Title: D/L'ing movie torrents
Post by: bitewerksMTB on December 04, 2011, 08:13:50 PM
Just started using Vuze again & grabbed KIDNAPPED with no engl.subs. Always manage to do that; find a very nice rip but no subs... Anyone recommend something that is better/faster than Vuze? Also recommend any movies, documentaries, etc. that may not take 3 weeks to d/l would be appreciated too.  I tend to get impatient & delete the entire thing after awhile then d/l it again. Look at the list of films & there's pretty much nothing I'll rewatch...

Where do you find films you can d/l then burn to dvdr? I usually search movie title with 'pirate bay'. I remember someone telling me he uses newsgroups for movies he was d/l'ing then burning everything but newsgroups have to be subscribed to, right?

I don't think that downloading movies is art form so this thread will probably get deleted.
But anyway there is rip of Kidnapped with external english subtitles in Pirate Bay.
Pirate bay has lots of 'underground' movies and everything comes pretty fast.
I would recommend that you would use Utorrent instead of Vuze.

as far as programs go i recommend uTorrent. much lighter than vuse.  i think you need .iso file types to burn dvds but im not sure.

Booze ain't no visual art or literature but there's a big fuckin' thread about it.

I got rid of Vuze; slows everything down which is why I uninstalled it the last time. Will try Utorrent later.

Maybe there needs to be a MISC section for non-fancypants topics...

Booze is always art!
I'd go with utorrent for windows or mac too and deluge for linux. There are several closed trackers that I use for my needs. One of them is oriented towards dvd rips (the ones you simply burn to dvd-r and watch). If you want an invite - drop me a line to PM. There's also one nice old tracker called "Tracker 3" - it's the first link via google. weird pron, trash etc movies.

uTorrent and The Pirate Bay. There are a number of sites out there where you can download just subtitle tracks which you can load through VLC player.

Just d/l'd utorrent & grabbed KIDNAPPED again. If it doesn't have Engl. subs, what do I search for to get the engl subtitle track? As in specific wording so I don't get everything under the sun... is Utorrent the VLC player or is that something else I need to d/l?

VLC player is a separate media player, uTorrent is just the program for downloading the torrents. VLC is small in terms of size but really easy to use, I prefer it for movies and the like.

here's a website for subtitles http://subscene.com

Just download the subtitle track, put it in the same folder as the movie and then when you open the movie in VLC there's a section in the menu called video, under that is the subtitle option where you can load a subtitle track.

Looks like they have subtitles for Kidnapped at that website.

PM if you have a problem

I wouldn't recommend using The Pirate Bay. Public trackers are just asking for it, and recently ISP have been cracking down a lot on customers downloading stuff as a lot of studios have a lot of peering eyes watching your every move. PeerGuardian isn't even much help recently- best solution is probably a nice proxy ($$$).

I always recommend Cinemageddon to people because it caters to all needs. It being a private tracker means they individually check all accounts so it's harder for those peering eyes to get in. Which doesn't really matter with CG because the rights to 90% of the movies posted are no where to be found. Then it just comes down to whether you appreciate the integrity of a physical medium (hoarding, in my opinion). Open those ports and go.

I got KIDNAPPED but playing it utorrent, there's no sound !  I can only play/pause in the utorrent...  I've raised the volume, clicked mute on/off, & checked to see if I had sound playing music & definitely do so it's the stupid utorrent.

I was a member of Cinearmaggedon at one time but had nothing to upload to keep membership going.

You're playing it in uTorrent? Or do you mean VLC?

uTorrent has the option to play what you've downloaded. I've never tried it though. Keith, definitely download VLC to play videos. Less worry about a/v codecs. Also, if you're interested in a CG account, let me know. I've gotten a few people started w/ some credits so you can have a decent chunk of GB under your belt. After that it's just a bit of seeding to keep it in the black.

I suppose you won't be able to invite anyone to cg. it's been full for years now.

I've got account in there, it's just that Registered users    21,000/21,000 and it's like that for long time. you can send invites, but the person who gets it can do nothing with it until some clearance or something like that.

This may be true, but I know they're constantly deleting inactive accounts, unactivated invites, etc., and I've never had a sent invite see any sort of wait time. I'm sure they prioritize invites in some sort of way..

OK! d/l'd the VLC & it plays KIDNAPPED with engl. subtitles. I had deleted the movie from utorrent then found it in a file in my downloads; Windows played it with sound but no subs. I opened it in the VLC & it played it with the subs so will check it out later. Thanks for those tips!

cinemageddon has the most amazing stuff cos it comes from peoples vhs-rips and private collections, mostly unreleased on dvd etc.

and i got banned cos my ratios always were ridiculously low. i simply couldnt fix it. no stream going out from mine, but tons comin in, eventually the boot came of course. all other trackers worked normally. and still do. this was highly annoying and every now and then i try to re-register from anywhere but yeah theres always the full capacity. damn.

cinemageddon, i will always miss you!!

any other specialist sites out there?? not demonoid, piratebay etc, but obviously aficionado stuff...

i once got an invite to a private finnish tracker which reflected the cerebral acticity of highest idiotica. logged in once +never used it again. a few times checked some other similar sites and just felt embarassed for the human race. is this what they want to share? computer games, softcore americana porn, basic mainstream movies... what a nightmare. give em the tools and they end up playin with the wrappers.

I also recommend Cinemageddon. Last year, I tried for approximately 3 weeks to get in and finally got to register. They supposedly cull accounts every 30 minutes to free up spots. Funny though, I told someone else about the site and they registered on their first try.

Most of these movie sites/private trackers expect you to maintain a 1:1 or 2:1 ratio in order to keep an account with them, which isn't too hard. Cinemageddon has 3 featured torrents that give you bonuses, so just download them and seed them to get a good ratio. I've downloaded several things that I didn't care about watching, just to build up the ratio. Then, you can go get the stuff you want.

for whatever reason this tracker was the only one i couldnt get through to, i tried all the tricks in their faq but no results. this was so fuckin frustrating aaargh. if it was up to me i'd seed everything till mi nuts go black

"Cinemageddon has 3 featured torrents ..."

Thanks for the tip. I had never noticed the featured d/l's can be used for credits. d/l'ing one of'em now!

I rarely find much I'm interested in but good to have. Not interested in video rips; I figure they look like crap.

There's also karagarga which is amazing. I've been there since '07. Got one invite left, pm email if you want it.  I've uploaded a bunch of industrial and jap noise stuff over the years.

I've got invites to a few private trackers, including ones for movies/TV/music/ebooks, I won't post them publicly as it's against their site rules, but if you PM me with what you're looking I can hook you up.

My route for movies:

Pass The Popcorn - what I'm looking for is there most of the time, including independent/rare stuff
Teh Connection - more of an emphasis on quality (though PTP is getting better with their quality control) but certainly lacking in the non-mainstream area
Karagarga - if all else fails or if it's a super rare film, it'll be here. I save this for last as it's harder to keep a good ratio.

in the end once I exhaust all those I simply assume it's not on the internet. private trackers or bust.
