Title: Favorite Noise Collaborative Albums
Post by: Cranial Blast on December 15, 2023, 04:04:37 AM
I was curious to know what everyone's favorite collaborative type albums are and by that I mean, for example like when Bizarre Uproar and Ride For Revenge teamed up to make an entire album together, but doesn't necessarily mean having to be limited to a "duo" like collaboration album, rather anytime an album featured artists working together as one force of noise chaos! My perticular favorite in these types of collaborations has always been and probably will always be when Scatmother and Yasuhito Fujinami teamed up under the project name Entartun and for those of you who have not checked this self titled CD out, I cannot recommend it enough! It's like a modern day Whitehouse approach, but with more industrial and harsh noise type elements mixed in to the overall power electronics savagery. Curious to know what are all your favorites, or what types of collaborations you'd like to see in the future that you'd like to see happen as well!

I definitely agree on Entartun. It's a truly excellent release and I wish we would see some more from the project

Skin Graft & John Wiese - Accessible World
This one sounds incredible. EXTREME.

The Three Temples
The Four Shrines
Aube with Masonna and Astro, Aube with Pain Jerk, Solmania and Mikawa. Not really advertised as collaborations of these projects but the people behind them. Surprisingly ambient material (especially The Three Temples) but of course if you involve Kohei Gomi of Pain Jerk with a project in 1996 it is not gonna be 100% laid back soundscapes.

A lot of faves named already.  Big fan of a lot of Wiese collabs, and the Evil Moisture/Macro set is a classic for a reason.

Some others-
Sissy Spacek/Smegma: Ballast
Sissy Spacek/Hijokaidan: Entropic
Kevin Drumm/Tom Smith: Reconquer Sleep or Disappear
Borbetomagus/Voice Crack: Asbestos Shake
Runzelstirn & Gurgelstøck/Masonna: Clitoris Projectile Pump Action

Blunt Force Trauma - Bled Out
Johnathan Canady (Deathpile) and Scott Candey (Gruntsplatter)
Almost a perfect album. Heavy and oppressive as fuck.

Dog Holocaust - Volume I, II, III
Nolan Throop (Kakerlak ) and Dan Johansson (Sewer Election)
Dirty and unrelenting. Probably one of the best collaborations ever done. Has a certain sound that moves the needle for me.

Stimbox + Abfall - Tail of the Comet
Haven't listened to this tape in a while, but still thrills me whenever I do. Stimbox has always and will always be a huge influence.

MXM - Flesh Biting Paedophile
Macronympha & Monde Bruits
For late night listening when you're in the mood. Or really any time you want to get your head pounded in. Great sounding and just enough ebb & flow/send & return to keep everyone happy.

Leapt into my head, too. Also - and not strictly noise - but the Boyd Rice & Frank Tovey LP was the gentle introduction that got me interested in the world of noise, all those years ago...

The Scatmother & Pissoir Rouge album collabs are pure gold. Each is unique.
The XE & ZSS collabs as well, with a focus on the Whites Only - Live in Finland live album.

The John Wiese/Wolf Eyes collaborations from back in the day still reign as pretty supreme to me.  I know that the American Tapes one were all compiled onto a Troniks CD, which was also home to the equally entertaining Equinox disc.

Prurient & Kevin Drumm knocked it out of the park with All are Guests in the House of the Lord

Bastard Noise has plenty of great collaborations, but I think I will cheat by saying that Hails the Finnish Sound Masters is the best in the bunch.  Every track on there is explosive.

In recent memory, the Dilloway/Lescalleet tape on Hanson was a fun listen, plenty woozy.  Dilloway/Prurient tape set on Hospital is also a very interesting listen each time I pop it in.

Best live collaboration I ever saw that made its way onto a tape came from Deterge & Cloning.

First of all Alfarmania & Proiekt Hat albums, especially "Mardrömd Dödsström". These projects complement each other perfectly, I enjoy listening to everything these guys have recorded together.

SS WOM is also a great collab. Listening to their only album really transports my mind to a graveyard of ships.

Recent releases of Zyklon SS & Xenophobic Ejaculation, namely "War's Wild Beast" and "Whites Only" are now regulars on my playlist. I was especially pleased with Pekka's active presence on "WWB", whose style can't be confused with anyone else. The album is very diverse, yet elaborate and heavy as panzer armor. I rarely listen to live releases, but "Whites Only" is exactly the case when a live recording sounds as interesting as a full-length album. The insane pressure of this performance is comparable for me to the "Live In Finland 2016" by ZSS. I was pleased by the presence of samples from Black State's "Hlose".

Pissoir Rouge & Scatmother sound great together. I really like "Toxic Masculinity" for its more diverse and thoughtful sound compared to the previous albums. Of course, I also like the piercing high-qreq. attacks on "Physics Dissolve In Urine" and "Hentai Femdom Aktionismus", these albums sound more spontaneous and raw and there is a great in that too. I'm glad that the guys are experimenting and producing varied material.

Sick Seed & Zyrtax have a fine web release "Crimson Glow", which I hope will be released on CD \ tape someday. I really like this minimalistic industrial with Pekka's signature psychedelia. It seems that here among other things they used some leftover samples from Sick Seed's "Failed Rituals", which I also love a lot.

Off the cuff...

Organum & The New Blockaders: Salute and Pulp are classics. The mixing of Blockaders metal work and David Jackman's rich electronic drones and tones work so exceptionally well together.

Macronympha & Mlehst: Macro have done some of the best collabs ever between MXM, OVMN, Slave Labor, and so on... but Joe & All work extremely well together too and there have been a number of really successful albums between the two. The Macrosonic album from 1997 as well as the 2022 Lords of Sex in particular.

Hijokaidan + Akira Sakata: The "jazz" series, Made in Studio and Live in Japan, might be my favorite Hijo collabs. Everything is super harsh, chaotic, and it just works so well.

Government Alpha/scum + Kazumoto Endo/scum: Truly exception harsh and well paced cut-up albums. scum is one of the most talented "new generation" guys out of Japan and these two collaborations are top-notch.

Sewer Election & Treriksroset: the killing series classic at this point.

Seepage: Kiran Arora and Ginny Benson. Truly out there and beautifully unique noise. Not much out there sounds like them. Second Nature and Tertium Quid are really stand apart releases.

Way too many to name... I could spend hours culling through the collection and posting collabs.
