Stephen P. McGreevy's recordings can really bite at me.  I don't notice it for a while, but then, suddenly, I'm almost in a panic to shut them off.  I feel like some of it is pinging away at the inside of my bones.  They're field recordings, and I don't think he intends them to affect anyone that way.

As far as an exploration of the effect of sound on people I think Leif Elggren's "Virulent Images/Virulent Sound" could be considered scientific in it's intent.

A solid science however is always dusputable in his work; maybe that makes him a good artist.
