RRR's Ron Lessard Talks Noise, Record Labels & Cowboy Music (2019)
I was 22 when I conducted that second interview. Maybe 23? I gotta pull it out of the archives to put back online at some point. While much of what was discussed has been covered in the Franz book, it is a fun read.
I'll always be grateful for the kindness and enthusiasm RRRon gave me when I first met him. From doing that interview, to a couple Recycled tapes and even just the hours spent talking shop about noise, he's always been a standup guy and I have been to RRR every year since 2019. One of our earliest conversations was about his total rejection of academia in relation to his noise. I think he said something to the effect of "if they're teaching me in a school, then something is seriously wrong!" Hah.
Although he's more than likely retired forever, I do like to believe he's making some sort of anonymous fuckery right underneath our noses to this day...
One release in PURE that no one seems to bring up is
Dedicated to Charlie Ward. For the life of me, I cannot understand why. I actually remember reading someone's thoughts that it was the WORST
Emil release, and that had me even more confused. It's an excellent one, for those who have not heard; RRRon masterfully fucking with Stomach Ache 7"s. Put it on recently and had a fun time with it. The closing track that uses the
William Bennett is My Dick release is one of my favorite endurance tests in all of noise.
