Bizarre Uproar

"Vihameditaatio".

Lastest full-length of Finnish hate extremist and anti-social l'enfant terrible Bizarre Uproar. Four tracks of decaying filth, hate and bizarre sexual humiliation.

Bizarre Uproar was initiated in 1993, and has since then released over 30 albums in addition to numerous collaborations, splits, eps and singles. Deathkey, Silent Abuse, Goatmoon, Ride for Revenge, Macronympha and Grunt are some acts that have collaborated with Bizarre Uproar in the past. These references should in their own stature give witness to the level of professionality Bizarre Uproar - aka BU - operates on. The thematic foundation of BU is purely psychosexual, and rests within a fanatic fetish culture at the explicitly perverse edge of human sexual spectrum. The visuals and lyrical content (verbatim and substratum) make no attempt to disguise Bizarre Uproar's predatory affections and blatantly hail anti-social attitudes and desires; while sadistically spitting into the face of majority PC social acceptance. During the last years BU has toured extensively in Europe. Both as a solo outfit and as a duo with the assistant of session musicians Silent Abuse and SS-Pekka. The sheer brutality and power of these live actions have at times resulted in blown out sound systems, laborious collective tinnitus and crushed reality perceptions/semi-nervous breakdowns for unprepared audience members. I personally, have observed all three occurrences in one single evening.

"Vihameditaatio" was released on CD by Filth & Violence and LP by Urashima, spring 2014. The material on the album is a continual exploration of the audial cellars manifested on prior full-length "Perverse bizarre humiliation", and 7" split "Appetite for destruction" with Goatmoon. The instrumentation on "Vihameditaatio" is relative minimal and consists of: Low-end rumbling loops, ground trembling bass riffs, heavily decayed thundering drum section, chains, contact mic`ed sheet metal, feedback, delay/reverb effect pedals, and fierce ample vocals with close to no effects - or no effects at all. The recordings and sound production are dynamic and raw with full audio spectrum. "Vihameditaatio" is the results of a lengthy developing period in the BU cargo container, stretching over several months. The material was shaped and perfected via a series of rehearsals, 4-track demo recordings and pro-longed listening sessions; before promptly being committed to tape during two short recording sessions, each lasting three till four hours. The first recording session representing 'LP Face A' followed a very structured and strict composed schematic, and was executed as a live-in-studio session. The approach to Face B had a contrasting method, as it relied only on a sketched compositional frame and was executed as ritualistic free-form improvisation, all done in one take with less and less effects - and towards the end - pretty much nailed down unplugged. The album also includes a conceptual silent track that honoures the cause. After the recording phase was completed, minor mixing adjustments were executed and volume levels checked. Make note: No heavy post-production. The Album was solemnly recorded by Bizarre Uproar. No personnel was practically involved during the course of the recording period - apart from Ms. BU aka Silent Abuse giving a critical eye on tracks and project progression.

Bizarre Uproar's choice of less and overtly violent instrumentation is a conscious one. After a substantial discography of high volume recorded filth that terrorize the listening space, "Vihameditaatio" is a critical side step from this strata and a continuing new chapter in Bizarre Uproar's career. The compositions and ideological concepts have matured and are distilled to pure essence. Furthermore, we can see a band expanding its artistic expression and compositional structures well beyond the idea of 'anti music' - to now include inspirations leaning towards: Doom, metal, hard core and religious music. Check tracks Verilippu and side B's title track Vihameditaatio for reference. Here Terveet Kädet's riffs and chaotic fervor gigs seem buried in the disintegrating low rumble... as well as... the slow - echoing - mean - calculated stride found in G.I.S.M.'s pitched intermesso sequences on VHS': "Subj and egos, Chopped" & "+ R, Regicide reverberation". The most significant severance from prior material is Bizarre Uproar's wish to slow down the tempo in own compositions, and focus on creating unique audial spaces with ambience - a decision much in contrast to a prior discography that is mainly filthy violent power electronics/harsh noise. The emphasis on less instrumentation have presented an opportunity to focus on other compositional qualities such as structure and acoustics, but also allowed time to investigate various recording techniques that would capture and utilize the BU bunker's characteristic sound qualities. With this in mind, one can to a certain extent note up the BU cargo container plus recording gear as an extended added vocabulary to already mentioned instrumentation. The new work approach seem also to have proven useful in articulating a more precise image of the Bizarre Uproar live experience onto album format. This in itself is a difficult translation to pull off - both production wise and artistically. And... if we add a lived concert experience that is audial and physical to the equation, the task begins to toll, as BU live is: An extremely dynamic and brutal seance, with an own sense of space and physical presence. If you are an industrial dyslectic or metalhead turned noise invalid what I just said translates to this: The level of physicality in sound at a Sunn O))) + 120 decibel concert hailing eras White 2, Black One and Dømkirke - is in blood with BU's might and power. A cheap and scorned comparison within extreme industrial culture yes - if it doesn't corset you drink my steamy piss - it is a valid reference aimed towards - you - the lone fanatic that still haven't checked out this act.

The sound production on "Vihameditaatio" is dense with monumental decay and minimal attack. In other words... there's plenty of dark abyss beneath your feet... and quite a distance to pitch into before crushing ground at the bottom of the mine shaft. Slight overload on a few selected pieces in the instrumentation or recording gear used. I suspect this is a desired quality that could have been achieved by a loud PA / amp section, recorded via room plus line-in signals at maximum volume in a fairly small environment. The bunker serving as a recording space color the sound quality and adds additional signature resonance to the compositions. One can at times sense how the sound waves cascade and build momentum till and of the metal walls. The attributes of production and interplay between instrumentation are one of breath and space. This strategy generates the sufficiently perfect space for the room acoustics to negotiate with the compositions, and thus adding additional depth and dynamic to the mix. The latest annexed BU rig: Drums, bass - in addition to his well known vocal and feedback abilities remain in the forefront of the tracks in full audio spectrum. Low-end rumbling loops and other ingredients shift and snake at low height within the audial space, scraping like waves over rocks at the continual semi-clear cascading forefront mix. And like natural obfuscate deep time processes the prioritized is patiently worn down before being transponded into a oblivion of coarse mid-to-low end textures. The cycle continues.

The compositions evolve slow in an assertive and ritualistic meditative fashion, each, taking its good calm time to add compositional layers and build towards hateful volcanic ejaculations. All tracks exude a mesmer and vile mordant substance. The aesthetic consistency of the recordings are of ghostly materiality with the tactility of a damp underground excavation. At times one have the sense that the work have modifiable physical characteristics as a stinging medusa jellyfish - yet at the same time ... with a viscosity that is too elusive to grasp as ectoplasm - but way too acidic to even consider approaching. Furthermore, the tracks have a circular evolving structure. This is a trait often experienced in religious music as well as folk songs from the Middle east to Scandinavia. One or more repetitive patterns are here articulated, then revisited and investigated via continual novel vantage points. The performer often process and reinterpret the musical and thematic content into new subtle variations and in this manner propels track progression. We are here talking about an inmost and detailed study of musical material and its historic roots, but also of a practice that has spiritual connotations... So... what kind of depraved fetishistic fanaticism is Bizarre Uproar worshipping? Consider this issue while reading on... Within the frame described there is a knife's edge balance between tranquil transcendence and eruptive brutality. The material is constantly evolving and holding ground, and never devolve to compositional structures with cheap campy cliches or overdone noise catharsis endings. The performer seem to be 100% committed to the material and recording situation, and hails for total immersion in flesh, composition, sound and artistic matter. Judging from the artistic investment and performance documented on this vinyl slab, the recording period must have been a physical endurance test. One can easily imagine the sweat dripping from chains unto the army boots. This is especially noticeable on the longer tracks Verilippu and Vihameditaatio, where the vocal performances drain the last reservoir from gut and vocal chords. The vocals moves within the audial space "Vihameditaatio" explores. At times pausing in a concrete position, or venturing into the mix as an added distinct layer of semi-instrumentation, then repositioning towards the foreground where it expands and breaks against the outer boundaries of the sonic sphere. The vocal trademark is as usual: Massive, harsh and guttural with attitude; but now also very much in comparison to BU in live format. When comparing the vocal delivery on "Vihameditaatio" to the semi-bridged outputs of "Perverse bizarre humiliation" and "Appetite for destruction", a subtle artistic progression in singing is located: The realization of vocals on the current album are more guttural and have an added venom texture that is raspy and coarse in quality. This textures envelope the main trunk of the voice and create an added vocal layer which resembles the technique of dual voice singing. Sparse use of effects on vocals. Where used, it functions as an supplementary element that corresponds to and with the acoustic ambiance. The album also displays a delicate and slightly lyrical side of Bizarre Uproar. This is especially evident in the level of pronunciation on Verilippu's feedback sequences - most likely executed at low or medium volume - thus creating: soft but piercing overtone feedback veils that move like the aurora borealis: Forceful, merciless and beautiful.

Urashima edition is pressed on 140 gram black vinyl with black centered labels and black inner sleeve. The LP is housed in a black gravestone like cardboard stock jacket with silver silkscreened logo and album title in front and Urashima logo on the back. Included in the stock jacket is an A5 release sheet with album information printed on 160 gram ivory paper. Mastered and perfectly cut at Elettroformati.

Bizarre Uproar

"Amputaatio".

BIZARRE UPROAR (BU) is a Finnish power electronics slash harsh noise project initiated in 1992 by Markkula. The thematic subject matter is founded in extreme sexual transgressions, and rests within a totalitarian fetish culture at the explicitly perverse spectrum of human erotics. Central concepts within this context are pleasure carnage and death ritualization; mixed with an affixed seething desire to exercise fetid sexualized violence and humiliate the contemporary - sans safewords - towards utter degradative collapse. BU makes no attempt to conceal his predatory filthy devotion. On the contrary: With sadomasochistic affection, hate symbolics and iron hard cock; Bizarre Uproar blatantly edict to strangle and fuck the world into cold end. The fervor for mass annihilation and the ultimate cleansing originate from corporeal anti-social instincts as lust and hate that urge to burst - explode -  in all directions... Leaving only crushed hope and nothingness in its wake. Can you hear the boots and latex clad masses hailing? "Verillippu nousee! Kyy Nouse!!

Twenty-three years into its run, Bizarre Uproar is at the apex of anti-music, progressively pushing what is frontier with a consistent strain of releases. The discography counts today over 100 titles and constitutes: Studio albums, live recordings, splits, eps, singles, compilations, films, numerous collaborations and studio musician appearances on external cadre's releases. BU's work is published and distributed worldwide on imprints as: Freak Animal Records, Trash Ritual, Spite, Filth & Violence, Urashima and Wrath. Bizarre Uproar has worked with many of today's well-established bands within underground noise and black metal. We cite: Bastard Noise, Deathkey, Goatmoon, Ride For Revenge, Macronympha and Grunt. In addition to studio related work; BU have toured extensively in Scandinavia, Baltic region, Europe as well as South-America; and in this capacity shared stage with several contemporary industrial/noise acts from Sick Seed to Sutcliffe Jugend. Beyond sonic work, Markkula have gained recognition for his visual expressions in raw xerox collages, installations and niche erotic film. In 2012, he collaborated with Jukka Siikala and Mikko Aspa on the art exhibition and integral book "You Are Worth It". The exposition was presented at Gallery Kalleria, Helsinki/Finland. The inherent significants of cited actor's influence on industrial culture and underground black metal, bare witness to the high level of professionality BU operates on; and that the initiative is recognized as a pioneering effort with substance by fellow musicians and a cult-following of noise fanatics.

AMPUTAATIO is Bizarre Uproar's LOVE DECLARATION to the heinous and inexorable sides of modern day Africa.  For decades the expanse have been a predominant exporter of TOTAL FILTH to the rest of the world. Read media headlines: Ruthless dictators, failed states, corruption, large-scale population displacements by sectarian violence; poverty porn, female genital mutilation, 1994 Rwanda genocide - and the corrective rape of lesbians plus virgin HIV positive children. Following this casual sequence of events; it is intelligible that BU wish to unite with the destruction and extend his hard cock to this feculent mecca; by raging through the dark continent with razor-sharp machetes and a pack of starved chain-leashed hyenas.

URASHIMA is proud to present Bizarre Uproar's 2015 hate opus "Amputaatio": A monumental suffocating grind that tremor with the physical density and ritual ambience of late BU saga live-performances. The material on the LP bridge eras "Vihameditaatio" (2014) to "Rape Africa" (2012); and consists of two structured compositions of lengthy, slow-crawling, torturous nature. The instrumentation and compositional strategies extend the groundwork defined on "Vihameditaatio", and is subtly balanced with "Rape Africa's" static rawness and brutally imploding gutter-vacuum. The metamorphosis of the two otic stances plus live-sound fervor, cement "Amputaatio" as a meditative and destructive volcanic mass that froth with malignant intent. All out rotten. Sheer bestiality. Total alienating filth. Recorded in the BU bunker Autumn 2014. Mastered by SS-Pekka.

The Lp has been pressed on 140 gr black vinyl with black label and black inner sleeve and comes in a deluxe silver silkscreen on black cardboard sleeve, with insert in luxury 160 gr ivory paper. All package in a clear plastic sleeve to protect record Lp, cover and inserts from dirt, shelf wear and damage.

Bizarre Uproar

"Dekadenz".

DEKADENZ is BIZARRE UPROAR's 88 to a newly evolved faith which cold-hearted anabolic destructive order - seethe to excrete protracted violent bereavement and terror - far beyond any imaginable perverse fetishism. Now, evangelized under the blacken banner of a double-negative yin-yang symbol, Bizarre Uproar emerge from the shadows as a decadent rubber-clad hangman with sadistic inclinations and strong inherent death drive. The previously expressed predatory psycho-sexual cause is no longer exclusively dedicated pleasure carnage and death ritualization, but furthered to include a dire calculating purist-revisionist discriminatory zeal, which worship the deterioration of society and the individual through excessive acts of domination by violence - be it mental or physical. Bizarre Uproar is birthed from the sick and anti-social mind of Markkula.

Dekadenz is Markkula's shrine to the key influences and blood ties that has diseased Bizarre Uproar, beyond its 1992 origin - till today. The album honors private youthful inspirations to adult noxious agendas; and is presented to the listening fanatic as an intricate relic assemblage which total altarpiece morph between: Triumphant decadent orgy, slow crushing anti-social terror and self-annihilation crave. Dekadenz contains four slow, torturous traumas. In total, clocking over 40 minutes of high-volume recorded music which emanate: Serrated frequency assaults and thunderous rhythmic bombardment - to coffined disquieting auras. Bizarre Uproar's wrecked and raspy vocal abuse is entombed within the audio-tonnage, and reeks of manic fist to throat hatred. The album contains strictly composed material with a determined sense of long-play continuity. Heavy damaging sound with piquant seductive lure and trenching riff-samples ripped from Finnish hard core / punk / metal bands Eristetyt and Damage. Ravenlord (Woods Of Infinity) and skin-head fiend Hjerpe provide additional icy vocal support on tracks 'Alistusakti' plus 'Vaurio'.

The album title - Dekadenz - carries a double meaning. It signifies Bizarre Uproar's stance anno 20-16; and pays homage to the '80s Helsinki punk shop 'Dekadenz', where Markkula was a frequent john while young and under the bode of Finnish underground bands: Eristetyt, Damage and Terveet Kädet. The store boarder-lined between S&M sex shop and punk paraphernalia retailer, and housed a fitting room decorated with rubber sex implements, religious images and a black strap-on dildo. The scene, and its hang-around slutty-sweet punk chicks fixed an irrevocable imprint on the lad: A lifelong allegiance to filth and violence was pledged.
To fully understand Bizarre Uproar's concept of Dekadenz, we have to look towards the artistic Decadent movement of the 19th-Century and one of its allies, writer Charles Baudelaire. He and Markkula share a common affiliation in Baudelaire's founding stance. Specifically, 'The rejection of moral restrictions and the confine of conformist society'. In BU's case, the factor is closely linked with own hate agendas slash manipulative humiliating pleasures; and how these components are driven into the physical world beyond perverse degenerative solution - towards a distorted form of Caligula'ian tyrannical excess - in which the 3rd Reich's concentration camp dominatrix Ilse Koch is a lasciviously iconic example. Understand: Watching a stranger fucking your wife, rubber & leather seduction, excrement orgy with several females, piss-play waterboarding, digestive vomit/scat torture, a punk chick's saliva - her black pegg cock... Are all sexual decadent gratifying activities - but, first and foremost - unethical strategies of war; utilized to inflict terror, damage and gain subversive control.
The Finnish theatre group Jumalan Teattri (Theatre of God) issued similar tactics during a 1987 theatre performance in Oulu, Finland. The asphyxiating closing cut on Dekadenz - 'Damage' - features an excerpt of this scandalous performance, and report an audience fleeing in terror and pain while being physical attacked by a naked Jumalan Teattri cast armed with: Whips, discharging fire extinguishers - and a hurling chaotic reign of feces, eggs, yogurt and popcorn hall bombs. While most of the unwitting guests were able to escape without contracting severe bodily harm, a few visitors had to be hospitalized due to respiratory problems caused by gas emitted from the bomb explosions. The unprecedented seance was in the aftermath publicly discussed in Finland as a case of generation rebellion, repulsive cultural terror and artistic ritual suicide. To this day, Bizarre Uproar continue to harvest inspiration from Jumalan Teattri's resolute artistic dedication and willingness to push frontiers by use of brute force. Dekadenz is a tribute continuation of Jumalan's instinctual practice, and a knife into the heart of contemporary society. The whip of all beasts is cracking down!

Dekadenz was recorded and mixed by Bizarre Uproar in the BU-bunker throughout 2015. Ravenlord and Hjerpe's contributions were eternalized at Belgian pedophile serial killer Marc Dutroux's private Marcinelle residence slash victim-warehouse, and inside an undisclosed children play-park cabin neighboring a mental institution. Dekadenz is mastered by SS-Pekka.

The release features specially commissioned photographic art-work from Finnish artist JUKKA SIIKALA. A LP-version of Dekadenz is to be announced on label VIVA ANGEL PRESS.

wfr hangar updated.

May WFR showcases two classic Mother Savage Noise Productions (MSNP) tape compilations from the 1990s and the psychedelic and rhythmic works of sonic auteur RODGER STELLA.

Tape noise compilations AMERICANOISE and NOISE WAR should be familiar to any noise fanatic. If not, it is time to study up on these two solid bricks of tremor and might. Both titles are no doubt the best tape comps in the MNSP catalogue and definitely among the top of 1990's noise compilations.

RODGER STELLA is by most fanatics synonymous with Macronympha's brutal sonically reign. For over a decade he has also been producing uncompromising electronic works under his own name. During the last years this practice have intensified, exploring sonic fields that also touch outside the well-established audial violence and chaotic precision of more known projects; continuously evolving his signature sound-production and experimental mixing techniques. The works WFR focus on are of a vast sonic territory. The musical structure is of a calmer and slower geist. From: Liquid, introvert psychoactive technicolored ambient glides; en-mass academic modular electronic rushes - to bass-heavy sculptural and mutant rhythmic cuts. This month WFR presents two solo efforts - ZODIAC SF and KOSMISCHE DUB EXTENDED - as well as his SILVER REICH project and the extended NEW BREED OF RAT album.

Kitan Club issue 7, 1954.
Japanese bdsm magazine Kitan Club is one of the earliest and most influential SM magazines in the world, and recognized by connoisseurs as one of the foundations in modern Kinbaku and SM publishing. Kitan Club was published between 1947 to 1975 (briefly revived between March 1982 - January 1983), and focused exclusively on abnormality and bondage. The content was consciously catered to enthusiasts and developed as a calm and passionate aesthetic supported by unmistakable tangible craft in all levels of the production - from paper and print quality - to typography, layout and pornographic content.
The works included ranged from amateur home photography to raw guerrilla photography and extremely delicate high-quality productions. In other words, a treasure trove of: Bondage, fetishistic hara-kiri, seme-e (sadism and image of sexual assault), humiliation, abuse and rich illustrations by for instance artist Takashi Shima depicting: Lecherous kings, hoodlum masters and ugly thugs torturing suspended hemp-bound naked princesses or brutalizing cowed house maids - to 1950′s page lifts from John Willie's Bizarre magazine!

Uramado issue 10, 1963. SOLD OUT

The Japanese meaning for Kinbaku is 'tight binding', and Shibari is 'to bind'. Uramado is one of the hallmark Japanese kinbaku magazines alongside Kitan Club and Yomikiri Romance that have influenced the special interests culture in Japan and worldwide. Published by Kubo Shoten between 1956 to 1965 Uramado presented itself as "Japan's Most Remarkable S-M Magazine". Uramado featured a rich mixture of articles, stories, illustrations and photo sessions - all executed with a high degree of professionally. Post war Japan had strict censorship laws. In an effort to circumvent this, Uramado as many other magazines would disguise agenda and content with veiled magazine titles and front covers - and from time to time feature Western artists illustration series in English - see for instance John Willie's «Sweet Gwendoline» to Betty Page spreads. Master artist Itoh Seiu experienced having one book being banned in Japan after release, after being deemed abnormal by the government. It wasn't until 1960 that Uramado openly championed the description 'abnormal magazine'.
Uramado was initiated and edited by Toshiyuki Suma (1920-1992) from 1956-1962 under the alias Kou Minomura. Suma was a well-known and respected painter, illustrator, writer and kinbakushi and played a vital and lasting role in the formation of post-war SM culture in Japan alongside for instance Oniroku Dan and Itoh Seiu.  He was educated at Kyoto School of Fine Arts with a following apprenticeship at painter Baisen Kobayashi studio. After serving in the navy during WWII he worked as an editor for the Central Kyoto News, while drawing illustrations for Kitan Club 1947 - 1953 - a position that would evolve to a full-time job. Not all illustrations were signed by Suma, but from around 1950 his works were being presented as Reiko Kita or under his own birth name. After leaving Kitan Club in 1954 he would meet up with master artist Itoh Seiu for the first time. This was a particular important personal and artistic milestone in Suma's life as Itoh indirectly was the one who sparked his interest as a child. As a kid, during the early '30s, Suma found a copy of the master artist's book «Documentation on Abnormal Customs» in his grandfather's collection. One of Suma's earliest publications «Beautifully Bound» from 1953 with photographs by Tetsuzo Tsukamoto is still regarded as one of the finest kinbaku books ever published.
Hiroshi Urado and Muku Youji served as part-time editors in Uramado from around 1960, and in 1962 Suma passed on the editorial baton to Chimuo Nureki (1930-2013). After leaving Uramado Suma would venture on to be involved in the initiation of legendary magazines SM Select and S&M Collector. Nureki harbored many of the same life steps as Suma. He met Itoh at a young age of 15, worked at Kitan Club between 1953-1955 (would return in 1960), was associated with Oniroku Dan and even practiced "bondage play" alongside Suma. His reputation as a rope artist, teacher and writer for magazines, books and television spanning a career stretching over five decades has earned him a worldwide following.

Yomikiri Romance issue 9, 1952.
Yomikiri Romance and Kitan Club were two of the first magazines completely dedicated to shibari / kinbaku photography. This was back in the early 1950's. The magazine ran 1950's - 1960's and was edited by Uchida Akiraro.
Yomikiri Romance published two special edition magazines dedicated to kinbaku. The remaining catalogue was of a similar layout as Kitan Club and showcased a high-quality richness in portrayed Kinbaku-bi, illustrations and texts. The knibaku photos themselves qualify as works of art. The magazine faced critique in the beginning of its circulation, but gradually built up a loyal following. The first year's edition was estimated to a limited circulation of 1000 copies by the publisher - an amount that would proved not to be sufficient enough to cover the bookstore market. By the end of the first year the edition had to be increased to meet the general demand and cover pre-orders.

SM Select Issue 4, 1974.
First published in November 1970 (Showa 45) by Tokyo Sansei Company under the direction by Nobuyuki Miyasaka, Hiroshi Senda, Toshiyuki Suma (Uramado, Kitan Club), etc. The magazine came at the right moment in regards to economic boom in SM printed matter production which mirrored a peaking interest in the general public. In this regards it was a highly successful effort. The high in-flux of capital during the '70's also spurred on a time of civil war within SM publishing. Many of its initiators would disperse to novel ventures. Nobunaga Miyasaka and Toshiyuki Suma founded Sun Publishing in 1972 and launched the perfected S&M Collector, while three others initiated SM Fans. SM Select's run ended in 1990 after twenty years in circulation.
SM Select's forumella was very much the same as Kitan Club and Uramado, but with a harder, non-conformist and fanatic approach. In its own sense a highly articulated effort with well-developed and professional content and execution. It is no wonder the magazine resonated within a larger part of the populous. In addition to the featured writings and brightly colored photo spreads to gritty black & white, one could find illustrations and paintings by artists: Haruo Shinozaki (cover of first issue), Jun Yoshida (gravure photography), Toshio Saeki, Kazuyuki Minori, Minoru Nagao, Ruyo Yo, Yasuharu Maeda, Mino Mura Akira, Hiro Kato, Nishimura Haruhi, Kozumi Yuko, Kito Akatsuki, Oshima Yukio, Kirigaoka Hiroyuki, Lin Moonlight, Maeda Yasunari, Yuya Nohira, Nakao Kaoru, etc. Major contributors were Dani 6 and Aotaro Aki. The principal rope master was: winkie broken dream man. The main photographer was: Norio Sugiura.

S&M Sniper Issue 6 June, 1991.
S&M Sniper is a legendary Japanese bdsm magazine which ran from 1979 to 2008 by Million Publishing and later in 1998 by Wailea publication. The publication was a vital voice in the Japanese subculture for thirty years, and aside from the obvious abnormal pleasure photographs it also showcased high-quality professional content and innovative works of art and literature from Araki Nobuyoshi, Murata Kenichi and Masami Akita (Merzbow) - plus amazing front-page illustrations by artist Yosuke Onishi. S&M Sniper was primarily a full-color operation with a special eye for intricate rope work with candles and playtime toys - all elegantly disposed with a twist of the bizarre. Revived in January 2016 as a quarterly magazine.
S&M Sniper was founded by the legendary publishing house 'Million publishing' (1976 - 1998). During it's run it launched several high quality related books - one of them being SM Spirits which by many is considered to be S&M Sniper's dirty little sister. Both issues frequented many of the same models, practitioners (Shima Shiko - 'Shima Shiko torture' films & 'Pain Gate'), photographers, sessions, etc; however the aforementioned was executed with a more refined taste and catered to a more aesthetic oriented clientele.

Suehiro Maruo «Das Ungetum Der Rosenstck».
Suehiro Maruo's (b. 1956) nightmarish manga fall into the Japanese category of "erotic grotesque" (エログロ; "ero-guro"). His unique take on the genre inflicts sadism, psychological horror and zeitgeist angst into the realm of fables and fairy-tales. The result is something like an amplified 'broken moral tale' - teeming with deformation, ultra violence, psychedelics bizarre and deviant erotica -  all executed with pop culture sensibility and drenched in cultural references from folklore to classical and contemporary art; literature and film. This fascination runs as a red river throughout his practice. Beyond the realm of manga, study for instance the bdsm-charged 90s-design for John Zorn's Naked City releases. At first glance the graphic and omnipresent violence may over-shadow deeper streams in Suehiro's storytelling. But given time, one can explore various junctions in Japanese history to the sociopolitical climate during the early Showa Era (1926–1989) - where most of his stories takes place. Suehiro's works are recognized as being meticulous and detailed with a highly effective and carefully arranged visual language that harness its historical roots from Ukiyo-e era artist Yoshitoshi Tsukioka (1839 – 1892) - to Kurotei Kazuhisa aka Suku Gurote / SUK - who's work prominent throughout mid-1950s and '60s Kitan Clubs. Studying masters Yoshitoshi and SUK, one can vision where both Maruo and the ero-guro traditon takes its pitch in terms of visual aesthetics and thematic content. A selection of Suehiro's works has also been reprinted in Japanese appreciation publication SM Spirits.
Originally published in 1982. Offered here is the 2nd edition from 1992. «Das Ungetum Der Rosenstck» collects 13 depraved story arches.

Nobuyoshi Araki with Yoko Araki «Tokyo, in Autumn».
«I left my job with Dentsu Inc. in 1972; I have forgotten which season. I had decided that I was not going to take any more commercial photographs so naturally, I did not have any work. [...]
However, I had nothing to do, or rather, I had decided to restart my career as a photographer, so I put a Pentax 6x7 with a 50mm lens and a tripod over my shoulder and headed out into the streets. It was the autumn of 1972."
 — Araki.

First July additions. Where frost reign continues its Japan spectacle and study into ultimate extacy and Japanese special interest literature. This time we are very very fortunate to be able to present further magazines of the rare title URAMADO. No backstock available.

The magazine ran for close to ten years between 1956 - 1965 and many of the now legendary practitioners, publishers and artists were at some time involved in this effort. Oniroku Dan frequented as freelance writer among other things throughout the 60s. His series of ten photobooks 'Bondage photo collection' include many shots - if not all - from both Uramado and rag Fuzoku. God-like artist Itoh Seiu also saw his work presented between the magazine's covers. Where frost reign is particulary pleased to say that we have managed to secure two magazines containing Seiu's work.

To Where frost reign, Uramado magazine are some of the finest kinbaku magazines out there. The title follows a clear Kitan Club formula, but adds its own spark and identity to the mix. The material and magazines are expertly produced and manufactured. This can among be seen in the high artistic level of the photographic work which could be included in any survey of top Japanese photography, model direction, rich illustrations (check Mario!) to for instance expertly curation of material. The soft paper quality especially benefits the black and white model photographs, a fact which is not present to online viewers. One can also locate American influences in the guise of: John Willie and Irwing Klaw.

If you are curious about how the front pages look and want to read more about this fantastic effort head over to Where frost reign hangar. I will include a link below. Remember to right-click on images and open link in new tab to read item presentations and scurry further purchase details.

August 2018

Where frost reign hangar additions.

For August WFR have as promised and by demand hustled my contacts for Oniroku Dan photo books and magazines. So, before we continue it is only timely with a short introduction by our main suspect:

Oniroku Dan (1931 - 2011): Japanese novelist, SM author, pinku screenwriter, publisher, editor, translator, Ito Seiu auto-biographer, tattoo lover society advisor, mentor and film production CEO; former bar owner, jazz singer, etc. Oniroku's impact on Japanese special interests culture is well-known and respected outside his domicile country. As editor and supervisor he forged the cutting edge expressions in the SM world wherein he still remains a pioneer to this day.

In stock now is a selection of rare collector printed matter and inks Oniroku was involved in to various degree. The focus is on the efforts where he supervised and edited publications such as the kult photo book «Sadistic Play Of Bondage» with Kishin Shinoyama among others and the Fuzoku Kitan ten-part kinbaku photo book series as well as a handful of first generation 1960 - 61 Fuzoku Kitan Pictoral Editions which are truly beautiful and a rare find. Take note that F-K was also one of the first magazines along side Kitan Club to include foreign fetish culture in the magazines, so coming across a full-page John Willie scoop, or for instance Irwing Klaw- maybe Bettie Page should be expected. F-K was also one of the first kinbaku magazines to include gay and lesbian content between the pages. This is especially noticeable from the mid-60s issues. Oniroku Dan was also engaged by the magazine as freelance writer and SM novelist. Last but not least we can also introduce issue four of his Kinbaku Supplement five-part photo book series. Actual book is quite interesting and bares the theme of women tying women; and the collectible trilogy «Gangsters And Angels" kinbaku photo book series.

As Oniroku, WFR worship the works of artist Itoh Seiu (1882 - 1961). Our suspect wrote at least a couple of auto-biographies on Seiu, so it is only appropriate this time to also present the work and life of the master artist - now in the form of a June 1961 special edition magazine issued by Fun Graph which commemorate the artist's visual endeavors in painting and drawing, all highly detailed and meticulously executed (request a few snaps and I'll forward them with a good word).

In addition to Oniroku Dan, August also sees some rare Japanese kinbaku magazines. We site: S&M Collector, S&M Command, S&M Frontier, Sun And Moon, S&M Sniper, Kitan Club and an über rare Sale2 special issue concerning John Willie Bondage. In addition to the S&M tonnage, a small selection of art books and curiosities are also available from the likes of Nobuyoshi Araki, Pater Sato to legendary Too Negative - a 200 page Japanese magazine which showcased an expertly curated mix of: Medical photography, grotesque art, kinbaku art and photography, death fixation, autopsy photography as well as artworks by contemporary statures such as Trevor Brown of Whitehouse cover art fame.

The current Japan haul also include three Jun Hayami ero-guros. Namely: "Boiling Hot Honey», «Vile Vulgar» and «Death Thought Becomes Destiny» - which exists in an ordinary edition as well as signed version with Hayami drawing. The comics are especially recommended to you if you are into Suehrio Maruo and other transgressive Japanese comic artists. Jun Hayami is today regarded as one of the masters of ero-guro, His works are at first glance graphic, sadisitic and hyper-violent. Sub level the stories also depicts: sexual awakening and fetishes, confusion, loneliness, sorrow, caging obsessions and existential angst.

In addition to books a few selected records are now on offer. Featured labels are: Hospital Productions, Obsessive Fundamental Realism, Strange Rules, Tommy Wright III's Street Smart Records, Modern Decadence and a homage to 1980s Broken Flag plus Come Organisation compilation albums.

LUST FIST track ENHET OG UTSPREDELSE from forthcoming Where ƒrost reign cassette UTLØSNING GJENNOM TRAGEDIEN featured on Wannamarchi Club's latest 199Radio radio show, published July 30th 2018. The program in its entirety is now streaming via selected channels (see soundcloud link below). Check out this killer mix slash collage piece. "Quick google search" , that's enough for the PC "warrior" to convict someone today. Often this quick google search refers to posts by other PC "warriors" . Old school -real- communists or nazis, even in total war times, did more serious research and had more clues before send someone to the camps or shot him, thing which i am sure these "warriors" would like do but too pussies for it. So they tweet, and it's effective. Or visiting you by group of 50, still more honest than tweeting.

Totalitarian methods stupidly applied by idiot liberals, still they work, cause we live in this era, the era when the idiot -thinks he- reigns through democracy. Those behind the curtain want more of these idiots. "Give them liberalism, give them democracy, make them feel important, good, something, that their opinion matters haha, what a whole mass of idiots! " . They never felt so safe, so powerful.

You say i am nazi, yes i am ! It's the only response those convicted by the PC "warriors" online courts should answer.

Totally agree with Theodore.

QuoteLet's keep making sure everything shown everywhere is 100% unproblematic, because let's face it, shutting down people and shows is not only cool: it makes problematic stuff disappear!

Holy shit! I don't want to live in such a boring world.

Where ƒrost reign label & press November update is now live.

As promised the new update feature an extensive bibliography into writer, editor and rope master Dan Oniroku. Where frost reign is pleased to announce that we are able to present some of his rarer and much sought after publications, namely the «Bondage Photo Collection» five-part photo book series, his 1972 collaboration with photographer Daido Moriyama «Kagero» and for instance the three-part art book series «Beloved - Bunkyo Era Bondage Series» - and let's not forget Oniroku's own SM magazine SM King. As a lengthening of Oniroku Where frost reign also presents a selection of rare and out-of-print publications with the Japanese artist and rope master Itoh Seiu. This are highly recommended - the first being issued in 1953. It is also a pleasure to bring to attention that we have been able to get our hands on ten unread Physique Pictorial magazines dating from the '60s to '70s - all containing Tom Of Finland front covers and art. In terms of literature make a note of Peter Sotos's «Ingratitude» and two new additions from US imprint Amphetamine Sulphate - Gary Mundy' s «Specialist Fabricator» and the collaborative book «Small Talk at the Clinic» by writer Thomas Moore and artist Steven Purtill.

The November hangar addition sees new records form imprints: Filth An Violence, Street Smart Records, Endangered Speices, Klaxon and more. Potential month high-lights are definitely Tommy Wright III's masterpiece «Runnin - N - Gunnin'» and the new Bizarre Uproar album «Verikiima» - which contains four full volume recordings of slow tectonic gravity; physical charge and eruptions with ethereral vampyric fist-to-throat vocals. A serious 2018 contender. As I type Where frost reign is also in the midst of a brief chat with American noise act NIT. The result of this will soon be able to read online.

Nefarious Activities

«Issue # 2».

This number contain Interviews with:

Terror Cell Unit
Bacillus
Subklinik
- And a special feature with collage artwork by Paul Kerin of NYC label Fieldwork.

Nefarious Activities dives deep into the zeitgeist and mind of the enigmatic cultural terrorists — Terror Cell Unit — who with explicit insight discuss their unique reformative ideas and approach to contemporary urban militaristic music.
Bacillus first public interview since 1993. The band map out its origin story, talks hands-on strategies re noise music-making before transcending to its engaged connection with biology, minute life and the pathogens that cause disease, pandemics - and god hope: Civilization collapse. A truly inspiring position and convoluted artist statement.
First Subklinik interview from this frontier moniker. Subklinik and Nefarious Activities charts a map of the band's birth and artistic progression - and via the Marco Corbelli slash Slaughter Productions years - the exchange unveil an until now esoteric fresco that is Subklinik's singular vision, legacy and way forward.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruAvOLdKEag&t=67s (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruAvOLdKEag&t=67s)

Master artist Toshio Saeki (1945 - 2019) was born in South-east Japan, Miyazaki prefecture. At age four the family relocated to Osaka, where he graduated from college and started his illustration career in advertising. In 1969, Saeki moved to Tokyo with hopes of having his works published. Living and working in his studio, he continued to developed the now signature art fundamented on Japan's wealthy traditions in ukiyo-e, shunga, ero-guro and folklore. Within the first year in the metropolis he self-published a 16 piece black & white print series «Collection of drawings by Toshio Saeki». Saeki also had one of his illustrations printed on the front cover of now cult journal series Black Magazine. After proposing his works to several publishing companies without luck, new talent magazine Heibon Punch published in 1970 a selection of his works. The art-feature was well received and brought attention from the public, media and culture personalities such as: Shûji Terayama, Maki Asakawa to Tatsuhiko Shibusawa of Le Sang Et La Rose. The sum of the experience enabled him to become a professional artist. His first artist book of identical title as the aforementioned self-publication was issued in 1970. The offer at hand - «Works» - was published in 1971, while the equal important artist monograph «Red Box» came in '72. In addition to publishing several artist books and exhibiting internationally, Toshio Saeki was from 1970 a contributing illustrator for several counter-culture and adult magazines. Think: Erotica, Black Magazine, SM Select to S&M Sniper. Until he passed away in 2019 Toshio resided outside Tokyo in the mountains of Chiba prefecture.

Toshio Saeki's surgically precise drawings and prints showcase a distinct and unprecedented visual language. His late 1960s and early '70s works often display monochrome and color representations with compositional shapes crossing over to abstractions. After settling in Tokyo, he quickly appropriated a color palette and artistic method that echoed Japan's neon pop culture explosion and rich traditions in woodblock printmaking. In its core, Saeki's artistic practice is deeply rooted in a multilevel suspension between Japan's cultural and political heritage to the country's rapid at-all-cost race into the contemporary as a leading economic and technological power. When we look at his coded dream-logic scenery, we see a collective subconscious that reminisce over its historical and psychological debris - in essence: The cycle of nature - life, death, conception - precise and elegant condensed into an ultimate distilled experience. Saeki always resisted the Western interpretation of his oeuvre as only being linked with concepts eros and erotica. These elements are certainly present, but the artist's position is exceedingly complex and relates maybe more to Georges Bataille's understanding of the subject matter as presented in his book «Erotism: Death and Sensuality» (1957). Writer and director Shūji Terayama formulated in 1969 his friend's universe as a stab: «Toshio Saeki conjures death with a pen». In a later interview when discussing his work Toshio Saeki expressed: «Ero is the recipient of the life of the man. Through it, death is profiled. When I adapt myself to this ero, by making it the topic of my drawings, I feel neither constrained, nor hesitant».

«The History Of Japanese Bondage Photography Volume 1».

Masami Akita aka noise musician Merzbow is for the uninitiated also a bondage fanatic and long time collector of rare SM books and magazines. «The History Of Japanese Bondage Photography» is a comprehensive book regarding the history of kinbaku that has been developed with legends kinbakushi Chimuo Nureki and photographer Akio Fuji in advisor capacity. Even today, the title at hand remain one of the most in-depth encyclopedias about SM - its practitioners and models, magazines, photography and art. Akita, who regard Nureki as his teacher, charts the timeline from post-war Tokyo and influential master artist Itoh Seiu's torture shibari through Toshiyuki Suma aka Minomura Kou's rich career in Kitan Club, S&M Collector — and well into the 1990s and Chimuo Nureki's contemporary evolved kinbaku to magazine editorial work with Kommunication.

This luxurious 324 page SM tome, published in 1996, is a beautiful photo book and visual library that contain over 300 black and white original images, now scanned to high resolution. The visual material is mostly supplied by company Office Fuji Kikaku and Chimuo Nureki, and stems from private collections and the vast photography archive of key SM magazine Uramado - which both Toshiyuki Suma and Nureki edited. Uramado was active from 1956 to 1965. Suma was after Kitan Club engaged as co-editor and later editor in chief between 1956-1961; while Chimuo was editor in chief 1962-1965. In addition to desk work for Uramado, Suma was also the house kinbakushi - an assignment he continued with until the magazine seized operations. Many of the photographs in this book are previously unpublished, while a handful of others may be recognizable to some from Kommunication and Uramado. However, the latter magazine selections appear in seemingly full unedited size compared to the images seen in the 1960s print. The book also include a large and important section of bondage photography from the godfather of Japanese kinbaku: Itoh Seiu. The texts and commentary are written by Masami Akita, who channel insights and anecdotes from our two advisors SM-careers that dates back to the early 1950s. A selection of images from «The History Of Japanese Bondage Photography» are featured in the Merzbow documentary film: «Beyond Ultra Violence - Uneasy Listening By Merzbow» (1998).

Masami Akita and Chimuo Nureki have also collaborated on the 1990s SM-harakiri film series «Kinbaku» - and titles such as «Kinbiken» and «Shitsuraku-en».
