Title: ZERO CABAL obscurities
Post by: FreakAnimalFinland on March 23, 2016, 12:20:25 PM
Debra Petrovitch "Songs From Transylvania" tape
Zero Cabal
Roughly 20 minutes tape from old Zero Cabal catalogue. Australian female artists, who seems to be quite low profile. Perhaps been more active in late 80's, but didn't find much documantation. I know she was in project with John Murphy still back in early 2000's called Shining Vril. Before that, Murphy did project with Ulex Xane under name Vhril.
Debra's tape is great. Especially A-side with its side long piece. Like mixing together some rough industrial noises and little bit of dramatic voices a little bit Diamanda Galas sort of howling voices and little bit organs of some sort. Noise is pretty simple, but highly addictive due it's crude nature yet tasteful use of echoes and such. Only sample of her works I could find is this, but tape is better!

Zero Cabal has lots of other obcure projects like Thule Society, Pure Filth, Kaput Mortuum, Fuck The World, My Father Of Serpents, Browning Mummery and more. Industrial Recollections put out Streicher, Goldenrod, some compilations etc. but still this label has several almost forgotten gems.

Would like to hear more Psy Phalanx material. One recording session I understand was made in underground sewers, the brief snippet I heard ("Army of Shadows" or something like that, only in French) was great, mostly acoustic sources ultra-amplified by the site.

Browning Mummery suck, or at least did when I saw him do a live performance. Third rate CMI style post-Industrial on a laptop. Weak.

According to Discogs, Ulex was involved in Psy Phalanx. I have two of their tapes & remember them as being very good. I've never heard the debut which has the material recording in the Catacombs.

P.P. would be prime material for I.R. to release if he can get his hands on all three tapes.

Would also be very interesting to check out some of the art used on flyers and other promotional material. There doesn't happen to be a site hosting them?

I have tried. Not sure if it will happen. There is a great legacy on ZC label what would be unfortunate to not be documented slightly more.

Any one have any info at all on Thule Society? Ulex mentions the project in his chapter of Fight Your Own War, saying something about it focusing on his more "spiritual" ideas (or something like that) and I am totally intrigued. Would love to hear it.

The user @preciouspaperparts on instagram has several high quality photos posted of the inserts and zine that came with these releases. seems to be themed around the actual Thule society and 3rd Reich occultism. I would personally love to see these reissued as well as they are near impossible to find and it doesn't seem like any rips exist...

I may be mistaken, but I seem to recall Old Captain mentioned something about a Thule Society release.

Topic inspired to listen Thule Society "The Myth Of The Twentieth Century", and got to say dont get too much out of it, it's OK exprimental stuff but that's that. Too bad also that the open wound edition I have didnt come with the booklet.. Still interested to check the upcoming CD if it has some the other tapes on it or some unreleased material.

That Kaput Mortuum mentioned on the first post is really great stuff, definitely should be done into a CD or something!

Just found this on YT, does anybody know if this is really from Streicher/Ulex Xane and was released on Zero Cabal? If not, who or what else is this?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCQvPlnrRzo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCQvPlnrRzo)

Not much info to be found and it sounds a bit strange for a Streicher/Ulex Xane record, but what do I know...so thanks for any clarifications!

Track on YT is Women Of The SS - Rigor Romance. Only listened a few sec to compare but it's enough. Here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCl_kJ-zpZc . Uploader's mistake probably or a "joke" .

Speaking of the earliest couple of Browning Mummery releases – Oracles And Prescriptions is supreme... much more memorable than Orbiter Scripta. Both had 'unofficial' versions on Zero Cabal - which makes them all the more collectible.

Not really Zero Cabal directly, but checked out the CDs I have by Deathcamp - another label operated by Ülex and another lad. Exterminant was good Wallish Noise with some extra modulations and twists and turns to spice things up, but Ülex Xane "Forgotten Genocides" CD was the one that instantly grabbed my attention. Broken textures with some fuller blasts underneath, somehow blunt and direct, but craftier and more clever than one may think at first.
Would be interesting to see more stuff from this surrounding resurface.
