There was talk in the Finnish language topic of forum about exhibition that new harsh noise act BRYSKT had exhibition. For some links about this, there was advertizement about it in forum too, but also:

There was some talk about possibilities noise culture can manifest itself, besides bandcamp, youtube, gigs and physical releases. Of course there are all sorts of "workshops". You got sound art at the galleries. I'd assume there is more.

Google translate of my own message being:

QuoteAbsolutely interesting exhibition, but limited opportunities to travel due lack of time. That exhibition raised the question of, for example, the ways in which noise culture can manifest itself, other than a traditional gig or publication.

For example, I was at the noise cassette gallery exhibition in New York. A lot of self-published, self-dubbed, small-edition cassettes. For the guy in the field, the situation is at the same time that "this is what it is" but also: "this is what this is!"

It brings alongside the everyday experience, the idea that the cassette, which came at a certain moment in history, gave people the ability for different expression and (mass) production, which was previously the exclusive right of corporations and later turned into... something else.
In between there was a moment with a truly revolutionary expression that had no historical predecessor, and depending on one's opinion, maybe not even a successor?

Even though at that moment, with the eyes of a contemporary, I was looking at... those tapes in the display case seeing lots of mid 2000's new wave of USA noise etc... The curators maybe saw that moment, that something is happening that has never been, and will never be *like this* again. Which is true in a sense.

So in that sense, this release or device exhibition are interesting, even if you don't have time to attend. I immediately have the thought that we might be on the verge of a historic moment, even if it happens outside of records and gigs.

Considering the absolute boredom of many exhibitions of modern art museums, I would not be surprised if they'd gather exhibition of hand made physical noise objects, it would be partially "out of place", but work as almost junk sculpture.

Any experiences of being at noise-related exhibitions, or memorable "workshops" or something like that?
Also: What would you like to see happening?

As reply to myself, I would say that something such as was happening in LAFMS fest or Schimpfluch Gruppe related fest.. some sort of pre-gig activity, such as artists interview/discussion panel sort of thing would be nice. Of course, considering that there would be something... ehm.. interesting AND noise related. Not just some "popular topic in current times", unless, that is the noiseculture and art!

Perhaps if there would be two-day event, some sort of noise art exhibition to check out. I remember for example No Fun Fest where Thurston Moore had curated some sort of visual art by noise artists -exhibition into gallery. Better would be of course in the venue itself.

There's been several of these crossover type pf events in Gothenburg over the years. Kristian Olsson has exhibited his visual work at both Utmarken and at NEJD (which is a venue for a bunch of artists who all work in different mediums - sculpting, painting, sound, video, collage, installations etc - and of which a few are also recording noise/industrial artists). I think I have the color printed compendium made for the Utmarken exhibition somewhere.

NEJD had a brilliant exhibition a few years ago. Dan Johansson/Sewer Election for example had a room where his uncanny drawings were shakily video projected onto the walls while equally shaky reel tape compositions were playing. Simple but very effective and evocative stuff.

Another hard working local guy is Markus Samnell (Feberdröm, Mottled Legs, Khmer Noir and until recently part of the mentioned NEJD collective) who's seemingly always working on his next performance act, video work or visual exhibition where his industrial/noise/sound work often comes hand in hand.

There's also "the new guy" Incipientium. Not an exhibiting artist (yet), but he places just as much emphasis on his video work as he does on his actual music when he performs. Not just a slideshow of pics that fit the noise, but proper video works edited on analogue equipment, with each chapter corresponding with each part of his noise set. Very effective, I think.
