The Merzbox turns 25 on June 16th.

I think, in honour of this epic milestone, a relistening schedule is appropriate. A disc per day over 50 days? I'll propose a schedule soon, unless someone else comes up with one. Play along if you wish. Or don't.

The Summer Of Merzbox. Perhaps a new thread.

I am down for this!  A new thread would probably be a good idea too.

Dude! I should have added that YOU provided me with this idea. Credit is due!! (Or blame?) 😂

It's surprising to read so many people have had issues with the Merzbox CD holder damaging their CDs. I bought my copy second-hand in about 2010 and have listened to the whole box a couple times since then. I just started listening through it again last week, and am 4 CDs in. I've never had any issues with any of the discs. From memory, perhaps the playing surface of a few of them looks a bit strange, but there are no scratches, nothing is stuck to them, and all of the CDs play perfectly. At least this was the case last time I listened through the box, a couple years ago. I hope I'm not in for a nasty surprise this time!

I bought this at 18 in 2002, which I could ill afford, but it was thoroughly listened to. I seem to remember pretty mixed reviews back in the early 00s - Merz's early cassette experiments hadn't enjoyed their renaissance and encompass around 2/3 of the release, and much of the 'proper' 90s noise was outtakes and remixes, generally less good than the main release they were taken from. There was no denying the excellent LP reissues, though.
Anyway personally I love the early cassette experiments, weird and non-harsh as they may be. I'm pleased to see the becoming more appreciated too, judging my ludicrous vinyl boxset on VOD (which I'm not buying, these days I'd rather feed my family!)
