Title: Concrete Mascara
Post by: Fluid Fetish on June 11, 2016, 04:35:55 AM
I've been listening to this off and on a lot lately, huge binges of the couple of tapes I have consisting merely of Pursuit of Hedonism... and the Art of Deviance compilation and everything thus far I really, really like. The attention to detail both musically and on the artwork/inserts/concept of Pursuit I love especially. Hopefully some day I'll have money to spend on music again, but can anyone recommend where should I go from here? I've been meaning to pick up History of Ruin for quite some time.

The main core member of Concrete Mascara (Frank) provided a very detailed and in depth interview in the new issue of noise receptor journal if people want to delve more into the project.

Pick up everything you can get your hands on, you can't go wrong with CM, every release I know is great!
If I'm not wrong there should also be a new album out very soon.

I received the new cd yesterday. I haven't listened to it yet* but the design work is nice & my copy came with a burnt up photograph.

*Okay, I've started listening to the new cd on Malignant & it's REALLY abrasive. Harsh as hell electronics with intense vocals. Very noisy. If you like his previous releases then there is no reason why you wouldn't like "Perennial Disappointment".

Although I haven't heard the most recent material, I'd say Frank is perhaps one of the better vocalists in PE. From the very first tape through Pursuit Of Hedonism, he has this "blind rage" style of delivery that only EJ/Final Solution and Adolf Christ/XE seem to be able to match. The fact that he does this and is a cigarette smoker blows my mind.

Yes! Organized Resistance and Grunt I'd add to the list of those who do the blind/frenzied rage vocal style PERFECTLY along with CM, the vocals on Pursuite of Hedonism blew out the shitty speakers I use at work! I'd say that's a shining endorsement.

I didn't know a new album was coming out at all, and on malignant records no less, definitely good news. I'll also be picking up the new copy of Noise Receptor as I always do. I want to know more about this project as I get strong undertones of Philip K. Dick from the work I've heard so far and needless to say, to quote Robocop,  I'D BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR.

There is good interview in Finnish language in new issue of SAIRAUS zine. Frank mentioned he went more explicit on some things of interview, knowing that it will be only available for limited amount of readers. I have yet to read interview on noise receptor, but will jump into it when I get magazine in my hand.

Even if seeing the Finnish live shows, talked with Frank many times, I often ended up listening his releases long after they were released. With exception of latest live tape. No other reason, but simply sheer amount of stuff waiting to be listened. This is one reason I have not said so much about his works, but if one needs one more guy to encourage, I can conclude: Get his stuff!!

I believe the debut CD album was pressed merely 100 copies, but on real CD. I assume most thought it would be available forever being regular jewel case, but this is as small - or smaller - than his tapes! So hurry up before it's too late.... With new album being vastly bigger edition, I assume people will soon fight to find this earlier works...

have to say after a few listens that i still like the disturbing moods from blossoms more as a complete album than the new one, but nevertheless xlent

frank also has a deep fetish for other elektro music, his label vanity has released a slick tape from agidion. kinda sounding old and futuristic at the same time.. anticon flavored stuff

One of my favorite projects currently. Crushingly heavy and intense. Love everything I have heard thus far.

several listens down the line, even with compromised stereo, there is a more aggressive, harsher sound on display than some prior releases.most enjoyable.

An update regarding Concrete Mascara and related for those interested:

This weekend Vanity Recordings will be reissuing Concrete Mascara's 4th album "History of Ruin" on cassette. Originally released by Trapdoor Tapes in 2015, this reissued version will feature refreshed artwork on purple cardstock, a slightly tweaked master and true to the master dubbing. The initial run is 50 copies.

Beyond this reissue, Concrete Mascara is on a recording hiatus, but Virgin Entrails, a new project born of the same mind is running strong. Virgin Entrails is my solo project which is closer to harsh noise than power electronics, for whatever that distinction is worth these days. Copies of the 32 minute, self-titled debut are now available from Vanity Recordings and Uninvited Recordings. A second tape will be available through Vanity Recordings on November 25, 2020.

Finally the long delayed release of the recordings of Jigoku, a short-lived sloppy grindcore miasma with yours truly on vocals, will be released this weekend too. "Alcoholic Hell" features two complete live rehearsal recordings coming in at a staggering 13 minutes total. The tape is limited to 25 copies. Recommended to those with no self-respect.

For those interested you can email perfectblue69 [at] Hotmail [dot] com . Distribution for the History of Ruin reissue and Jigoku tapes will be limited.

All the new V.E. material was really good. I dare to say better than CM! I like the ripping electronic sound used for the noise.

Is Concrete Mascara still on a recording hiatus? Would love to see Virgin Entrails make a come back if so, It's been 3-4 years since any releases from both projects but all of the material is fantastic.

Concrete Mascara is still on hiatus, and likely indefinitely. I am still actively working on Virgin Entrails material. There's a collaborative tape that's been in the works for a while, but is moving slowly due to my limited time to work on the project. In the last 2 years I lost access to the commercial copier I used to prepare artwork for Vanity Recordings releases which has made finishing my zines and the "Beneath the Trapdoor" complicated. I also started a new job and I can't access this website or my personal email from my work computer. So I've been primarily in lurker mode on my phone. New Virgin Entrails material will be released, when it's ready.

AH, sorry to hear Frank! No more Concrete Mascara releases from now on? Anyways always interested in new endeavors going on, whether its CM, Virgin Entrails or something else.

There is a new collaborative track from me with Frank CM out on 20 Years And Still L.White (https://www.discogs.com/release/26034007-Various-20-Years-And-Still-LWhite), still need to contact the L.White guy for getting some copies but I can send you the track if you'd like.

Yes, I'm very bad with communication for the last year, hope to pick it up for next year so we can finalize our collab. Surely there will be a full release at some point and maybe a shorter tape (might separate the 'pure' noise from the more vocalized tracks), but there still is some work to do.

Shame on me, but none is forgotten.

Your track on that comp was great!
