Title: "Sexy" PE/industrial/noise/etc.
Post by: Peterson on July 04, 2015, 07:19:10 AM
Referring more to a description of sounds than content, but I suppose less over-the-top/ultra-extreme is somewhat uncommon (?!) within these genres, so other examples are welcome, too. So while there's some of the more violent expressions of lust and instinct accompanied by appropriately violent sound (and I'm sure everyone will immediately think of 5-10 examples, so I won't be a super-cool name-dropper and list any), but I can only think of a few fairly dark/disturbing (depending on how you look at it) releases that could also be considered sensual, relaxing, organic, or sexy, and I'm wanting more.  I'm kidding, but not really.

Probably the only thing that I could put into that category would be Bordel Militare (http://www.bordelmilitaire.com/menu.html), and that's because it's a mix of Noise and lounge (although last I saw them live there was a fair bit of PE coming up at the end of the set). Also Military Position's The Personal Is Political (https://soundcloud.com/trapdoortapes/military-position-the-personal-is-political) has some Donna Summer like heavy breathing that fits with the Death Industrial sounds, eerily.

One does think immediately of "Music For Bondage Performance". Merzbow wasn't the only Noiser into bondage either - I recall a Black Leather Jesus track which was recorded for a bondage gig which sounded very interesting as it sounded like someone trying to breath in tight restriciton.

There's also that video posted here recently, the live gig with Prurient and Macronympha (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvdDEiOYq3Q), that involves a bit of touchy-feely.

If it is more about just the sound, I suppose I can envision a couple dimming the lights and getting close on the couch to the smooth grooves of Aube, or licking melted chocolate off each other while Astro's more ambient waves weave in the background.

the first fascination I had with PE was for both the sexual and the criminal undertones of whitehouse and s. jugend.

pe in sex for me is waved by the banners of anything IOPS has released. then ultra, dominator, sodality, the rita, intrinsic action.

There's lots of sex-based stuff out there, but when I think of PE/noise that is actually arousing...

Climax Denial
Minotaur (begging for another release!)
Private Archive
The Rita (bodies, movements, voices)
Anal Hearse
Marco Corbelli
Sodality
Taeter

Honestly though, this stuff is just arousing for me. If I'm actually trying to try to make something happen, I'd go with Sleep Chamber or Clock DVA, or more often than anything else, dirty American R&B.

I reckon I'm pedestrian here.  I found Merzbow, and fellow Japanese noisers, using shibari in the visuals to be the most interesting of the sexual elements when I was first getting into experimental music.  The lyrics, D/s, S/M, and other whatnot weren't anywhere as intriguing.  It's kind strange how widespread that has become.  It seems like every nude model is into rope play to some degree.  Every young person into yoga is also exploring rope on some level.  Every time I turn around, I see it.  I'm sure Fetlife has a lot to do with it.

I wouldn't put on any noise or industrial, hehe... But wouldn't quite a few of the Posh Isolation releases fit this purpose? I mean they almost seem designed for this purpose. ;)

Master/Slave Relationship. Not all, but for example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-Q8kcNv0hE
And most of all "This Lubricious Love" title track, which is more calm piece.

Description of opening message reminds of old WB comment, that he finds it odd how much there is sexual violence & sexual dominance, anal ripping rape fantasies in extreme electronics, but how little of energic juicy sex. How little people use word cunt, for example.
Perhaps one could conclude it to be true. How much there is tracks about pure juicy sex?

That's funny, cause when I was a kid I was actually a bit embarrassed about some of the vocals on Great White Death- because the vocalist sounded to me as though he were a bit uncomfortable with his own use of pretty run-of-the-mill cusswords. "We've Got The Power" seemed a contender in this regard. I chalked it up to good old fashioned repressed Englishness. By contrast, listening in those very same years to 2 Live Crew's "S&M" - now here, here were folks who clearly relished the shit coming out of their mouths...

...even if Marquis De Brother couldn't pronounce "masochistic", heh.

More seriously now (well, maybe), any sounds with a certain fluidity- flowing, gushing, surging, spurting, squirting, dripping... pulsing gobs of hot sound spasming and contracting in shuddering waves, slamming wetly into the earhole, etc etc.

Taken too literally and we might have WB splashing around in a bathtub over cute pink noises, though the effect may be ruined slightly when a voice starts yelling "You wankers!"

Oddly enough, never found Aube terribly sexy...

Biggest single moment ruiner: The Residents "Aircraft Damage"

(In my case preceded immediately by a track from Coil's Time Machines. Got us at rather a ripe moment too, still cracks me up to remember it. Random Play: the bane of all mood music.)

Is silence still sexy?

Silence as in "bite the pillow"? Sure. More seriously, strictly speaking, silence is just one kind of controlled ambient environment. As I kind of iterated in my previous submission, the general idea seems be the establishment of a certain more or less uniform atmosphere. "Silence" would certainly qualify here. (Though I don't think I speak only for myself when I submit that I do enjoy all the cute little noises, pink and otherwise.)

Although not intentional at all - I find Michael Idehall's work to be incredibly erotic. Very Arafna-esque, but with added emphasis on the orgasmic modular electronics.

Ha, I think a lot of power electronics is inherently sexy actually. Just as much as, say, hip-hop or R n' B are when you're listening to the right stuff. Really, I'd boil it down to the right context where power electronics is being played in a situation that can be erotic or whatever. Stuff like Puce Mary is intensely sexual, if you ask me; as is, like, the fucking Rita. Frankly, this question about "sexy" PE is pretty funny because I find a lot of stuff that is so intensely referential to porn, intense sexuality, general fanatic/sensational aesthetics is often times really not sexy. I wouldn't sat that ruins the quality of the works - fuck no, the failure is quite fascinating - but certainly shows how the range of "sexy" or whatever can be done in a ton of ways and perspectives in industrial/noise music.

Bump. Looking for more of this stuff. Something about the use of space, subdued and restrained but rising background tensions causing a wavering hallucinatory haze. Throbs and churns amongst it all; a pulse. Hard to describe past that.
