I am just interested in what are the currently active web forums our there dealing with noise/ power electronics/ death industrial/ dark ambient?
Obviously this Special Interests Forum appears to be the most active with regular debate and discussion.
By comparison Maniacs Only and Pure Stench seem to be less active overall and more of a place to post release info etc.
Also there is obviously a lot of specific Facebook based groups for this sort of thing.
But what else is out there? Am I missing any important ones?
Interesting I came across the www.electroracle.com site recently which seems to be an information portal type site. Rather strangely I found someone has been re-publishing a number of my reviews from the noise receptor blog which I guess I don't really mind. BUT whoever they are have then taken it upon themselves to include a rating out our 10 for each, which is something I loathe and never do myself.

Noise Guide is fucking terrible, always has been. Don't waste your time.
Noiseguide had its moments, but it's been a looong time since I've even looked. Maniacsonly pretty much ditto.
Forums are over.
although more tecchie oriented I really like muffwiggler forum.

Forums are over.
Most at least! I would guess that function they served for many people, is filled by other media now.
Personally I can't see for example FB and such to replace forums. It's utterly rare to see any discussion going there. At least what I'd see. Something what goes beyond mere flood of spam. I don't follow any other forums than SI anymore. Couple forums I may visit once in a while to see that not much happens.
One can't complain about this development. Anyone who cries that nothing happens anymore, might have to look into mirror.
Facebook options are useless. A good attempt was made by Hal McGee, who is a veteran of the international home taping movement, but I haven't kept up with fucking Facebook in a year or so anyway. Every page I'd seen apart from McGee's was just post after post of "check out my latest excretion!". Fuck right off.
If there was another forum as good as this one we'd all be on it and personally I can't see the point. Comparatively, the Noise/PE/Industrial/etc. movement is still small, and why not? Maybe somewhere some other scenes are having a good time online, best of luck to them. I like it here.

Because people don't like talking about music or art... I suppose. Every topic (in our genres of music) was discussed many times... nothing new in music besides of new releases....
FB is total, fucking shit. I consider to close my personal profile there.
It`s been always little mysterious/funny thing that there is millions of people with internet connection, some somalian pirates have wlan in their ships but even some better known heavy boards have those same 30 or so active writers.
maybe they are on some Rap forums, those pirates..can`t say.
I imagine there's a whole bunch of teenage gamergaters taking PE at face value over at /mu/ but there and on reddit people mostly discuss genres internet people actually care about. Noise people in this day and age, if they even still actually like noise at all, have just sour-grapes/bridge-burned themselves out of any inclination towards open community and discussion, people still care about and discuss it a lot but I think privately/pseudo-privately online or irl more than in designated online spaces.
I only visit here regularly and occasionally lurk the Gear section on Maniacs Only. I can't bare to spend too long in any other section on there. Currently, SI is enough forum for me.

I pretty much figured the SI forum was the central hub, but as I don't go out of my way to search for 'new things' on the net, didn't know if something else of interest had passed me by. Thanks for people's comments.
SI is on the top of my list for all Noise related information and enjoyments. no bullshit here thankfully. yes, FB is as boring and pointless as reading a tabloid rag with everyone screaming the loudest to be heard with no real opinion. I don't get it at all.
It has been significantly quieter here for a while though. Usually when FreakAnimalFinland is elsewhere/busy, the activity goes down, haha... But luckily there are good archives of discussions, which one can re-read and find "new" things there. Truly a shame that Noisefanatics was not documented, the past discussions archives had some really valuable threads.
SI is also my goto forum these days. Other than that, the occasional browse on stench, maniacs or the NWN forum to check if something is happening.
FB groups can fuck off. I use FB for 99% as a source of info concerning concerts & label/artist/distro updates. And there are some people there which occasionally post interesting musical things.
Signing off on what others wrote-this has been the main source of information for me the last years. Quite impressive amount of information on other topics than pure music related in the culture/general too, i have discovered a lot of things. I really like the "no bullshit" mentality here, most other forums seems to be flooded with "fun" section flowing into all channels after a while.
I repeat. stench is good!

Yes, a fucking misc section that is full of terrible gifs and stupid images and stupid people, I am very glad that is not on this forum. I mainly read this forum, I look at Stench for info of releases for certain labels, can't think of any others I look at.
Don't forget the stupid section full of interesting people and smart images
the other forum is garbage
NWN is great for metal
Stench is good, but slow
Maniacs Only is the fucking worst.... Just endless stupid bullshit and ridiculous tantrums.....
I only use this really, facebook is terrible music wise and is a constant stream of bedroom noise spam.
I used to use NWN to anger the legions of stamp collecting halfwits but got banned for having a sense of humour.
My only real memory of NWN is the 50+ page thread of people arguing which mutiilation vinyl re-issue is legimate. Left after that.
I was recently told Doomed Forever forum is closing soon. Never been there, but was told it used to be huge. I don't think any forums value should be judged by merely "activity". Most of forums that have most activity, appear to have top threads like "post pic of yourself" or such. All the casual talk with little if any relation to subject matter. I would guess that there is mostly gap between those who think internet is serious business, and those who don't, hah. If latter one dominate, first mentioned will leave.
That said, I'd rather see next someone start or participate in recommended Sounds of Pig tapes -topic, than "this mornings coffee mug and..." style topic.
I personally do not think we'd be running out of topics. Bands, labels.. new and old. Huge amount of things what go totally under radar for vast amount of people and if someone would even merely mention them, we could perhaps see how "underground network" works. People recommending interesting stuff to others. Not only merchants and consumers.

I remember lurking there before finding here but gave up being there when i started seeing a few posts pretty much saying that anyone who likes noise or drone are faking it. Also metal sites are usually worst for discussing about noise or experimental music since it usually decays into idiots arguing wither its music or not.
Forever Doomed was born of the ashes of the Goat Shed forum of the Southern Lord website. Once upon a time I spent a silly amount of time on there, the discussion was good and varied and the tolerance of noise - whilst select - was ok. I gradually lost more and more interest as some "personalities" seemed to dominate and the broad church it once offered felt like it was narrowing. I re-visit occasionally but a lot of the content doesn't seem to change from one visit to the next - I dare say there is still some depth of discussion but I have neither the time nor inclination to look for it and noise/P.E. seems to be very much an outsider topic there now.
i don't post here often, mainly just lurk and read... about once every week or two.
maniacsonly, pretty much gear and diy only,
harshnoisewall to see if anything new happened (which it didn't)

this is truth though. i average at least 1 hit a week on my bandcamp from a link about 2-3 years old...
it's clear the level of discussion stands the test of time.

sadly that is digital civilization.
""Anyone who cries that nothing happens anymore, might have to look into mirror."" cannot agree with this enough!!!
for the hermits and agoraphobics the boards are very helpful. thank you
SI is the BEST
first stop I do all day
