I just bought a supposedly mint copy of Merzbow's Project Frequency LP for $90 including postage. This is by far the most I've ever paid for a single release. A few years ago I couldn't have imagined spending this much on a single item, but times and circumstances change... Also, as mentioned before, it's interesting to put this in perspective. Just today I took a taxi to the airport and it cost me the same amount. So while the amount in itself does seem frightening, I don't think about it :)... And I can see myself paying similar sums again for a select few items in the future. I'll probably start with the first two Operation Cleansweep LPs (the second one almost seems downright cheap compared to the first!).

Picked up first pressing of Merciless "The Awakening" LP for 40$ some years ago, and Sarcófago "INRI" first press for 35$ around the same time. Both in great condition. Not insane bargains really, but the climate for this stuff was just as ridicilous then as it is nowadays.
Haven't made any real bargains since. On the other hand, alot of new stuff one buys gets sold out shortly after it's released, and all of a sudden the same stuff is sold on discogs for twice (or even three times) the initial price. Sure, I sometimes understand why people pay these amounts, but it fuels the whole circus. Paying 30 to 40$ for an early Vanilla Recs tape, I get that. But 30 to 40 bucks for some tape on Posh Isolation released three months ago?

I recently paid $110 for a like-new copy of Andrew Chalk's "Violin by Night" LP on Faraway Press. I think that's my new record price for one release, and believe me, it gave me pause. I can't see myself doing that again any time soon.

I remember paying $100 collectively for the first three Borebetomagus LPs back in probably 1999, which was an inconceivably high number at the time. Now, it seems like a bargain. Not longer after, the universe rewarded me for taking that plunge by turning up a copy of "Snuff Jazz" for $5.
