This is pre-announcement since time is running short...  Real gig ads, 100% confirmed line-ups and such will appear soon. But it looks like after Merzbow gig in Helsinki 18.10.2012, it could be useful to stay tuned for more noise! S.I.C.K. organizes two gigs. Both have normal public access, yet for Bunker gig as usual, preferred is e-mail notification to "venue" for details.

evening @bunkkur was delightful.
all the performances were pretty darn good.
-for a two piece chains were happeing but I wouldnt have minded a bass and sampled pig screams.
-unclean was a pleasent surprise, good sound mix of grittynoise and shouty vox.
-will over matter has become more musick oriented and it works well, crummy looped vox and synthesizer licks created a sort of "hypnotic" sound.
-I havent seen vanhalan jaakkoa live and was expecting that famous metal sound but it was high energy harshnoise, great!
-the adult pe of mk9 was nice enough. did the shoving around of the last gig here warp my memory or was the show a little bit more  aggro at the earlier gig a few years back.

TURKU 19.10 perjantai - uus TVO

Peenemunde started with their "new" approach. Debut CD was basically what you could expect from members at that time. Crashing & smashing large metal objects. But the new approach has moved to something far more interesting. Mixture of cold electronics and physical touch. Electronics are played - not programmed. New studio stuff (unreleased) is brilliant, live stuff was noisier, but getting there!

Unclean 2nd live assault and very nice! Broken sounding brutal harsh electronics with shouted vocals and smashing metal .... Very trad. post-2005 finnish sound, but worked out. More comments later.

Jaakko Vanhala is possibly the best harsh noise performed at this moment. And I don't say that as I happen to known the man, but simply as matter of fact. Utmost control, brilliant execution, both energy of playing - yet not just fooling around. What he does, is done for sake of creating sound, not looking violent or dark. Multi-layered, harsh, crunchy, yet also lots of high-fidelity crystallic electronic slashing.

MK9 - I like this more than previous visit in Finland. Even more conceptual.. art? Or should I say it's rather spoken word manifestation in finest idealism of counter culture. Basically we all know, we have all gone through the phases of angst, but while vast majority eventually sinks to plague of living through sarcasm and irony, "FTW ideology" or simply living perfectly satisfied in contemporary society, MK9 is example of having the urge to still scream against the issues he feels strongly. As trite as anti-USA, anti-War, anti-consumerism etc may appear, I personally salute the man who chooses this route.  Sonically there was like 2 brilliant synth/electronic tracks, multi-layered, atmospheric... ehm.. "PE". Yet most of stuff was basically sound art. Radio transmissions with vocals on top of it and so on.

HELSINKI 20.10 lauantai - Bizarre Bunker

Chains Of Deathcommand. Worked pretty well live! Very nasty guitar sound, drums driven through guitar amps to give them massive distortion/echo treatment. Demented vocals of grotesque subject matter and great cover version of GG Allin on top.

Unclean did very similar set as in Turku, but lack of PA, and doing it via multiple large amplifiers made sound harsher. Great balance of vocals, electronics and metal junk. Basically only complaint would be almost total lack of personality. While I enjoyed both shows, I think he (like some other newcomers as well), would benefit from conscious move from the basic trademarks seen on many other shows. This was very similar to.. lets say Pogrom and Bizarre Uproar gigs seen at very same "venue". With this good vocal performance, maybe seek ways of creating diversity to sound & composition of live set as well as stage presence. But what the hell.. 2 tapes and now 3 live gigs - most bands haven't been this good at such point.

Will Over Matter - was exactly example how you CAN make things differently. Even if you perform in basement, for roughly 40 people, it doesn't mean all you need to do is hide in corners ass-towards-audience or do it like it was just rehearsal. Like Peenemunde day before (with doctor coats and masks), WOM trusted to simple yet effective show. We're merely talking of lighting dozen candles one by one during slowly starting set  and in the end putting them out one by one. With just couple electronic signals and megaphone for vocals & loops, atmosphere was dark and sinister. While you could always say there's hints of M.B. or Club Moral type of projects, it's pretty unusual in its ultra primitive simpleness.

What I said about Jaakko Vanhala show of Friday, I could say same thing here. Now just all amps, no PA. Brutal, high energy, loud, simply brilliant. 11 minutes and that's it, ended in utmost climax.

MK9 show could be said same. Lack of PA was actually advantage. It gave little extra saturation to sound, and that little clipping crackles heard in Turku was no longer there. Basically same set, but some spontaneous elements added extra lines. "You just proved my point! Control yourself!" HAHA! Brilliant.

I suspect some good live pics can be posted later on by people with cameras..

And thanks to all the people involved. Finances of Turku went little fucked up due one surprise, yet small financial hit will be absorbed.

praises to dr.unclean who played more "huge wok filled with burning elektronix" approach than just dirty rumble as heard on tapes. praises to WOM for creating extremely sinister atmosphere with his slowly growing hypnoritual. praises to MK9 for comin out of his personal hell (2010) into total fukin punk hate politix.

bowin to audiences - thanx for showin up and not makin a mess, yeah

but hard to grasp where was "everybody" in turku?? ive seen shows with 100+ people crammed into tiny places at noise/industrial/"goth" happenings...  make no mistake, i have no delusion about sold out evenings. i dont crave any breakthrough/crossover to bigger crowds except for better financial possibilities. just that i hoped to be able to come up with at least a little bit of travel+food expenses for travellin mulberries, who undeservingly paid to play, and played damn well too!!

right now i feel like the next time there would be SICK action lets make it only in helsinki?!?! or we need to find a good "secret" / hidden / alternative space combined with harder door prices for turku?!?!

a guy said to me hardly any people came to see his fairly succesful punk band in turku.why is that, I thought there is a big alternative music scene there?

Huge thanks to all people who made these gigs happen, for hospitality, good times and Penttis asylum. All went smoothly and well.

It was a pleasure to see Vanhala blast his masterful harsh noise, two times in a row.
Peenemünde set was interesting to watch, full of inspiring sounds and turns.
Will Over Matter put out most mysterious performance, liked it very much.
Chains scum fuck rock was a great starter for Helsinki evening, gotta love the caveman drumming style!
MK9 was brilliant on both evenings, totally a set of no fun, no entertainment. A man of dedication!

Would have liked to come to the TVO show, but own gigs on Thursday/Saturday (incl. 20 hours of sitting in a car within 30 hours) and lack of sleep forced the decision of not coming to TVO.

The gig situation in Turku is pretty problematic at the moment, the punks won't come to see more unknown bands, the metal guys probably rather sit in some bar listening to Manowar from the jukebox and the people usually coming to the CMI/related gigs most likely aren't that interested in filthy noise/PE. The ridiculous rents of venues don't really help the situation either. I really hope the new "official" TVO will change things for the better.

couldn't make it to HKI show due to obligations up north, but since TKU is pretty much my second hometown at the moment didn't hesitate attending the show there. i'm horrific at reviewing noise but still am compelled to say a few words.

PEENEMÜNDE - felt like these gents just walked up to their lab and did whatever they needed to do. no showing off, no building of drama, no harsh banging (or very little of it at least), no-climax... and none was needed. i just sat back and the rumbles swallowed me.
UNCLEAN - as was said before, unclean is not something unique or surprising, just vicious f&v-style pe/noise. it's just done so well that i give zero fucks about lack of originality. very loud & aggressive. this being such a new project and concidering how good he already is i'm sure we'll hear more layers / new ideas to his stuff in the future.
VANHALA - just plain harsh noise brilliance!
MK9 - minimalistic backround noises over which vocals are shouted with uneasy kind of aggression. favorite was the track which "musically" consisted only of looped 911-calls (?). saw him live a couple of years ago and while i thought it was a nice show, i kind of "got it" better this time.

-

i too was quite surprised to see the total lack of an audience in TKU, mitä vittua?? when was the last suomi-noise spectacle in town, it's been a few years already (last one i remember was SS, WERTHAM, SHIFT etc. at old TVO i think 08 or 09, or then it's my youthful dementia kicking in)?? one would think the local "alternative" crowd would run to the show with their cocks throbbing.

anyways, huge thanks to all involved!! lisää paskaa housuun!

Not sure if there's such a thing as "Turku alternative crowd" these days?

no use in whining anymore. lets look at the good: no mishaps, xlent moods, xlent performances. those who didnt come missed one powerful evening and a distro table to drool like a moron.

bout metalheds in karaokebars: maybe i'm wrong but i kinda thought that the metal folks overlap w noise happenings because of axpa's longline groundwork. obviously not. metal nowadays seems to mean some comedy nwofhm stuff anyway. good riddance in that sense.

tku alt crowd: tons of people but all in their little circles... old tvo brought so many layers together automatically. one has to keep in mind that there were plenty of happenings at old tvo where there was only a handful of people even though there was cool performers, local and foreign. fact of life = combination of so many things, people move away, people change, new youngsters have no clue, etc etc and obviously there are "scene hits" and tons of bullshit relyin on "package" (see pavlova klubi, instant 80-100 art nerds + wierdos no matter who performs, actually i dont think it even matters to some of them, but still they show up and that means a good door money which makes it easier to operate at all levels)

this here "now new" tvo = greatest venue ever? perfect location, great room, kitchen, potentially a bar... too bad its getting shut down. ultra tough monthly rent (1500e) , bad pipes, bad power wiring (stage sound came from pinball room, lights from upstairs, actually the "arena" has no power whatsoever) and ever tougher booze laws wont even allow them to have licenses even if they'd meet the fire+ hygiene standards (the booze license at old tvo was signed in the late 60's... and we all know these spaces + hygienes are just fine... "the man" just likes to make it fuckin difficult to have it, as in "build more toilets, these 3 arent good enough yet"... in the end only s-ryhmä will be able to afford venues/clubs, sounds like they're tryin to push it that way) all of this is ultra frustrating coming from the "culture capital"... wod a fukin nitemare!!

vittu tää on tyhmää keskustella paikallisjuoruja ulkomaankielellä
