BIZARRE UPROAR delivered solid set. Moderate changes to his previous gigs, but I think sound of gig being most of all loud screeching guitar combo action, it gave different feel to songs compared some recent Helsinki assaults for example. Solo gig.
SSRI reminded me somehow about Incapacitants or kind of "old noise". Not much gimmicks or any kind, but two guys with couple of pedals, ripping screeching and high pitched noise. Some yelling. Free form straight forward blasting, but never being "wall noise", blurry heavy stuff or involve any fast "editing" type of moments. Just free flowing painful noise. I like.
GRUNT set was all new album material, never played before. Never even rehearsed together before soundcheck. Technically tested new ways of creating live sound, and while it was all theoretical until soundcheck, then it was proven to be possible... Less about two separate guys doing sound, more about eachothers sound bleeding together by connecting mixers back and forth. More spontaneous and hazardous sound. I'm curious to hear how it will turn out to be with bigger PA. Should remain dirty and fierce. London next.
STAB ELECTRONICS was easily best set what I have seen from him. Not seen many, but out of those this is my favorite. Simple structure of tracks usually involve: Heavy and solid throbbing synth background. Phaser warped vocals yelling on top. Additional live synth noise and feedback added in. Most songs rely on one synth loop what goes on entire track. It gives each track its recognizeable form, as does the lyrics what STAB yells clearly. But also makes songs very linear. With stage filled with loud amplifier noise, everything blended together very very nicely and also added nice level of rawness to overall sound. It's like difference you listen on STAB old CDR's vs. tape versions of F&V. Same material, but the raw and rugged just penetrates harder, without mercy. Good video screening and stage presence, interacting with both video projection and audience!
Very nice evening with solid sets, fast schedule, no technical problems.. well, beyond one broken amp that happened during soundchecks?! If venue approves more noise shows, this would appear to be place to do some in Turku.
