Listening to the AnB/Despise You split today. Despise You...even at half-mast, this band rips better HC/thrash than just about anybody. Death metal riffing is a little more evident on these songs, and the songs aren't just blazing one-minuters. Nevertheless, this is still some great HC. I should know this, but is the guitarist in another band, like Excruciating Terror? These songs definitely have a different vibe than the 90's band. I'm into it. No complaints. (the only band to have ever really done "Couch Slouch" any justice)

It's kind of weird that Agoraphobic Nosebleed is a band for split hire, or so it seems. Strange that they do these big splits and take on the personality of the other group on the split. They do a split with Despise You, and they alter their shit to sound in line with Despise You. Same goes for their split with Apartment 213, which I liked a lot. I haven't heard a couple of their other Relapse splits, so maybe this isn't their regular MO? Anyone else left with this impression? If I'm right, it's an odd role. Kind of interesting, too. The Relapse house band ready, and capable, of taking on whatever style ordered. (and they do a darn good Man is the Bastard, too)

A band I have not listened to in a long, long, long while. Their entire aesthetic now seems a bit too colorful for my taste.


                    While on the Despise You split, those are indeed some amazing songs on there. From DY alone. I feel like that should be made clear, the distinction between the material on one side and the other. Bands should chose to do splits with artists of a relatively similar caliber.

Lack Of Interest tracks from the Bastard Noise split are also really strong. I hope these bands can offer some new album length recordings with the same energy.

If you can't readily distinguish between the two, doesn't that indicate they are of similar caliber?  I think DxYx are superior, but I also think AnB holds their own well enough.

I just listened to this.  The LoI tracks are strange insofar as the vocals being heavily influenced by NYHC, and the music being busy in the realm of Converge, Jesuit, and the like.  I like the LoI tracks, but they're definitely a different animal than in the past.

This is accurate especially since 2008-2009 era. I dont even know if you can say ANb has a signature sound anymore. Every release, even their non split material, seems to change style regularly. I feel like they did the balls out cybergrind best, but theres some gold sprinkled through the past 7 years. I was actually quite fond of the more "song" oriented style of Agorapocalypse. Steve Hull knows how to write some strong riffs when he wants

been really enjoying VX Gas Attack - Political Subterfuge cassette from 2014. very fast paced d-beat/crust with dive bombing guitar solos. immediately made me think of Nailgunner's Apocalypse. Now or Never album, but with an undercurrent of Pacific Northwest punk sound. i just love that it's short, relentless and to the point. shit, this release could really be listed in the metal thread too.   https://vxgasattackpdx.bandcamp.com/

some of the members are also in the grind band Pleasure Cross who put out a solid and similarly relentless demo cassette in 2013. been re-listening to that one and i think it stands alone quite nicely.

an A- recording and powerful, smoking show. my expectations for sound quality weren't much, but it sounds really good. good mix. good levels. if it was somewhat normal for them to tape their shows, this makes me want to hear a lot more of them. HIGHLY recommended.

Great label out of Columbus, OH USA.  Providing mostly punk and hardcore of a particularly hateful variety, leaning often times towards the black metal end of the spectrum, if that even makes sense.  The occasional Goth/post-punk or industrial release pops up now and then too.

With checking out. The malphas, slave house, and vacuous tracks on the soundcloud are definite repeaters.
