I think Verde should definitely be mentioned here. Not noise and not SICK connected though both me and Pentti/Umpio have been session members.

New Clay Figure tape was just released by Santos Productions. Get it because it's good. No noise and quite far from "traditional" SICK material.

There is interview in Special Interests #6 about Mika Taanila - director of "The Future is not what it used to be"! Worth to check out. Also his own project musiikkivyöry

Musiikkivyöry is currently on discount in Levykauppa X, definitely worth getting. http://www.levykauppax.fi/artist/musiikkivyory/tulemme_sokeiksi/

This cd has growed on me recently, I didn't like it so much on the first spins, but now this playful and primitive lo-fi noise is just pleasure to my ears. I think that by their use of sound and atmosphere, maybe some tracks could be considered as first finnish works of power electronics?

LauLau

Should be Lau Nau of course. Nevertheless, her records are totally sublime. Definitely my favorite from the Finnish neo-hippie camp, although Islaja is nearly as good.

Why is it that the Some Place Else people (Ovro and Niko Skorpio) are never mentioned when talking about the Finnish experimental scenes? They seem to fall somewhere inbetween every one else (the SICK crowd, Aural Hypnox, KY/Avarus, Fonal, etc), operating in splendid isolation with no interaction. Even though their musics are a wee bit derivative, it's not that bad in my opinion.

I don't know exact reason, but perhaps for very same reason why some of these bands on topic don't get mentioned? Different aesthetics, different music, different circles. The most I like old Niko Skorpio project ColdOnceTurningDust (see my 2nd hand list for the old 7" still in stock!). Since then he has made few so horrible releases it totally killed my interest.
Perhaps the lap-top gigs dressed in funny costumes is what generally is big divider in audience. Also that I don't think vast majority of his works has been "noise" or "noisy" even. More just... electro music or some sort of.. ehm.. lap-top techno?
Still one can't deny his presence, with bands, label and at some point also mini shop/venue etc.

Ovro

Ovro gig warming up Sol Invictus couple weeks ago was pretty good. Not exceptional, but based on expectations, much much better than I thought! Niko with lap-top and Ovro herself doing vocals, little bit of bass noises and some performance. I personally usually don't like the electronic beats. There was a lot of that. Plenty of potential on female voice and all that, but if just backgrounds would be more organic and physical. Not the techno beats..

great thread, lots of stuff new to me ... keuhkot (don't understand the lyrics but sounds are amazing), verde ... any clay figure samples online?

already a big fan of the ky/avarus brigade, particularly tomutonttu, kemialliset ystavat, kuupuu, lau nau, islaja. any views on the hertta lussu assa lp from last year (the one released by de stijl)? i haven't gotten a chance to pick it up yet

most people probably know these compilations already but anyway ...

Arktinen Hysteria: Suomi-Avantgarden Esipuutarhureita
More Arctic Hysteria / Son Of Arctic Hysteria: The Later Years Of Early Finnish Avant-Garde

i've only got the first one. haven't listened to it in a long while but remember there being a lot of great stuff on there

I must "selfishly" remind about my more obscure/experimental label TotuudenSarviLevyt. TSL only has made 2 releases, but already talked sometime before, Armon Kuilu:

And just today out

Disorder of Deadeight's Depthsounder is now officially released on CD! Entire material can be heard for free on their bandcamp site:
disorderofdeadeight.bandcamp.com/

I have yet to list it on catalogue, since still trying to figure out what exactly should be said about this material. Project has created wide variety of different material, which none really gives accurate hints about what this particular album is about. Band existed for many years, but perhaps the other bands the main men has been involved are better known. Mr. Nurminen played several years in Fleshpress during "Pillars" era. Now also known from Tripolar improv. unit.  Mr. Talvemäki also featured as sessio musician in Fleshpress "Pillars" era, also known as drummer of Sink and Jumalhämärä.

Progressive instrumental music with most of all acoustic instruments. Only electric guitar and analogue synth is present. Epic and massive tracks.
