Title: Simple (and free/cheap) video editing programs for Mac?
Post by: cosmonaut on January 10, 2014, 07:14:47 PM
I am probably going to start playing live again soon, and I was wondering which would be the simplest and cheapest way to edit a video, to use as background, from found clips (e.g., captured with Jing from movies, youtube videos, etc).
I plan to use a lot of looping/repetition; the ability to create the structure (e.g., number of times each of the individual clips is repeated) via simple mathematical formulas would be a plus.

I use iMovie for things like that...Very basic, but for simple things works well.

imovie is good if you don't want to pirate anything. honestly though if you can get a copy of Final Cut Pro 7 (not FCP X) it's really easy to use and can do anything you could think of.

I played around with iMovie, and, while functional, it is too confusing for my taste. The fact that clips are moved around if you add/remove something, in particular, is annoying. I am experimenting with VideoPad, http://videopad-video-editor.en.softonic.com/ (http://videopad-video-editor.en.softonic.com/), that is free and allows one to place clips on a timeline and use multiple layers. Terrible memory management, I guess, so it plants often, and it lacks many features one might want. But closer to a pro video editing suite.
