For me, listening to it on LP has the effect that I have a hard time remembering any standout tracks when the record is through. I'm thinking about getting the CD version, as I have a feeling that listening in a different way might open the album up more for me.

Yeah, I think you're right - there are no 'stand-outs' or 'big hits'. Some I prefer more than others, for sure, but nothing that will be in their 'canon', I'd say. I bought both formats, but can't say I listen to the LP that much. For the forthcoming ones I just went for the CD and the Osaka LP. Doesn't seem vital to have both formats anymore.

That sounds like a lot of effort just to try and like something

I enjoy listening to it best as two separate discs, the more ambient first disc and the harder second disc. Overall I think it is a good release but I have spent a disproportionate amount of time with it this year because of going to see them in Japan.

Didn't say I didn't like it, rather that each LP side feels like one massive block rather than a collection of single tracks to me. I'm just pondering if maybe some of the tracks that are in the middle part on one of the LPs might benefit from being listened to independently from the whole and if perhaps listening to tracks like that could also benefit my perception of the DLP as a whole. I do tend to listen intensively to one thing for a while rather than shop around. Just my listening habits.

Challenging music isn't easy.

Any word on when these February releases are out? I guess any week now. I tried looking for a more exact date but couldn't find.

I was kind of wondering the same thing, but I'd imagine Tesco will be mailing them out soon.

Listening to the new album right now. A nice, balanced mix of all the familiar ingredients, not disappointed so far.

Phenol

First impression of the new LPs, listening only once to both of them so far. Operations With Contempt is basically the usual style and very good at that with a good mix of brooding and more aggressive tracks, but the vocal sound is a bit off. Osaka Kempeitai has good sound and the vocals are way better. I enjoyed the latter more overall.

It is a much simpler listening than the previous opus. The duration is only 30-40 min. But I also like the previous one although it is a double CD. On vinyl on the other hand maybe less.. But I probably like the new one more, need more listening to be sure, and it feel more "brutal".

Anyways, this album is faithful to G.O; dark atmosphere, we find also many elements that made the success of this group.. This rules!

The only thing, i have the cd version, and apart from the titles there is no booklet or additional description.
Maybe there are more things in the LP version, which was the case with some other opuses.

LP has one 12" sheet with the track titles on one side and a quote on the other and a small numbered card.

Really enjoy the operations with contempt. Some powerful ear-piercing tracks like "Captagon army" and IDF. Classic GO atmosphere, still the greatest to ever do it. That flex saw synth sound will never grow old to me. Samples do not feel as cheap or overdone this time, which was my only gripe with Death Zones.

The live LP is decent, though the post production isn't as good as on KwaZulu-NaTal or Remember. At least it is not obviously just a "remaster" of a youtube video sound like on their Los Angeles "No one is coming" tape - that was quite disappointing. Though we get a decent WPF rehearsal recording at the end so that's something I suppose.

I think the album structure harks back to earlier stuff, being more varied and not so linear. Some good static brooding tracks in between, and a couple of nicely placed intense peaks with a more free approach and more happening ("Captagon Army" & "IDF"). Immediate and concise. I enjoy it a lot!

They did a really good job on the Osaka LP. It sounds and looks great, comes with a small insert. I was there and just really happy to have this document of an epic show.

Itching for the new material now. All the comments in here have me hyped. Regret not ordering a copy.

Haven't listened to the OWC lp yet but I personally found the Osaka lp to be painfully boring and mediocre sounding.
