Agreed (except almost never in my case).  It usually pushes me back to listening to Silver Apples or something like Roedelius or Clock DVA.

That first Gary Numan album, The Pleasure Principle, had a thick, heavy, dare-say "brutal" synth sound.  The riffs on that thing are huge.  Having said that, I reckon Tubeway Army might be of interest.

I only buy vinyl, d00ds.

Galakthorro fans should enjoy KHK Tapes' releases; same bleak "angst pop" focus: http://khk.hu/ / http://www.youtube.com/user/khktapes. Late-period Le Syndicat Electronique/Invasion Planete stuff is great too.

Maybe mentioned before but there's a new November Növelet 7" coming out on Galakthorro soon.

Also I did make it to the Crash Course in Science gig and it was interesting. As it so often happens, musicians who were best pre-digital technology suffer the worse in the digital age. The show was in an art gallery, inside the 3rd floor of a converted warehouse. It must have been 100 degrees and my friend and I were pouring sweat the whole time. CCiS didn't start till midnight and by that time the room had become an oven. 3 songs the bands laptop, which was producing most of the sound overheated. They started again 10 minutes later, it overheated again. Finally the staff brought up huge fans to place on the table. But I couldn't help but laugh. All the old gear played fine but the Macbook couldn't take the heat. A lot of the sounds done digitally sounded like shit, but all together it still worked. They also had some older chick in this goth-y mini-skirt/glowstick mess of an outfit that was about 20 years too young for her. She did some digital drum kit shit, vocals and danced in a ridiculous fashion. The whole thing was really a fucking mess, but the energy and enthusiasm made it all worthwhile. Glad I went.
