Title: NEW FORCES appreciation topic
Post by: FreakAnimalFinland on August 08, 2016, 12:35:38 PM
This american label has been putting out stuff since 2010. More than 40 releases, including 5 issues of New Forces zine. Been following their activities probably from around beginning. At first I may have foolishly labeled it under american noise what comes and goes. Perhaps the mid 2000's wave of pop-up noise tape labels and endless amount of projects was the reason.
However, New Forces has shown consistent and strong spirit and basically every new tape on it's discography is well justified addition. While typing this, I'm re-listening USA harsh noise compilation: Action/Discipline / Orgasmic Response Unit / Legless / Unpenis.
Some days ago I commented Pyrox tape on Knurl topic. While I was not too excited of Rodger Stella & Scant collanboration tape, I could hear how people of such style will be very satisfied.

What are good things of New Forces tapes, is that they are compact, neat, regular cassettes. There's pretty much zero gimmicks there. They don't imitate some old era, nor they seek to look like some other label. At least I don't see that. Just does sharp and decent presentation of tapes, with good quality sound and material. What is even better, is that label lives up to its name. New Forces barely relies on veterans of the genre. Among 40+ releases, you find like one Ramirez (Werewolf Jerusalem), one Macronympha related, couple Knurl related items... but that's about it. What New Forces offers, is literally some of the very best harsh noise of guys who have yet to become routine careerists, hehe...  This is very visible in New Forces zine, which pretty much oozes enthusiasm. People who are excited of noise making and excited of noise listening.

Despite being sort of semi-old timer myself, I find it utterly positive to browse magazine where guys are not jaded, bitter or nostalgic, but simply excited about good stuff. Those releases what I don't find particularly exciting on the labels discography, I feel are relevant in process of building scene. Giving chance to some currently active up&coming group, even if they aren't yet fully developed to greatness.

It's simply trusting the gut instinct that there will be more and better, if it's cultivated a little bit.

So, I simply conclude: Hail New Forces! I strongly recommend to check out bunch of their tapes before it's too late to obtain them.

Thank you Mikko for this post! I never analyse this so deep, but while reading your initial post I found myself that I have the same state about the label as yours. Enthusiastic, fresh, active... New forces! Those people love what they do and do it well. This label delivers! Total harshnoise!

Great label, Stefan is top notch - nicest guy. Good presentation and quality.

Favorite release might be: CONSTRAIN - Option To Hide

The recent COALITION compilation is great as well.

Humbled to be releasing something with him down the line.

Kjostad is a new one for me. The two tracks sound like a mix of Hum of the Druid & power electronics. Definitely worth a listen on Bandcamp.

most obvious UK destros would be, in order of preference (drum roll!) and my awareness
unrest-martin of shift's bistro
black psychosis-Si Clarks bistro
cold spring.
that said likely most UK labels also distribute in terms or swaps got.

hope this is helpful

Feel free to contact me at unrestproductions@yahoo.co.uk. I'd be happy to stock your releases. Please bear with me as my life is busy nowadays. I'm not as swift as I used to be.

This new Skin Crime - Skin Crime reissue to CD is unreal how sick it is! Hails to New Forces for making such an accurate, faithful and monumental re-issue!

I have quite a lot of Skin Crime stuff. The CD box set alone could be realistically thinking enough to satisfy needs. Nevertheless, I bought this CD from Finnish distro and there is some kind of unexplained quality why the live duo noise, that is just kind of rehearsal tape, is so good.
It has chaotic qualities, and occasionally I'd think other guy gets buried, but that spontaneous and ripping sound is so much more chaotic than "heavy noise" where (sub)bass rumble creates stillness.
So if first thinking "do we need more Skin Crime reissues if there are already..." and reply could be, that yes. Not everybody has the box and good noise is good noise!
