Bill Henson is an OG of both Minneapolis and international noise, playing in the duo JUHYO with Brian Kopish, running Housepig records, and working closely with artists like BASTARD NOISE, NAMANAX, AUBE, and more. He operates with an ethos that blends pragmatic professionalism with a DIY punk spirit. He also documents live Minneapolis noise extensively for his YouTube channel, and is working on a long-form documentary about the Minneapolis scene.

Interesting video, as I reside in MN as well, interesting especially in recent concerns of ICE presence in Minneapolis and St. Paul. I don't live in Minneapolis, but close enough to it and it's been chaos to say the least from what some of those I know who are ground zero in the thick of it. One thing I find fascinating is this sense of liberal tribalism to the point it seems to not make a lot sense in some ways. I work with many Hispanic people and their visa status... who the hell knows, one thing for certain is that it sounds like the current administration rolled back the former administrations visa time allowance and pretty much said that those visas are no longer valid starting now, which is a bit dirty! A lot of the Hispanic folk are hiding in fear for this reason, however despite all of this, NONE of the Hispanic folks I personally know would be on the sides of the left leaning protesters out there in Minneapolis, as their politics and values do not align at all. I'm speaking from my own experience with those people I know and have known for years. I don't know a single one that thinks open borders are a good thing for America, as matter a fact they are all in favor of Trump, if you can believe that or not! I know a lot more Hispanics in favor of Trump than I do white Minnesotan type, but they obviously don't like what's happening now with the roll back of the visas out of nowhere, but that doesn't automatically put them in a category with the some of left leaning gentrifiers of Minneapolis, who are on some self serving crusade to post their grandstandings via social media for some self serving gratitude. I think it would be more proactive for those people to put down their whistles and go bring groceries to their Hispanic neighbors who are scared to leave the house and obviously I'm not talking about everybody down there, because that wouldn't be fair to say and perhaps the protesters in some ways are in the right to some degree to speak on ICE being out of line, as some of their force has been a bit on the harsh side. I think there is way too much tribalism in Minnesota's left leaning type and I think it's wild when people seem to think by seeking this social justice activism is somehow "punk". I tend to think as punk as being more so anti establishment, not one who stands to replace one establishment for a another socialist type of one, that's backed by big woke corporate ideologies, Hollywood celebrities virtue signaling ect., which seems precisely what some of the more radical protesters are advocating for from what I've gathered. Not all of them though, It's a very confusing and a very divise of era we are living in at the moment and a moment where this type of tribalism needs to fade and critical thinking needs to begin, because both parties do NOT give a shit about any of us. I think their are some truths mixed in on both sides of this argument, but it's so buried under a shroud of lies and deceit that we'll never know any of the real truths. One thing that's a bit disturbing, is that if ICE keeps making these arresting mistakes and deporting people whom are actual citizens, who are in good standings, that could give the government the idea... perhaps we need digital ID, then we can never make this mistake ever again and there leads to the end!
It's very obvious that US needs Hispanics to help in the labor shortages and certainly there should be some sort of fast pass system to let those specific labor force immigrants into the country easier, rather than this open your borders to anyone and everyone. These same individuals have told me on many occasions that there are some really dangerous bad criminal type of individuals here too! I think all to often in Minnesota you got these out of touch individuals who can only think one certain way who fail to understand that their liberal views have gotten so out of touch with reality to the point they make no sense. That's my two cents on the matter!

Interesting discussion is the label stuff and also MITB. It is almost amusing how MITB created so much almost fanatic following. I must have mentioned that in late 90's, there was really.. I think 4 local guys who took MITB related tattoo. Some took the full CAPS ON Man is the bastard text, one had FREAK ANIMAL tattooed on his neck. Which is indeed reference for the MITB lyric, not the Finn noise label.  Lyrics goes like "man, the freak animal, never stopped to think what the fuck his done". At that time, MITB was almost mythical project. Those who know project more as Eric Wood at the social media -type of thing, might not see the project in same way.

I don't know how it is elsewhere, but over here, we are dominated by english language sources. Countries that are way nearer and even phenomena of severe importance, stays completely overshadowed by something pretty ridiculous. And it feels like... okay, so man dies in incident and how many years we should mourn it? I understand it in case where people feel it is close to them, but it sentimentality on the subject seems like symptom of american imperialism really. You look the obsession with epstein files and shit like that and it's like... substitute for watching reality TV, isn't it?

Yet, in this Housepig case, the positive is of course that despite there may not be utterly direct connection of noise & topic of discussion, it is there nevertheless. Man clearly has been involved in underground art that has the spirit that leads into this type of thing. Meaning sort on punk-esque activism. And putting things in a bit larger perspective.

My criticism mainly is, that when there is so little of noise information and great noise stories, it is slightly annoying if THE MOST talked subject that takes pretty much all the air you breath, does it also here. Luckily when they get over it, the rest of episode gives you great and pretty funny Namanax story, Bastard Noise/MITB, touches the logistics of DIY distro, selling at gigs, putting out CD's. Releases that had impact, plus also talking about how physical items do not mean so much anymore and why so.

Despite seemingly critical, I think this was in fact very good episode!

Plus also, the talk about the video editing or website things, mr. Housepig underlining how the best tools are the ones that get things done, is absolutely true. We often get advices what is the BEST tool, be it hardware or software. Sometimes very good, sometimes just have to say, I just do not get into this. I know theoretical benefits, but pragmatic downfall is that it will prevent album from happening at all, hah..
