Artax Film is a Swedish film production company known primarily for documentaries and music videos. Its latest feature film was the critically acclaimed Adam the Apostate (2020) which depicts the life of Nergal: frontman of Behemoth, Poland's biggest musical export. Artax can now unveil its latest major project.

Soul in Flames: The Adversarial Fires of Cold Meat Industry is a feature documentary chronicling the rise and fall of a legendary Swedish underground label. The film is told from the perspective of CMI's enigmatic founder – Roger Karmanik, the eternal antagonist – and the artists whose achievements across multiple music scenes still, decades later, garner worldwide interest.

The groundwork has all been laid: research, interviews, and filming. Buried deep within this mountain of material waits an epic tale that will captivate an audience ranging from lifelong Cold Meat fanatics to anyone with a casual interest in music or human ingenuity. Bringing it to fruition will require colossal resources, so the film's scope and depth are entirely dependent on the financial means available.

From the looks of it, this film has now been funded?  I wish I had seen this sooner, I would I have tried to get a disc.

The last update on the project sadly suggests otherwise:

A quick update from the studio.
Last week, I held the final approval screening of the edit, and I'm delighted to announce that the edit is now locked, and we are ready to enter the post-production phase.

I want to express my gratitude to Roger, Lina and Mikael for generously providing me with a wealth of photos that were crucial in shaping the narrative of this story. If you have any photos or footage yourself that you think could contribute, now is the time to let me know!

Regrettably, I must end on a less positive note. A few weeks ago, we received news from one of the funders we had high hopes for. Unfortunately, they opted for a different path, leaving us without the necessary funds for post-production.

If you have any ideas on how we can gather funds, please share them with us. Your input is invaluable.

Thank you for your ongoing support and patience.

I have no idea what it costs to make a documentary but looking at the money raised so far, and the money still needed, it does seem a lot.

Would a book full of rare photos and information, interviews etc etc... not have been just as good, and cheaper?

It sounds like the project has come a long ways, though, so hopefully it won't just be abandoned if funding cannot be found.  There can be room for personal/passion projects---even in film!

It's also surprising that they wouldn't just run a second cycle of crowdfunding, since the first one seemed to be successful.
