thought about including this to playlist, but why not own topic?
Jazzkammer did something what few have tried. Monthly CD series in 2010?! Aube failed pretty badly with the monthly series. Even if I have yet to go through all the discs, I feel Jazzkammer may have learned how to make it work.
It seems like every disc, even if being the same high quality one panel digipak, it has different visual artist / style of images as well as different approach to music. Even if I may have been loud spokesman about decreasing the output of projects, Jazzkammer has the advantage of being such a multi faced project, this series seems like perfect match with band. They don't have to offer one well thought album, but can present even merely less than 30 minute piece or series of tracks, what makes a good release.

I'm just now blasting "The Monroe Doctrine" CD, and I recall talking with some Finns about why there is lack of Hijokaidan type of free form instrumental noise distorder, THIS cd is what I recommend to all of you. One could say that at lowest it offers serious competition of what Hijokaidan does, but PERHAPS, I underline, perhaps, it even beats the japs! Only lacking is the female voice on top.
Earlier today was going through "Peanuts" CD, which is totally opposite of peanuts. Photos which could be something that appears in oh so clever VICE magazine, and line up with Hegre, Marhaug and Dronen doing 7 songs of "stuff". Meaning something obscure, silent, electro-acoustic type and field recordings mixed with percussion and turntables. It's quiet enough that you need to crank up the volume, but then some tasty volume differences and (if your speakers allow) ultra deep bass rumbles get the justice.

Jazzkammer is something, that I have never heard a disappointing release, yet I have never intentionally hunted down. Perhaps its the diversity of sound and visuals what makes it hard to really "get" the band, but at the same time it is the strength. I'm interested in any recommendations to see if missing any essential material. Although still several discs of these Pica series to go through!

Try "Metal Music Machine". Did nothing for me. Well, the first track was good once it got built up but the rest was just some kind of piss-take.

And should mention "peanuts" cd was Jazzkammer and "the monroe doctrine" was Jazkamer. I guess the shorter name stands for noisier? Another Jazkamer disc "July Jazkamer" is 20 minutes noise atrocity. One could say it's somewhere between the noisecore and free noise chaos. Cover mentions there is 129 songs, yet it's about as clear as listening to Aunt Mary. This brings to my mind perhaps most Gerogerigegege's "Instrument Disorder". It is good for a start, but even 20 minutes seems little too much to style what it is. One session, extends too long. This is why noisecore 7"s ruled.
I think the sound is more of free music improv sound. It's noisy, perhaps recorded with one mic or something, in middle of set. It's not like regular "core" bands with close-up mics to each instrument.

I'm really fond of the pair of 3" CD's released by Norway's Ohm Records, New Water and Sound Of Music, recorded live in Singapore and Tokyo, respectively. Particulary the latter, which is one of my favorite noise recordings ever. Well, not pure noise by any means, but noise the way I prefer it... dynamic... partly harsh and abrasive, partly brittle and almost melodic. Perfect length too, 20 minutes... which is enough to maintain interest throughout. Very recommended, if you haven't heard it.

Yes, I have it and always considered it very good recording. Would recommend it for those who have any doubts.

"Musica Non Grata" CD, 3 tracks of feedback drone. I recall few weeks ago I thought I should re-visit some Archane Device CD I always thought was little lame compared to my expectation on pure feedback drone. As idea, I always considered project good, but still, with maybe 5-10 years given time, that A.D. cd just couldn't deliver what I wanted. "Musica Non Grata" does. In a way, it is simple. It's just ... 3 layers of disturbing feedback. Somehow relaxing, but at the same time noisy and difficult. Maybe 3rd track with some metallic scraping noises, its best? Hard to say.

Recently listened 4 of the 12 2010 Pica Disc monthly series. And there has been something good, something not so good. Stand out discs was for example Jazkamer "Solitary Nail" CD. Half an hour of crisp and intense harsh noise. Absolutely zero new things, but in context of harsh noise one will appreciate the sheer power and brutality. Not achieved by any gimmicks, but just instense blasting of strong distorted noise.

Jazkamer "We Want Epic Drama" CD
on the other hand, is 70+ mins, what at the best is such an intense old school free noise racket. 3 guys on guitars, one electronics, 2 guys on drums. Not sure if at the same time, or most likely one after another. And then just: MAKE THE NOISE. Think of Hijokaidan and such. Close to their full band line-up chaos, but not so thin and fierce sound like it was in 80's and early 90's. Closer to what they have done in 2000's, especially in mixing desc live recordings. Also in this recording Jazkamer is noisy - in category of chaos. Not in category of ultra distorted ripping sound. For example drum-set sound surprisingly clear and heavy. Not overdriven clatter. In the latter part of disc, drums are not in, and vastly more electronic approach. More like Hijokaidan as Mikawa/Jojo duo era. Dirty guitar noise and broken electronic rawness. While some of the Hijokaidan latest stuff, especially the collaborations, has been a bit so-so, anyone missing pure energy, then this disc is certainly worth purchase!

holy ghost

The cover of "Musica Non Grata" has to be one of my favorite album covers. I love that image. Ofbrgat series I have the noisecore one which I think is fantastic, Musica Non Grata which is great, We Want Epic Drama which I really like. I have a few others in the series but those are the stand outs. I have Peanuts and Monroe Doctrine in my list of things to pick up but after hearing the Hijokaidan comparison I should really make the effort.

Threads like this really make me miss Mimaroglu Music and their website. Probably the least user friendly in terms of navigation bit so wonderful for reading descriptions and ordering random shit. Plus their wonderful use of italics was always a treat.

While we're talking about Pica Disc the box sets they released were a fantastic treat. I have the Kevin Drumm, Government Alpha, Incapacitants sets they did. All great.

Good reminder I need to order those Borbetomagus CDs from them.
