Post by: ConcreteMascara on April 06, 2011, 06:51:15 AM
Apparently the pre-order for the new Prurient 7" is up at the Hydra Head webstore.

This is a taste of things to come for the new album he's doing for Hydra Head. For those who care check it out.

10€ for a 7" with a different version of a track that's gonna appear on a full length and a ultra-raw demo track?
Wow. You're gotta give it to the guy.
Don't mind the price tag for a 7" that much, more just the content to pricing ratio.

I agree. I was excited for this until I saw the price tag.

I would say it depends on how many were pressed and how much money was spent on the artwork.

10$ = 7,50 euro? Seems pretty regular price of today if you ask me?
If you would have it for 5$, I can only think one instant result: "I'd like to buy 3 of these, 2 goes to my friends".
Yes, the friends who are called discogs & ebay.

I think kind of "promo single" of album is nearly unheard in noise, but I guess the case of this next Prurient is, that it will not be noise at all. Expected was synth pop of some sort, wasn't it?

Yeah i think $10 is fair for a 7" today (especially from a label like Hydra Head which i assume gives their bands more than just some royalty copies). 7"s are getting very expensive to press, last time i checked i could almost press 2 CD-releases in 500 copies each for about the same price as 1 7" in 500 copies... 7"s are becoming novelty items.

As I said before, don't really mind the price of the 7" - that's fair enough, finding 7"s for less is pretty hard by now (at least in noise). It's the content to pricing ratio that I find puzzling. Even if Prurient is gonna start making accessible, "poppy" music now, then throwing 7,50€ after a track that'll be on the upcoming full-length (= nothing special or unique to this release) and a scrappy sounding demo recording seems kinda steep. Of course if you're a Prurient fan then that won't make much of a difference.

Without knowing, it's hard to say what exactly is "alternative version". I have done few alternative versions of tracks in past, when trying to get them sound right. And there was hardly anything same in versions, but lyrics. Extremely raw demo version sounds like it could be actually more interesting? But we'll see if I ever get my hands on this. Few latest Prurient has passed by, due unusual label choices I have had nothing to do with, and not seeing it anywhere where I usually buy. So stubborn usually, I will NOT sign up on someone "webshop" to buy one release.

Have preordered my copy but this is slated as a record store day 2011 release for next Saturday (ltd 300 copies) so who knows!!

I have been told that its very different to what Dom has put out under the Prurient guise before. Very Cold Cave influenced ( given Eisolds presence not exactly a shock). I suspect not everyones cup of tea. We shall see.

Am I the only one sick to the gut of this horrible "Synth Pop" trend? Prurient and Hospital was some of the stuff that got me into the "scene" in the first place, but the turn things have taken as of late is just pure nonsense IMO. Starting you could just ignore Cold Cave and buy into the rest of the act's but now everyone latest activity seems to be some fucking synthpop release. CC and Vatican Shadow was apparently not enough, Prurient had to go down that road too??! When I first heard Dom talking about resurrecting Prurient for the live situation as a three piece I was pretty excited, seeing he's shows has always been great, and could only get even better. But now I feel like, wah, whatever.

That being said, I do enjoy true 80s synthpop, New Order, Human League, Visage etc. But these acts had rock musician skills and and proper song writing abilities. All the new acts just seems to be one casio sounding synth line, one minimal drum pattern and some mumbling.
