Blood Rhythms is a project headed by Arvo Zylo that was officially inaugurated in December 2010, with a live performance featuring the entire (legendary avant-industrial/gospel) band, ONO. Prior to that, Zylo had been active in some form since 2000, with several precocious live group performances, including a "brass ensemble" meant to sneak drone and noise into otherwise more accessible outlets. The brass ensemble sometimes opened for semi-popular rock bands, as well as established brass bands such as Black Bear Combo, Environmental Encroachment, and the venerable 100 piece marching band, Mucca Pazza.
As an ensemble, the group gradually grew to incorporate junk metal, synthesizers, guitars, and tape manipulation, and Blood Rhythms officially branched off as a collaborative moniker for Zylo in 2010 (after starting live group work mainly in 2007), having released a number of full-length tapes and pro-CDRs, as well as two LPs: 2015's "Assembly", was comprised of Zylo's manipulations of wind and horns recorded in a meat locker. 2019's "Civil War", is a studio/group recording of Zylo's live "weirdo power electronics" material from 2010 to 2016. These recordings feature contributions from Bruce Lamont (Yakuza, Corrections House, Bloodiest), dave phillips (Schimpfluch Gruppe), Daniel Burke (Illusion of Safety), and more.
This two-tape set features unreleased or scarce material from the last ten years. There is an edit of Blood Rhythms' first live recording with ONO. There's also a 24-minute track from an out-of-print split cassette with T.O.M.B. on Locrian's Land Of Decay label, and unreleased/scarce collaborations with Wyatt Howland (Skin Graft), plus a couple of contributions from EVP sound artist Michael Esposito, guitar from Mark Shippy, an alternate version of a side-long piece taken from a Banned Productions cassette split with Le Scrambled Debutante, and more.
The art/concept, by Arvo Zylo, is from a manually burned collage of old photos. Special editions include a full-size print of the collage, mounted to a uniquely designed art piece that uses the two cassettes to function as a proper wall-mount, with each copy manually burned with the word "Gone". Many thanks to Oxidation for helping realize this idea!
