I like majority of what he has done. The fact that we still acknowledge his doings at this point - in good and bad - still is easy proof how he still has more to offer than huge amount of artists we'd never give a fuck.
I wasn't particularly enthusiastic about samples I heard of new album, but will give it a try at some point. I think previous collab with Z'EV wasn't too good.
Did read one of his collected writings (see "what you're reading" topic elsewhere) not so long ago and was at the same time entertained, but also realized to what place material falls.
With many of the underground high profile names, it appears that while in past they stood out strongly, radiating iconic qualities and innovations of pioneers... Often now they blend into mass, and not even to top cream, but somewhere barely average. Even if I don't really believe we can (or should) separate music from context, artists and his aura, at the same time it appears that for musical reasons, there are so much better things out there which simply aren't as interesting as "cultural phenomena" - but for sake of pure listening experience - would make necessity to check out "back to mono" quite unnecessary. I think the man is in his best element as example that one should do things and pursue own eccentric interests as far as possible.
