Title: Pedestrian Deposit
Post by: Matthias on December 30, 2011, 10:24:40 AM
Just returned to Fatale (Hanson/Hospital, 2006) for the first time in years, was heavily into this when it came out and i think it still holds up pretty damn well. For some reason i thought this project disappeared after this release, but after a quick look at Discogs i found an album from 2009, Austere, which existence i have missed completely. Worth picking up?

I recall it was good too. Very vague recollections how they differ from eachother, but I remember both being solid and strong.

I bought "Austere" a few months ago after reading a very good review of it on the Mimaroglu site. I think it´s very good and different from the other stuff i have heard. The music it´s more electro acoustic and musique-concrète than noise, but it has also very harsh moments (and beauty). It had some sounds on the end i think that was very glitchy that i remember i wasn´t so found of but overall it´s an amazing record. Recommended.

He also released the "east fork • north fork" CD from 2010 that i haven´t bought yet. Anyone heard it? Maybe i should order it ASAP so i don´t forget it :-)

This is pretty much a spot on description. I'd highly recommend his earlier album, Volatile. It's just as good as Fatale with that nice mix of harsh intensity and minimalism. Also, probably difficult to find but he did a small split tape with Impregnable that's great. I mean he did lots of tapes, but this one in particular stood out when I first got it.

I had to relisten to the cd after reading this, and couldn't agree more, the description is pretty spot on. Very good album. I haven't heard the "east fork • north fork" cd so can't really comment on that, but for those who enjoyed the Austere disc I can recommend the LP on Hospital "Vestige". Quite similar in style to Austere, but even less noisy and focusing more on the electro-acoustic elements combined with field recordings and short burst of noise once in a while.

One of my favorite projects - but I prefer the releases from before his girlfriend got on board. It was mentioned before - if you like Fatale, you will definitely like Volatile (Truculent/Hospital; 2004). I really like the Vestige LP on Hospital as well - but I don't feel like it is too close to Austere.... Might have to spin them again, though. Plenty of good splits and solo-tapes as well.

A few I like:

Live Lungmotor
Damsel
Split with Oscillating Innards
Splits with The Cherry Point

I had a hard time getting into Austere. Not that I don't like electro-acoustic stuff but it didn't seem to go anywhere. But that was maybe because I was waiting for the "breakdowns".

I did not pick up East Fork/North Fork either...what's the word on that one?

I would still like to see Vemod reissue the 2003 Debilitant/Erase/Stitching trilogy, as was planned. Because they are GREAT tapes.

I was talking with Dan/Sewer Election about that release. Was it out "official" or what happened?

Awesome act. Had the pleasure of opening for them once.

I like them even more these days due to the fact that they participated in the "beating" of Seth of Disthroned Agony. Funniest shit ever.

i lost contact after a while, so the releases were never finished. i do remember the test tapes having a bit of a stereo separation issue, but it's an easy fix and a remaster of the material would be easy and worth it. is he still around?

Caught these two last night in Richmond, va. with One Dark Eye.

Really well thought and engaging stuff. Picked up their new tape titled "the architector" but haven't listened yet. Hoping it is the set they are touring right now.
If you have an opportunity to catch them on this tour, please do.

While I had some difficulties to get into their music since "Austere", that last one sounds absolutely marvelous.
