RMSS and RESIDUAL CD's on Satatuhatta feel almost like... "american noise releases", hah. In particular, something like pacrec / helicopter. Not due sound or packaging, but because both of these are like 30+ min one track on CD. Of course its long enough to be full length, but still feels to me kind of "wiese thing to do", as opposed to a lot of noise CD's that tend to be 40-60 min things. I am certainly not opposed to half an hour noise CD's. Perhaps even opposite. Perhaps the sonic fireworks of former Residual 3" I was just listening, made me expect "more stuff", but I recall that was what he was also criticized of by some Finn noise heads? Putting too much into one release, kind of display of all the skills, instead of focusing on making solid noise release. This album indeed goes into that direction. There is A LOT happening with fast pace, in this 30+ min track, but it all happens in one sound spectrum. Fast paced harsh noise, but not jumping in cut-up. Most likely plenty of edits, but also sounding as if it could have been played in one session and published as is. Can be also listened here:

RMSS is even shorter, 31 mins, but theoretically it could have been divided into many songs. There are very drastic changes of mood and sounds through out the disc. From minimal organic drone humming into electronically treated field recordings, fragments of old dialogues, mixer feedback manipulations, quite crude textured clatter. Unlike the tapes, which I felt like were more textural studies. Great, but often minimal textures where you sort of sink in, this CD is actually very precise composition. Real album, so to say! Noisy, but not noisE. Excellent!

SKÄRGÅRD "Irtautuminen" tape
New tape from artist who so far focuses on acoustic metal junk stuff. It is very much in spirit of early The New Blockaders and also Finn TNB, hah. Good tape with taste of specific sounds of objects and not just smashing things up.

UND "Ylösnousemus" CD
Veteran of Finn noise, who did his first tape already back in 1991. In interview he mentions, first he made like 5 copies of that tape, and sold couple, and very quickly after that got invitation from MITB to do split 7". Of course he sold more copies over years, I got it back in 92 or 93. This new CD was originally stuff he uploaded to bandcamp but got offer from Finn punk label to put out real CD. And good, since this must be the best UND material so far and quite unusual! Doesn't fit directly into subgenre noise mentality, but kind of DIY home recording punk noise ethos of the 90's.

IRON STAR "ESOTERIC PSEUDOSCIENCE" tape
I got probably the last copy of this when meeting artists at gig and he had 2 remaining copies in his pocket. Not a new project, but sort of side thing of Atrophist with a bit new angle to do things. While I do like idea that your main work is diverse and flexible to do a lot of things, it is no surprise I not only accept, but consider side projects very good thing if one has enough ideas. In my own case, it would be pointless to churn out dozen Grunt releases every year, even if they would be all different and all perfectly justified to be released. Just don't feel like it. So spin off projects exists as ways to explore one side of Grunt a bit further, go into something very specific until eventually project ends and it's back as element of Grunt but not project of its own. As outsider, I can't really hear why Iron Star could not be "Atrophist", but as artistic process, I fully support that you do what inspires and feels coming out "naturally", perhaps without burden of history. In interview linked below, he does talk about conditions where project started and also how Atrophist is very wide ranging output. I like b-side more than the a-side. Especially in beginning a-side has kind of "drop outs" of sound, where volume changes abruptly, seems like connected to deeper bass sounds that "compress" it. Tape gets better over the time and function as small run side project tape release, it is good in that.

Neandertaal
Harsh noise. Has tapes out on Bent Window Records and Satatuhatta for example, but for me, the material published on his split with Sweden's Inhóspito is easily the best and most fierce material from the project so far: https://dyrkadodenrecords.bandcamp.com/album/inh-spito-neandertaal

Steel Romance
Industrial noise/ambient. Has done a couple of split tapes, and especially the split with Biofilmi was kind of "talk of the town" due to it coming in a solid steel case. Luckily it's worth noting for the sound side as well and not just for the packaging, heheh. The split mate Biofilmi is very nice rough, murky and suffocated noise as well. I think it treads a somewhat similar territory as Touch Starved but with extra dirt and without the melancholy, heh. Makes sense that those projects have done a split. The newer Steel Romance split was with Circle Of Shit, a more known project, and the tape was published on his label Rupu Tapes. Mr. COS is currently doing gigs under the name Sun Tearing as well.

NHV Beherit
Noise ambient. Not sure if this is meant to be a part of the discography of Beherit, a solo work by the main man NHV, or something else. Has made one self-published LP that can be heard on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vguV-IyWIGs

Unpitted Dates

Nikama
Harsh noise from the second member of the now-defunct Junta. Tahma
Rough rumbling noise. One tape on Satatuhatta and a couple more DIY ones floating around. Tapes and apparently gigs too have been just a few minutes each due to the small setup and straightforward style, but I have no issue with that as those have been some GOOD minutes. First tape can be heard on Satatuhatta bandcamp (https://satatuhatta.bandcamp.com/album/tahma) and Special Interests youtube channel has some live footage I think.

Heli Hartikainen
I came across this one while looking for infos about upcoming noise/experimental gigs. The Fuckings
More saxophone. To quote Rupu Tapes: "From fans of Hijokaidan". Trio featuring members of Haare, Can Can Heads and Mohel on drums, guitar, saxophone and effects. One project I was supposed to mention already while ago is VULVAL PAIN SOCIETY. There are couple releases, but let's say 2024 Vaginal Wizard release was more like distorted keyboard music, but now Oriflamme tape is actually good! There is still some of the glitch type quality in recording, but way more diverse sources in the sound collage and when dubbed on tape, it works even better:

And actually, same could be said about VIRUS EX MACHINA. Earlier CDR releases were hit & miss, but there was some actually good moments. Being material that is done with digital gear pretty much anyone would have in their pockets, it has grown better with new releases. Still home made CDR is only physical format.
