Figured it would be time to do a official topic for the podcast, updates will be posted here from now on.

NOISECAST is a podcast about noise and noise culture, started out few years back as Finnish only podcast, but has shifted to english content starting from 2026. Occasional Finnish content might still appear, if person who is interviewed preffers so, for example. New episodes come irregulary regulary, no release schedule set in stone, but longer periods of silence are avoided. Relase platforms are Youtube and Spotify.

Noisecast also is always looking for new people to join the crew, if you have interesting live report, interview or such please be in contact here or via email; noisecast666@gmail.com

Latest episode #28

Episode 28 takes us back to February in Lahti, where Viimaa & Villasukkia event took place once again. It's been a several year tradition, and once again this year line up did not disappoint. Noisecast delivers a report from the event. Also few new'ish noise tapes are under the scope which are;

Kneel - In Sickness and Hate
Monocyclocybercilia - Lyserkinesis
Fišnarka - Lysohalvien Radio

Hakaristi

Good one! Gotta pick up that Kneel tape, sounds like a solid addition to the legacy of Finnish filthnoise.

Also very much enjoyed the Grunt interview. Great to gain some insight into the more recent works, have been revisiting each album with fresh ears. And a treat to see the original album artworks up close. Due to cultural ignorance had no idea the Man Without Heart logo is a war memorial sculpture, was always curious about its origin.

EPISODE #29

Noisecast went to Turku to check out Dead Door Unit while he was on European tour. On the same bill was also Tryptich, Invagination, Jazzhand and Rautakymi, so needless to stay the night was stacked. Here you hear a collective of gentlemen discussing the evening in the night of Turku. Discussion also wanders off to talk about rehearsing live noise to pondering what wool sock noise actually is?

Decent episode! Perhaps a bit nerdy correction, but there indeed was also synth in DDU live. Baby blue synth by Jessica Rylan. It creates unpredictable and broken sounding things. Invagination indeed had little obstacles with mute/solo buttons in the beginning, but surprising amount of bass feedback. Curious thing was that I instructed that monitors should be fairly quiet so there is no excessive feedback, and next thing is that like the report says, monitors are moving on the floor due bass vibrations, hah!

Additional info & reports of this tour will be coming out on SI website sometime soon!

Had it not been for those monitors, there would have been no helmet.

Technical difficulties provide a win in the end.

EPISODE #30

Dead Door Unit interview, first part. DDU was touring in Europe in April, so of course we set up an interview with him. So Mikko A. and Jazzhand sat down with the man and had an interesting deep discussion about things of noise. First part of the interview revolves around how Europe tour came together, early influences of DDU, playing live in US and also many aspects and variations of playing live noise.

As usual; Youtube & Spotify.

EPISODE #31

Second part of Dead Door Unit interview! This time focus shifts more on talk about noise culture as a whole. Talks revolve around writing noise and noise reviews, deep listening and experiencing noise music in that regard. Interesting topic that arises is, what defines a classic, what are aspects of a timeless release? What are the motivations or intentions of pure noise? Also a conversation about the "language of noise", what is t even is? Who defined what or who are the most influential ones? How does surroundings of an individual influence their noise? Mikko A conducting the interview with Jazzhand.

Aside of some warm beer burps getting a bit too intimate with my ears: great interview! The lack of reviews and, to some extent, enthusiastic discussion about specific noise projects and releases that go beyond "this kicks ass" or such is such a pet peeve of mine that I was especially happy about the topic of writing noise reviews. I do agree with what mr. FA brought up, that reviewing abstract music can feel a bit... can't remember how he described it, but some shade of dumb. The idea how you're trying to explain why some specific hum or krrrshhhbzzz is so much better than all the other seemingly similar things might make you feel like an idiot. But you've just got to get over it and write anyway, heh. DDU:s reviews and comments on tapes here are an important source of information of stuff that isn't really discussed elsewhere, at least not in public, so I hope he keeps it up. And the same goes for Noisecast itself of course!

Plenty of other interesting things were discussed as well, but no point listing everything. When someone is so invested in and enthusiastic about noise, something as simple as having bird spikes fall on you becomes a relevant part of discussing noise. I don't think I have listened to any DDU releases, but this interview certainly made me interested to check something out.

Better out than in!

And again — better out than in! Downstream from the noise reviews there are people making new discoveries of projects and releases. As for the initiated, to read a noise review may lead to the discovery of a new detail that may suddenly fascinate where before it lay hidden. My favorite reviews to read are fanatical and diaristic. Most of all I am hastened to listen to something from own library when I read a characterful review — to have my own inner experience.

Plan to keep reviews consistent (one will be posted after typing out this).  And the hope is always that someone walks away from reading these with the impulse to check out a new project or a tape they missed in some massive discography.
