I'm a fan. I've owned most of their work & may still have:

I learned of their existence in an issue of Forced Exposure magazine.

forced exposure mag ruled in the day, especially in uk.
tripping yarns and fourth dimension being shining stars in this respect.
that I can't remember stan setrich's follow up band speaks volumes.
drunks with

Neons Fanzine

Them and No Trend were top notch weird hardcore punk bands at the time. I personnally tend to prefer No Trend for its pure hateful and antisocial attitude, as well as their sound which was constantly evolving. From the nihilistic first album to the one with Lydia Lunch to the fucked up new wave one...

There was a band in Denver called Frantix that had noisy crazy tunes like that too

The only record I own from Drunks With Guns happens to be the one with the teenage girl vocalist. Funny idea but I just cannot stand her 'singing'.
In the early 90's when the singer-guitarist left, he started a new Drunks With Guns - the old one still operating, so for a couple of years there were two bands operating under same name. How convenient.

There was a record shop in Huddersfield (UK) in the 90's that had about five copies of the first album on Chopper recs. They also had copies of the Anti-Seen album on the same label (Honor among thieves?) which is another good un. Wish I'd bought the lot.

Early Drunks stuff is great. Quite like the first load of re-recorded stuff (LP on French label?) But all the later 7's when there where two Drunks... No ta.

I've got a single, somewhere, by the singers (later) band 'Bullets for Pussy' - I'll have to dig it out, I remember it being not bad.

Other post Drunk bands worth checking : Fruitcake (psyche/weird/pop?) and Strangulated Beatoffs (weird/weird/stupid/disco/sludge)

Drunks always get dropped into the 'noise rock' thing... which... I dunno. Yes and no. There's nothing artful about them. It's semi inept outsider dirge made by young uns wired on cheap beer and glue. It's not the Jesus Lizard or Helmet!!!

aububs

i always equate them with brainbombs in my head. similar circular dirge riffs but drunks are more downtuned and probably grottier and don't have a saxophone ruining the party.

reckon i prefer them to brainbombs.

they're an absolute top tier band.

strangulated beatoffs are fun but i hardly ever pull them out of the stacks. drunks get played a lot.

Neons Fanzine

Oh come on the saxophone in the brainbombs is awesome! It adds to the weird vibe cause he doesnt know how to play it and is totally out of tune
the song "drive around" wouldn't be the same without it!

But i see the smiliarities between the two bands as well. Hypnotic repetitive riffs mostly

I think the only think that worth a listen concerning Drunk With Guns are the 7'' from "Drunks With Guns" in 85 to "Drug Problems" in 89
The best in my opinion is "Alter Human Industrial Fetishisms"; The tracks "Zombie" and the brutal "Enemy" are classics

impulse manslaughter

I'm not a huge fan but gathered a few of their 7"s over the years. Just listened to Alter Human Industrial Fetishisms to fresh up my mind. Also have that 7" with a child singing and Dragon Razors of the other Drunks With Guns. Actually, i never knew there were 2 bands..
