Frans de Waard - America's greatest noise (+flexi-bookmark)The forthcoming book from Korm Plastics eschews the typical trappings of artist photographs, record release lists, album cover images, and footnotes. It's neither a hardcover nor printed on glossy paper, and it's not expensive. Titled 'America's Greatest Noise,' this book delves into the story of Ron Lessard, the owner of RRRecords—a record store in Lowell, Massachusetts, that also operated as a record label from 1986 to 2009. RRRecords released albums from artists like Blackhouse, F/i, PGR, the first Merzbow LP outside Japan, and many others. T. Another worth mentioning is the RRRecycled Music series, featuring over 300 releases on re-purposed cassettes.
Lessard himself performed with his group Due Process and solo as Emil Beaulieau, giving numerous concerts and releasing various cassettes, LPs, and CDs until his retirement from the noise scene in 2006. His performances, marked by a businessman persona and a unique four-armed turntable called the Minutoli, were known for their comedic flair.
In this book, Lessard recounts his musical journey, sharing the ups and downs of running a label and record store, undertaking quirky projects, dealing with unfinished ventures, meeting other musicians, touring, and more. The book includes two appendices: one featuring past interviews from fanzines and websites, and another with a chapter from Michael Tau's 'Extreme Music' on the anti-records released by RRRecords.
The first 1000 copies include an anti-flexi—created by cutting up a conversation between Ron Lessard and the book's author, Frans de Waard, about anti-records—edited by Howard Stelzer. This flexi can be used as a bookmark.
The book is a 144-page paperback with black and white images, designed by Alfred Boland.
