There was some good reasons for pre-orders when it was about vinyl records. It can be so big amount of money to invest that small label doesn't have the resources. So whatever ever means necessary to be able to publish something. Sometimes it is also good for estimate. What kind of demand is there for record. However, it feels weird that everything would be now up for pre-order and biggest labels doing it too. Even crowdfunding.
It seems that it actually created situation that many people are confused when release is simply released without long hype or pre-announcements.
Almost every release I make, I have people asking when it is out, when it is shipping, etc. distributors asking when is the street date or whatever.
Many times saying that they never heard something like this he's coming out. And I just say yes you heard about it now you can order it now I am shipping instantly. Street date, release date, whatever, is music biz thing, I just put out releases and ship them out.
