I have a television, but it is for watching films on VHS/DVD/BR only. As well as, "cough cough" movie files that, well, somehow ended up on my computer.
I don't even know how to get "regular TV" on my TV, if I wanted to, which I don't. A few times in recent years when staying at hotels etc. I've turned on the television and then turned it off in despair five minutes later.
Getting rid of TV is the easy bit. The problem with social media is that it is useful for some things. Contacting people, messaging people, promoting shows etc. But it is also undeniable that it is deliberately designed to rot your brain, hack your mind and turn you into some kind of biological spambot, a living extension of some social media algorithm.
I think the choice of not owning a smartphone may be a good one. Will probably go for that next time I need a new phone. Although, thank heavens, I'm not one of those people who are addicted to their phones to the degree that they are even unable to walk to from one spot to another without staring at it.
Even if these limitations people place on their online use are artificial/arbitrary, they still help and I'd encourage anyone to try them. Limit the number of devices you own, or only use them at work etc. Whatever works for you. Whenever I finish a good book or a productive recording/editing session, I never feel like that time would have been better spent mindlessly scrolling insta.

I feel like being away from (non-recording) tech/screens definitely helps, unless you have one for "inspiration". Have recently taken up recording outdoors even, setting up in abandoned horse farms and dirt fields which honestly boosted the mood and intensity of recordings.
Being someone with a shitty attention span is awful when recording in living room while someone is watching TV. I end up looking at whatever's on the screen than my own gear. Now, if I'm recording at home I just set up in my room. No TV, laptop is hardly in use, just phone mic set up to capture whatever it is I'm doing. Can't check Instagram at the risk of fucking up a take, eh?

I was reading new Agonist Sounds #1 zine and Analfabetism was talking about his fairly prolific output in recent years, explaining that he doesn't own TV, nor smartphone, lives in countryside without much happening but bunch of cats in the house. There wasn't massive manifests about how much of it is intentional, somehow conscious decision and how much it is just not being interested in what things like constant presence of social media etc can cause.
Already more than decade ago I did conscious decision that I don't want to live with big screen TV taking attention in the living room. I do have TV, but there is designated space, to watch it. Meaning basically only movies. You go to small TV room, with nothing else there, and TV is for those moments only. Other times, there is no reason to be in the room and there is never moments of "hmmm.. what's on the telly right now". Haven't done that since... 90's probably.
I know a lot of guys who make conscious decision to leave specific social media platforms, just because they know addictive nature of reels and picture feeds and know they'll "accidentally" spend even hours, just browsing without even intent to find anything. I know only couple who do not want smart phone, just because they keep it to level that distractions are minimal. People can reach them, but that's enough.
I mentioned in the "quitting noise" topic, that it seems clear that the environment and conditions one creates, effect how you live. If one has tapes and records boxed away, somewhere is basement, and stereo system reserved into corner of sad mancave, then the so called "normal life" may indeed be dominated by what is the actual living space like. So arrangement where things one wants to do is prioritized, instead of what is sort of automatic expectation of society right now, seems not only obvious, but simple way to do it.
Of course, there are so many other things to do in life that its not all about listening noise records, or making of noise, but I am curious if people have been making these conscious adjustments and what are the effects of it? Like guys who removed themselves from IG or something, when nonstop stream of semi-naked ladies stopped, are you doing something creative or more rewarding? Reading, listening albums, making something etc?
I did conscious choice of even limiting use of computer only to "working hours" so to say. I don't need computer open all day every day, so replying emails may have been slower for decade or so, but they'll get done. Just on designated time and place, not in form of distraction where I need to quit what I'm doing any time I hear email arrival sound, in pavlovian response style, hah..
Do I get more things done? Who knows. It is perhaps just more quality of being somewhat more immersed into particular thing, when there is focus on that.

AGONIST SOUNDS #1
ana fosca / Analfabetism / Attic Shrines / Compactor / DAYOFWRATH / Death Appeal / Empty Vessel / Fanalstatt / Hounding / LUST FIST / The Nausea / Sa Bruxa / Xiphoid Dementia
Side thing for Noise Receptor and one may ask why do two zines that look similar and cover sort of same territory. Editor explains his motivations and of course fine with me! Agonist Sounds is all about interviews. Nothing else. No ads, reviews, articles, etc. Some artists photos to go along the interview.
I doubt you can say with any zine that they feature the same old, hah. Even if amount of noise related zines is probably bigger than ever (?) and also podcasts on to of that, I doubt there are "not this guy again!" -type reactions very often. With Agonist Sounds, I am more leaning to reaction like "who are these guys?!". Of course half of them are stuff I even distribute, but several I never listened to and have no idea what they are doing. So far, interviews have turned out to be pretty interesting!

Lost track of noise a bit between my mid 20s and mid 30s. For whatever reason I spent my late 30s getting deeply reacquainted. Now at 48 I don't think it will stop.

MOSS HARVEST "Redux Amalgam" LP
Total Black
Excellent. I have been listening to this about week now. Over and over again and with exception of somehow abrupt ending of album, it feels really damn good.
CONTAGIOUS ORGASM "Behind Closed Doors" LP
Ant-Zen
Another very good LP! There are very short drum beat moments in otherwise cinematic sound collage type of album. Neat sound quality, good cut, ant-zen going sort of "back to basics" with small edition vinyls and hand made album covers. Can't complain!
