I'm interested in making a list of Japanese "industrial" groups, both operating now and earlier - if contributing with something, keep it in the "low distortion" (for example I wouldn't really put Gaze Campaign in here) areas. Yeah, I know about S*Core and Contagious Orgasm (which I both admire thoroughly) but are there any others except White Hospital, Grim and (vaguely) Vasilisk?
Dissecting Table.
Ah, yes, how could I forget Dissecting Table!?

There are something what I keep thinking.. that SEKOND KOMMUNIKATION (see other topic) is almost there.
EREHWON is something quite new. I got 2-3 CDR's and one saw them live in Tokyo. I wrote earlier: Performed one of the most impressive rhythm metal junk live shows I've seen lately, and unfortunate has only back catalogue of low print run CDR's, but would deserve full length anytime. For those who want to hear missing link between industrial a'la SPK, Militia etc. meeting K2 and other junk abusers. Rhythmic, and not "harsh", but hardly song structured or militant. One could also easily compare it to early days of Alchemy of the 20th Century, even if I say it myself.
I'm sure Zeno can say something more solid on Sadistic Lingam Cult -- myself, I only have their Winds of God LP on Membrum Debile + the Triumph of the Will tape on Recalcitrant Noise. As it has been quite some time since I listened to the tape, I can't comment on that one, but the LP is a real gem. Fuzzed out, but very far from "typical" Japanese noise around the same time (1997). I think this would be something for you to investigate, Love.
This started as spin-off of grindcore band, right? I have some old tapes of him, not bad at all. I don't know if it's the industrial in type of this topic is looking for, but good nevertheless.
If whatever "industrialish", not full on noise is ok, then why not old Government Alpha? Not the harsh noise days, but the tracks he was banging metal and screaming? Like contribution on Extreme Music from Japan, and something quite close on 1st disc of the anthology 4xCD box.

I can't give much information about either
Sadistic Lingam Cult or
Catasexual Urge Motivation. Their English was very limited, though they were quite active with mailer flyers, trading, etc. Much of the
Winds of Genocide LP is the same tracks as found on the
Triumph of the Will C-60. In a rather confusing letter from around that time, they did lead me to believe some of the tracks of the same title were different mixes. I asked for clarification, but I remember that letter being every bit as confusing. Admittedly, I never went track to track to closely compare. I also received the impression that
Triumph of the Will was the first work with which they were finally happy with the result. The
Cult of Religion C-40 album was already treading that same ground; at least in my opinion it was. A year or more before these three releases, they began the
Sadistic Lingam Cult project rather crudely, in a more ritualistic, occultish type manner. It wouldn't be unreasonable to label those works as
industrial and further removed from
noise. There was some noisecore in their element as well. I believe they even worked with the great Y Records around that time.
To add to this thread, it might be of interest to hear the
Catch-Wave (1975) and the
Toshi Ichiyanagi, Michael Ranta, Takehisa Kosugi - Improvisation Sep. 1975 albums. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the great Merzbow album
AntiMonument. There are others from that early period, but that one remains a favorite.
H8 No.3 "fragil" CDR
Another Japanese bands which is not exactly noise, more perhaps industrial, but neither that. I got this CDR as promo long ago, but for reason or another it was long buried in pile of discs. Guy says he was introduced to Freak Animal by Noiseuse/ Teito. 3 songs which use played bass/guitar, electronics, vocals, effects to create material. Sometimes you could say that playing is very musical. It's actual riffs, perhaps even "metallic" riffs, but they work more as rhythmic element than anything melodic. You could perhaps make reference to sunn o))), but that's very inaccurate afterall. This is not bass heavy doom worhip. Pace is faster, vocals are more old school industrial. Just talking strongly through extensive echo. No screams, growls etc. Some droning sounds, electronic effects, especially beginning and end of the disc gets enjoyable. Between there is some so-so riffing, which seems slighly aimless. I would guess band would be good addition to some compilation where their song could easily stand out in different approach. For full length own release, probably needs to work on it more.
Listen to their last track of this disc, "Tonight", on myspace:

probably mentioned many times elsewhere, but LINEKRAFT. "The Man Who Was Plugged In" CDR from 2008 was something that I got from artists when I saw him play in Japan. I don't know how well, if at all, it was distributed in west. Was it this guy who organized some Steinklang bands to Japan? I think so. CDR is full length album, mostly based on idea of heavy "hammer" he used to bound smashing and crushing noises out of metal junk. Most of the songs of recording are ok, but they are pretty hectic hammering with extensive distortion, reaching more typical realms of Japanese noise. At the best band is in less aggressive works like "electro shkval", massive 8 minute track completed with deep bounding rhythmic hammer, spoken word, samples, dark haunting voices... very close to more european apporach to old school industrial. The more he applies the distortion pedals, closer to jap noise it transforms. Songs such as the 6th = final track seems again like it would be perhaps live recording, where slow crashes of junk metal and fierce feedback most definitely has industrial atmosphere. I would rate the last parts of the CD the best. Some buried, but frantic vocals, fastly varied feedback, colossal metal junk. If you would make a 10" of two last tracks, it would kill. Most definitely something new from Japan people should keep eye on.
Yes, as you mentioned the guy behind Linekraft organized Steinklang live in Japan with
Rasthof Dachau and others. Also Sektion B live in Japan few years ago.
Got advised by Japanese friend to check this.

Check also their pretty massive live performances.
Two members from Erehwon, which I mentioned before. Some moments of Neck Of Chaos reminds quite a lot to Erehwon type of loops & clear metal junk percussions. The "racks" they have for metal sheets seems to be same as in Erehwon gigs?
Only one live release out in 2009, but I guess there should be interest for material like this... Not sure if the ritualistic aspect is not enough "horror tuned" for those who seek for western type of pop culture ritual music...

Sadistic Lingam Cult.
I did quite a bit of mail writing with the guy behind this project, and the grindcore group Catasexual Urge Motivation, when he just started out, must be 15 years ago now... a really nice and generous guy, with some dare i say typical japanese/noise obsessions... i even did a lenghty interview for my punk/hc fanzine, but unfortunally it never got published. Got the first couple of tapes, maybe even a 7" (or was that by C.U.M.?), and remember thinking it was much better than expected coming from a grindcore-man. As mentioned it had a ritualistic/industrial (controlled?) feel to the noise, right from the start. Anyway, lost touch and have also lost all tapes from him...
How about NORD? was years since i last listened to their stuff, but remember it to be quite good.
C.U.M. later changed their name to Vampiric Motives (quite awful name!) and went on a more death metal-oriented sound, if I remember properly.
Anyway, C.U.M.´s "Encyclopedia of Serial Murders" is awesome, one of the few "gore" records I still listen and enjoy.
I believe Onatronix would fit what you are asking for here. Individual from Lust Vessel sold me 2 tapes from the project but at least 5 different tapes exist. Project was described as in the vein of S.Core, Contagious Orgasm, Self Terror, etc. which is quite accurate. Both tapes I picked up were self released by the artist in the early 90s? Would love to find some more information about the project.
listening to the MP3s for Dissecting Table's Chaos Attractor album (yes, MP3s because I wouldn't know where to start with anything post-Release days, and I wouldn't just throw money at a random album from him at this point). Average, if not slightly above average, typical Japanese noise. I miss his industrial sounds. There is a point of this 43-minute track where it sounds like he is either manipulating a metal/death metal track, or he is creating a metal track. It's interesting for about a minute. It goes on for far too long. The tapping of the dome of the ride cymbal is effective. Some decent psychedelic, upper-frequency sounds thrown around the mix as well.
Maybe Screloma?:

I've had just "Dirt" for several years, but it's been a while since I've last played it. I don't recall the material being groundbreaking in any way, but just satisfying enough to have kept the disc.
Linekraft was mentioned earlier but I'm surprised no one mentioned MOTHRA, the band from which Linekraft came. I played with them in Japan and they put on a great show. Industrial in the Missing Foundation/Einsturzende Neubauten and perhaps Swans vein.

Linekraft new CD on Malignant Records (or Black Plagve) is very nice. Keeps improving and taking shape. Combining harsh noise elements with heavy duty metal junk hammering, speaches, music fragments etc. Not really industrial in style of steady percussion or clear "songs", but atmosphere of vandals in factory hall making mess.
Has anyone heard Vasilisk comeback album on Steinklang?? Curious about it.

Very curious here too! As mentioned in my "harsher side of Dissecting Table" thread, the Vasilisk on their split with DT is top notch. The clear winner of the split. Last thing I'd heard from Vasilisk was I believe their contribution to the Banned (noise!) compilation, Ne Shi. I remember laughing out loud when I saw Vasilisk featured in that line-up... like how fucking long were they to be lumped in with "Japanese Noise"? But the Vasilisk featured on that Banned comp was memorably very good. A kind of harsh ritual droning sound, quite dense, yet sedate. One of the better tracks I recall. Will need to dig it out again soon.
And the new Vasilisk on the split with DT (also on Steinklang) is also quite the powerful affair, particularly the first track which again takes the dense, metallic, droning elements and sets them against some tibetan ritual music to excellent effect.
Funny, but on a side note. I was actually inspired to give the newer Dissecting Table a shot after Mr Linekraft told me to my face, a few years back, after an excellent live set, that DT were a massive inspiration. I remember expressing a degree of incredulity at that pronouncement, but then attempting fairness in making a note to self to give the shit another chance. "If this guy digs them..."
I like dissecting table but could use something with shorter songs. Any recommendations?
GRIM spend a lot of time on my turntable this week..
I really wish someone would re-issue White Hospital's LP, I'd snatch that up immediately. Lust Vessel seem to be the best place recently for getting tapes of this ilk, some great releases from them.
Surprising how much the material of Grim / White hospital grows on me....
Maybe early works of Agencement would be of interest to Bogskaggmannen....
What are people's thoughts on the GRIM Orgasm lp?
Love the 7" I have from the 80s.
However, there are always doubts about new material when someone reappears after decades of absence.
Album is a small pressing but seems well distributed & their old works were unique enough that I'm definitely interested.
I am digging the Grim "Orgasm" LP very much, could be wrong but I believe it's a rerelease of mid 80's CS material.
