im already familiar with most of the household names like von thronstahl, der blutharsch, karjalan sissit, etc.
where do you think the term or genre originated? any i might be interested in besides those aformentioned names?
I'd probably say Test Dept is a likely original source.

As for something new in the genre, the most recent album I've heard is Legionarii - Europa Rex

see, ive always thought Laibach started that but i could be wrong.
I'd put my bet on Laibach.

I think Apoptose - Prozession der Augen might be my favorite martial track. I appreciate the literalness of it. I'm sure someone uploaded it to youtube.
ROMAN HA (probably my fave of all time)
WIR SIND WIEDER DA!
BOLSHEVIKI
I just discovered Derniere Volante, I really like his early stuff, the later stuff leans towards military pop which I'm not too fond of. Finding martial groups that blend with military noise and dark ambient are harder to come by, is there any blogs that specialize in the noisier end of martial music? Kinda broke after holiday shopping and would like to hear some of these groups/artists.
i didn't exhaust the list. while i like using youtube, i like having the music at my own disposal before i make any purchases. please don't turn my thread into a lecture about the evils of music piracy.
i never said anyone is lecturing, i just said not to turn it into a lecture. thanks for the list, though. i wasnt trying to provoke you.
Organisation Toth. more stuff like this would be appreciated. martial industrial meets ritual ambient.
I liked name and I liked presentation, but somehow that project always remained somehow distant to me. What I recall was not that much of "material industrial" as it was just repeating short loops going on and on and on and on...

Agreed, with TEST DEPT close behind.
Laibach's "Baptism" may never be outdone.
For those interested in this kind ov music may I submit (the second movement ov) my own STRING OKTET IN A for eight subkontrabass viols, battery and voice. I am not certain it satisfies the criterion for the idiom ov 'martial pop', perhaps commentors could voice their opinion on this.

Militia Dei i just listened to, although somewhat lacking in dynamics, is exactly what im looking for, that mix of ambience and military stompage. and ive liked all ive heard from Organisation Toth.
Lately I've been listening to Legionarii, escpecially the album Iron Legion which is great. Dark, brooding, Triarii/Arditi-like martial industrial.
For more uplifting, epic and "soundtrackish" I'd recommend Heroica by Winglord.
whats some stuff similar to Blood Axis? is Blot Sacrifice In Sweden an actual live album or is that just speculation?
It is certainly a live album from a performance they played at avCMI festival, although I understand it also had a post performance studio treatment, so does not sound as a typical live album.
Terrible album. Only two songs on it worth hearing and one of them is a cover. The post production makes it sound like a studio album but it sounds like the performance was quite bloodless to begin with.

I was there, and it's from when they performed in Linköping, Sweden, at the 10th anniversary party of Cold Meat Industry, with Ordo Equilibrio opening up. It was kept secret beforehand who was going to play, and there were rumours that Roger had invited Genocide Organ, but the "mystery band" turned out to be Blood Axis instead. Even though it was a memorable evening in many respects, I recall the performance being a bit of a let down. BA were much better in Stockholm the year after.

I JUST WROTE a fucking INDUSTRIAL STRING OKTET, possibly the LOWEST EVER and you are all gonna ignore that.
so Barbarossa Umtrunk, Across The Rubicon and Kriegsfall-U have been in constant rotation. whats some other martial thats heavy on the ambience and pounding metal percussion?
I assume that's the Barbarossa on OEC? What's it like? I got one of their CDrs on Skullline, and it was OK, but nothing too exciting.
Also got from Skullline a Striider CDr called 'Heimweh', and although I got it a while ago, I've only just been playing it - y'know, one of them things wrapped in a (Dutch) flag, bound w/ a banderole, etc. that seemed a bit of hassle to undo carefully!
Well, anyway, it's certainly heavy on the ambience - great, poisonous clouds of it - with lots of samples of 'war' sounds (shooting, shouting, etc.), muffled drumming, distant thuds, old speeches, and in one place, a flute band, if I remember rightly. Very cinematic, with the drones, in most cases, a fog enveloping the 'action'. One track is an ultra deep bass drone that really rips through the speakers - though this could actually be due to the shitty CDr quality...
Actually, that's my only complaint w/ this - the shitty CDr. Skullline releases a lot of stuff, some it very tasty. However, maybe a bit more quality control, including CDs?
Oh well, you can't have everything. Probably not as good as the Kreigsfall-U one you mention, but it surpassed expectations (based on the 'Bunkermusic' one on Steinklang).

not sure if this belongs here (diemilitarmusik states it does), I've been on a huge Vladmir Hirsch kick lately. industrial-influenced classical? vice versa? you decide. great stuff, esp. his organ works and industrial experiments.
Oh yes Vladimir is great. Check also his collaborative projects Aghiatrias, Tiria or Skrol...
LIYR ... their 2nd album is fantastic!
