Strength of SHIFT has been that while having several of qualities that makes the sound of project, none of the releases are the same. Each album is very different from previous. One can approach them in a way of seeing progress -which there is- but also simply acknowledging merely that they are different. For specific listening, one may want to take older album, even if newer works are certainly more advanced. I don't think one needs to really compare Abandon and Bulk, in terms of which is "better", since they are so different.
Personal favorites remain, from older works SLEEP PARALYSIS seemed to take big leap forward and therefore made long lasting impact even if Shift has progressed further. ALTAMONT RISING, is quite unbeatable in its negativity and malicious spitefulness. But also compositionally and in terms of fine detail of the fuzz and tone. And finally ABANDON, in my ears was good conclusion of this specific approach of musical qualities and "conceptual sounds".
I am quite curious what would be next!? Of course there are smaller releases, where leap to new approach is not so drastic, but I am curious what could be the approach of next full length album?
