded output, but I think a few titles worth checking out are:

Recycled tape on RRR
The first collaboration he did with Bastard Noise.
The +D:A+ collaborations with Diagram:A.  These ones have especially been some of his best work in recent years.  I remember I got to see them play an absolutely ear-shattering set 5 years ago or so in Western Massachusetts.  Wild stuff.

I had no idea he was so old!  Not that someone of that age can't be doing what he is---not at all---but it does put his dedication in a new perspective.

I have at least one of the +D:A+ CDs around, so I will have to give it a listen soon.
