Post by: murderous_vision on May 13, 2012, 11:11:57 PM
Anxiously awaiting the arrival of mine. Anyone who received it care to discuss their observations?

-glossy 10" size box, nice
-huge poster, ok but not essential lol
-2 buttons. meh.
-thick booklet 10", GREAT, scans of old artwork, flyers, pricelists, tracklisting & notes for cds. very good.
-8 cd's in identical digipacks a bit lame & tracklisting would've been nice. only listened to the first 2 cd's, sound very good to me. clear but not clean...
-10" insert signed by Best. nice detail.

imho one of the better 'archive' boxsets

I have ordered it, just waiting for pack to arrive.
Same time other Harbinger stuff: Death mag 2xLP and JFK 2xLP.

Have this on order too, can't wait - seems totally rad. Was a bit disappointed to learn that all CDs are housed in identical digipacks, which seems to cheapen the product a bit, but I can't complain. Psyched for the sounds and the book. Even still, at, what was it, 43 quid or something shipped, pretty fucking cheap, of course. Didn't hesitate for a second.

How come cheapens? You've seen original release? It's all identical covers. This box merely replicates the original atmosphere, not try to re-vision it. So I would say unusually well done re-issue.

Absolutely true, but since it is in form not a true 're-issue' regardless (what with the additional recordings and material and different box itself) I would've appreciated a small extra - if but the track lists. Don't get me wrong, I understand it's entirely in the sense of the original and - from what I've seen from the pictures - it still looks very classy, but it would have had my personal preference if there had been something to distinguish the digipacks themselves.

It's all mostly live material, right? Different performances, same songs... I have rips of the orig. somewhere but never listened to all of them. Curious about the booklet but depending on price if any US distro gets it. Can't really see myself listening to eight cd's..

Wow that is a nice collection. Do all the versions come with the booklet and inserts that P-K mentioned? If so I will definitely grab it, if it is just the tapes all with the same covers and I already have the ones I like I may skip it.

There needs to be more boxsets like this and the Mauthausen Orchestra - "Gravitational Arch of Sex" box. I would love to see the Broken Flag comps reissued in a boxset, that would be something I wouldn't mind grabbing $$$ out of my savings for.

Yes, I believe all copies come with the booklet, signed print, badges and poster. It's not an easy listen in one go but quite a stunning collection to enjoy at leisure, the remastering is excellent.

Weird to see the rare flyers and catalogues I somehow managed to keep since 1984 and supplied for the booklet about six years ago reprinted. The most unusual thing in the booklet is a kind of love poem to Ramleh by Philip Best.

Actually maybe the most unusual thing in the booklet is this line from a very early flier:
"Broken Flag are also involved in hairdressing"

I'm sure if they'd revived this for the festival there would have been queues waiting for Official Broken Flag Haircuts.

It would be really interesting if the publicity made Debbie Thomas, Bob Strudwick or Jerome Clegg reappear into the public eye, assuming they're not dead, institutionalised or hideously embarrassed by it all.

I bought the boxset at the festival and finally had time to listen to it through. Incredible. I don't always like the 80's industrial/p.e. pioneers that much (never really got into MB's SFAG or Kleistwahr's Arsonicide) but this is pure gold pretty much for the whole duration of the set. Nasty and harsh p.e. The fact that you get some songs 10 times in the set does not bother at all because a lot of it is live and the versions are not too much alike.

Mailman was at the door with it this afternoon but wasn't home unfortunately. He's coming back tomorrow so I'll be waiting by the door. Fucking stoked.
