"What Could Have Been" Noise?

While dwelling on the topic of artists that never released something after announcing it due to whatever circumstances, I really started to think of HOW these things could have sounded. A prime example being the TF/PE comp "Skin Flicks" that had a lineup of "Mania, Atrax Morgue, The Rita, Slogun, Morkermaennen, Moribund, Liver Mortis, Pleasure Fluids + Others"

What else can we think of? Any sort of "lost to time" releases?

The Steve Stapleton + John Balance sessions- a year or so after Balance's death, Stapleton revealed to Wire mag that the pair had worked on some kind of release circa the early '90s, though after several days of intensive work they decided that what they'd recorded was sub-par, so the tapes were erased.

Shame- the albums credited to Stapleton/Tibet and Stapleton/Wakeford from the same time period are excellent.

I know plenty of projects that were under work, and then just... didn't get finished. I have been part of various duo recordings, that managed to finish one or more tracks, but not enough to really become public. There are some songs in archives over the years. In Finnish perspective, one could ask what if HÄKKI would have managed to continue till full album? What if Eleczema didn't run out of steam and actually finished his full length with additional good tracks? (you can hear one killer track on new compilation HATEFUL BLISS that was part of the album that Freak Animal rejected).

This project has always had my interest, what I remember from certain comp tracks has been excellent work. Truly wonder what could have been...

Building off of the earlier mention of Coil, I wonder what they could have done had they been given the approval to do the actual score for Hellraiser---not just to hear what the full score could have been, but to see what Barker could have accomplished if he leaned more substantially into his subcultural side with the movie.

Anyone remember Dagda Mor website mentioning he was back and new material about to come? That I hope would have happened - if it was good!

I'm of the view that the 'idea' of Coil pulling off an amazing Hellraiser soundtrack is more interesting than the abilities of Coil to actually do so. Basically that myth has replaced the reality that Coil's conceptual sketches didn't cut it, and no manner of planned orchestration would have fixed it (the last comment also contextualised with their later output).
Whether Clive should have lent into subculture more is an interesting question - but based on Coil commentary most ideas were already sourced from Sleazy's fetish publication collection.

Something that has recent struck me is the interview that Egan Budd conducted for WCN with Joe Roemer.  In this interview, Joe talks about plans for a Macronympha LP on Hospital, Japan tour and more.  As we know now, none of this materialized, as the group fell apart pretty quickly after.  I would be curious if there is any leftover material of Joe and Rodger from that time.  I'm sure it has been used in some form between the two if so.

Was the LP "Melting Softly Into Time"? I think that's the last Macro release I can truly care for.

No, Rodger is not directly involved with that release, beyond assumedly being part of the lineup that recorded the initial source in 1997.  This was discussion of an entirely separate, newer LP that seems to have taken at least some root in recording, as evidenced by the Sex & Death 7" coming out before the group's implosion.  That lineup was Joe, Rodger and Dom.

Oh, interesting! I thought Stella was on that one...Damn, now you got me wondering too, Ken...

In very recent times, The Body/Terror Cell Unit collaboration was scrapped after TCU disbanded — and it sounds like the record was pretty much finished? Real shame.

A bit further back, I know Tom Smith of To Live and Shave in L.A. had a lot of plans and projects underway (some likely never moved beyond the idea stage, to be fair) and even some completed records (Blossoming Noise never released TLASILA's Épuration, for example), but he passed suddenly, R.I.P.
Apparently all his hard drives are in the hands of Aaron Dilloway now, not sure if anything will ever come of it.

Obviously England's Hidden Reverse was written with a pro-Coil slant, but I thought that it was the studio that rejected their proposed soundtrack in an effort to push the film in a more commercial direction?
